Thanks for the tip! I'm in a stall right now stuck at 169 pounds for over two weeks. I am going to try the liquid diet for 3 days and see if it helps me get back on track.

Thank you all for being so encouraging! You were right, it does get better. I posted at what was my lowest point, day 5 has been the turning point for me. I feel like I have energy again and I can do things. Though, I still need more sleep than usual. But this is a marked improvement over the first couple of days.
To everyone on the pre-op diet, stay strong, we'll make it to the surgery! Off to pack my hospital bag now!

    Hi everyone,
My surgery date is the 12th of January and I'm on the pre-op diet (broth, Protein drinks and jello) now. I'm struggling with it quite a bit though I have stuck to it so far and have not cheated. I'm feeling very hungry, tired and lethargic. I'm afraid that I will continue to feel this way after surgery and I'm very worried. Right now, I'm lucky because I have vacation days and I have taken time off but after recovery, I will have to go back to work and if I feel the way I am feeling now, after the surgery, I don't know what the quality of my work/life will be!
Those of you who have already had the sleeve, does it get better after surgery? Or am I deluding myself?

I had surgery on the same date as you. I still have some gas pain and I can feel it. But walking really helped me. I also think it's just a question of time, I can constantly hear my stomach rumbling. I hope that goes away!

I'm 19 yrs old and have been considering surgery since I was about 17 since I've dealt with obesity literally my whole life.
My surgery was Nov 18, 2014. I started at 298 and am now at 254! Only 7 weeks out of surgery but have seen a huge difference in how I look!
5 days preop I was probably around 295lbs.
    2.5 weeks was around 271lbs.
1 month post op I was stuck in a little stall at around 260.
It's so funny that I look in the mirror every day and always tell myself that I don't see any changes and feel upset and then I actually look at the pics I took right before surgery and how much I've changed. Literally puts me in tears!
Of course I'm still in progress, my goal is to be about 120, I'm hoping that happens! I'm really short, 5'1 so technically that's pushing almost still being overweight lol.
I can't wait to be a year out and look as great as all of you guys! Everyone here is such an inspiration ????

JP drains are used because cut things bleed. Whether a surgeon uses a drain or not varies, but I can assure you the bloody drainage happens whether a drain is there to collect it or not. I'd much rather have a drain to collect that Fluid instead of it just leaking into my peritoneal cavity.
The people who've had JP drains post VSG will tell you that A LOT of Fluid collects in them. Risking developing an abscess from that drainage is scarier than having the drain. I've had 4 JP drains before and they didn't bother me at all; not even when they were pulled out.

I had a Bloody Mary (my first drink since my surgery) and didn't even get buzzed It tasted good, but I was very disappointed, lol. I don't think it's even worth drinking the empty calories now, so I won't be drinking again until I least hit goal

I'm looking forward to being able to easily get on and off a horse. I love horse riding but have been embarrassed to do it because of this issue.

Wow! I can totally relate. I had the same exact feelings that you have with food. I was so scared to part with food. I mean it was always there when I needed it in the good times and the bad. I could go on and on. It was my best friend! I knew I wanted to get healthy but i didn't know if I could emotionally handle not having the food whenever and wherever I wanted it. I lost a lot of sleep over it.
I had my surgery in Mexico 6/27/12. From the start things moved very quickly. Since you don't have to jump through all the hoops that people w/ insurance do. So when I started the process it only took 2 weeks to have my surgery and that was because I had to do the pre-op diet to shrink my liver. The closer the surgery got the more nervous I got. There was no turning back.
Here I am 6 weeks out. I am so happy that I didn't let my so called "best friend" keep me from making one of the best decisions I've ever made.

    Confessions of a 'Scaredy Cat'
    1. I am terrified of having this surgery. Everything about it scares me to death.
    2. I am an extreme emetaphobe (fear of vomiting) and I am afraid this will send me over the edge.
    3. I can completely give up the food but I don't want to give up my stomach, its been good to me over the years and I feel a strange attachment to it. It seems unfair to punish my stomach for sins of my mouth...
    4. I hate the unknown...what if the new tummy doesn't like this or that? What if I can't drink Water again? (My favorite)
    5. I loathe the thought that someone might judge me...think I took the easy way out...give me less validation for my efforts.
    6. I am afraid that it could be a huge regret and I can't ever recover from. I will have to live with a new body part that I do not know or do not like.
    7. I realize this will not solve my problems. It could make things better, but I'm scared it will make things worse.
    8. It seemed like a good idea for a last ditch effort to save myself from myself.....but with this sheer terror, I may not be able to do this.
The lawyer in me HATES uncertainty....

I'm on it as well! I really try to stay busy. I plan my days down to the "T" so that my mind won't wander to food. Also -water. Drink plenty of it and it will put some of those cravings at bay. You can do it!

I'm on day 5 of pre-op, so we're all suffering together! I find that I feel fine during the day when I keep nice and busy, but in the evening when I slow down (and make dinner for my family!), I really FEEL those hunger pangs. We'll make it--just a few days to go!

Stick in there! I am on day 4 of pre-op and have felt tired and all of the other fun feelings that go with a decrease of food intake. It is normal. Keep yourself as comfortable as you can and distract yourself if you can!
I have a ton of coloring books, puzzles, books (have been digging the Kate Shugak series) and anything else that will keep my ADD mind occupied.
Hang in there! We're all in it with ya

It actually gets better during the pre-op! Your body will adjust and the cravings will likely go down alot. You're fighting years of unhealthy eating habits. As @@Elode said, your mileage may vary, but most of us found that it all gets better!
The difference in cravings pre-op and post-op are like night and day. I remember walking out of the hospital and smelling BBQ cooking somewhere nearby and I thought, "That smells fantastic! But I'm not hungry." Such an ah-ha moment.
Just keep your eye on the prize. These few weeks a teensy portion of your life, but you should also push yourself to stick with the pre-op as it will help you hugely on your success!
    Best of luck to you!
