Congrats!!! Don't hurt yourself laughing too hard at this. haha! I remember when I was fresh out of surgery and on so much pain medication I called my mom and instead of telling her I made it I for some reason shout/slurred "I AM AN UNREALIZED chicken FARM!!" into the phone. I couldn't understand why everyone in the room was laughing.
HUGS to you and we'll be here to support you on your journey!

Yep, sex. It's a great distraction, stress reliever, calorie burner, and when pre-op nerves are at their prime, it's a nice way to connect with your partner and refocus on the bigger picture; getting healthy, dropping massive weight, losing all of those prescription meds, and having better sex. =)

I'm five weeks out. I am feeling really good and looking pretty good (according to family). I was cleared to advance my diet to hard foods. I can't eat much at a time but I've had some tasty meals. Today I had hot pork from my favorite buffet restaurant. I ordered off the menu. I was totally satisfied with the 1/4 cup I was able to eat. I had it for my supper too. At times I feel a little sad that I can't pig out like I did before but I remember how miserable I was after I would eat like that. From what I understand after some time, I'll be able to enjoy just about any thing just in much smaller quantities. I questioned whether I should have the surgery after losing about 50 lbs on my pre op diet. I have always lost in the past but couldn't reach goal and would gain it back plus more. I really thought maybe this time I could do it on my own. I remember feeling the same way the last two times I was on a weight loss plan. That feeling reminded me that I probably wouldn't reach goal and keep it off without some help.
It is hard. I hated the products i had to eat in the pro op diet and the post op diet. I hated the Protein shakes, I hated the broth. I hate sugar free anything. I'm not getting in the required Protein, calories or fluids yet (by a long shot) but I feel so much better. I was walking 70 minutes a day but my doc wants me to cut back till I get closer to 70 grams of protein and closer to 600-800 calories. It feels like it is a full time job trying to get everything in. I used to drink Coke or Water. Now Water has a bad taste. But that too is getting better.
I cried when I fit into a size 10 jean. I started at a size 20w. I never knew it had a name until I heard it on Jimmy Fallon, but my "front butt" is slowly going away. I have excess skin but it isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
It is a major decision. Not every one has a successful surgery. not everyone will keep the weight off. My husband's Aunt is one year out and has gained
a considerable amount of her weight back. If we don't follow our plan we all can be like his Aunt. Right now I have a great restriction and I'm not very hungry. I could not eat all day and I wouldn't feel hungry. I'm sure that will go away someday. That's when I will have to be diligent in following the plan. I won't deprive myself but I will try to eat mainly healthy. I just don't want to go back to eating the whole bag of candy after eating three plates at the buffet and 3 or 4 cokes. It is actually a relief not having to worry about having enough junk food in the pantry to get me through a night.
So long story short, although I'm sometimes sad, the benefit of the surgery far outweighs the sadness for me.
    Good luck with your decision.

    2. You're on a hunger strike 'til the Bieb goes home to Canada.
    3. You are having weekly liposuction treatments.
    4. You're found these new miracle diet pills!

    6. You're the last person in America to have discovered the Atkins Diet.
    7. You've had bone implants in your legs and are now six inches taller.
    8. You're really your thinner twin who until recently was living in Australia.

    10. You recently gave birth to triplets.

I've been struggling with this issue as well. I live in a small community and have had a number of people ask me "what are you doing? You look great". It's nice to hear, but I feel like the decision was a personal one, and I don't think everyone needs to know. I know that it will probably get around, but I just don't want the watchful judgmental eyes of "what is she eating", "she should have lost more by now" etc, etc . . . .
I've noticed that my good close friends (whom I chose tell about the surgery) are positive and supportive. For all the others, I just tell them I made drastic changes in my lifestyle and thank you for the compliment.
    My two cents.

I have seen different clients everyday as I've lost weight. I've gotten comments and questions about my weight loss every single day for the last 6 months, at least. Most people I tell about my surgery and I get a lot of congrats and you look great and wow! reactions. Some clients I don't tell, basically because I don't like them and prefer to keep my relationship strictly professional. I just say thanks for the complement and change the subject.
All of my friends and family know about my surgery and are super happy for me. As for acquaintances or some friends I haven't seen for awhile, I've had a lot of people not recognize me and then are shocked when they realize it's me. Again, we talk briefly about my surgery and move on.
As for how people relate to me and my sense of self, I really haven't noticed any dramatic changes. I'm still me and still act the same. Everyone else still acts the same towards me. (Except a few friends that call me skinny bitch....the bitch part is normal, it's the skinny part that's new! ). So I guess really the only extra attention I've gotten has been all positive and kind of a conversation starter in some cases because so many people are interested in the whole "going to Mexico and having most of my stomach removed" thing.

I.V. is no problem. It's just like getting blood drawn except they leave it in. The only pain will be the initial prick but it's nothing. If you have good veins they will do it in your arm. If you are so obese that they can't get to them they will insert it in your hand.
Anesthesia is a bit more tricky but there's nothing to worry about. Anesthesia comes with an anti-anxiety medication plus a drug that causes amnesia. This way you are relaxed and will not remember anything that happens. The only real risk is a heart attack or stroke. It is possible for blood pressure to rise considerably during anesthesia. For most people this is not a problem to experience very high blood pressure for 45 minutes to an hour or so. However, a certain percentage will have a heart attack or stroke. The good news is that if you die during anesthesia you will not be aware of it. You will be unconscious so you won't feel any pain. Again, death from anesthesia is rare. One way to cut your risk is to make sure that if you have high blood pressure that it is fully controlled before getting surgery.
The only real major post-op complication, as in life-threatening, is a leak. Leaks are rare but do happen. About 1-3% of people will develop a leak, normally in the first three months after surgery. Symptoms of a leak include fever, abdominal pain, nausea and rapid heart beat. It's important that if you experience these symptoms that you seek medical attention quickly. If left untreated you can develop peritonitis and die. Again, this is rare. Around 97-99% of people never develop a leak. The higher your BMI the greater your chance of developing a leak and having other complications. One way to lessen your chance of developing a leak is to make absolutely sure that you follow the diet to a "T". Many people make the mistake of thinking that since they feel back to normal that they can go ahead and eat normally. Big mistake! It takes the stomach about 6-8 weeks to heal from the surgery. Too much pressure in the stomach before it is sufficiently healed can produce a leak.
I personally don't think there's anything to worry about. I plan on having the surgery in 2015. I've decided that it's worth the minimal risk in order to make sure I lead a normal life and am relatively healthy.

To be honest I was originally going to get the lapband because I know a few people who had had it with great success. After I attended the seminar I started leaning toward the vsg. I then met with my surgeon, who told me he doesn't recommend the lapband because of the failure rates. Then we discussed bypass vs vsg. Simply put I made my decision because the idea of rerouting things in my body made me a little freaked out. I was much more comfortable with shrinking my stomach. I'm about two weeks out from sleeve surgery and so glad that I made this decision.

Looks like I will just mirror what everyone else said as far as not wanting to re-route my intestines, etc.. I have a friend that had RNY in April, 2014 and as of yesterday, she's down about 90 lbs. However, she said she's got quite a bit of loose skin. I was sleeved 9/23/14 and as of yesterday I'm down 30 lbs, but since I'm at the gym several times a week, I'm not noticing any loose skin yet. I'm sure there will be some at some point, I'm just hoping not too much!
I was a little concerned with "only" losing 30 lbs in 2 months, but my doctor confirmed that it's probably in large part due to building muscle, which we all know is denser than fat. He's very happy with the slower weight loss, as he feels it will be easier to keep off in the long run. All I know is that my donation pile is growing every week and while I'm still living out of my closet (you know, those clothes we all said we'd get back into "someday"), I'm about ready to go thrift store shopping! Oh, and I have a couple of tops with horizontal stripes that I'm not afraid to wear now!!!
So the sleeve has definitely been a blessing for me, and since I had my surgery two days before my birthday, my birthday celebration will take on a whole new meaning from now on!!!

I initially was going to have gastric bypass. The reason I wanted it was that I read the statistics that you lose more weight with that than the sleeve. So that was my decision. About half way through the insurance requirements I got very uneasy with the re-routing of the intestines that goes on with the bypass, so I switched to the sleeve. I figured if I would lose, say, 80 pounds with bypass and only 65 with the sleeve, I would work my butt off and make up the difference on my own through discipline and hard work. Well, I ended up losing 140 pounds with the sleeve, and I couldn't be more thrilled. That concern of not losing as much with the sleeve - in retrospect - seems a total moot point for me. I haven't regretted my decision at all.

So I met with my hematologist today and he was like what's it doing? What's going on with the surgery? I was like I just need clearance from you and I can get a date. He was like I sent your doctor a letter a few weeks ago clearing you. (I last saw him 10/13/14 and did blood work and CT scan) Also I called the last week in Oct to remind him like he told me to and the lady (she can be so rude and mean at times) was like Ohhhh no Dr. Rosen doesn't clear anyone without them coming in again and going over the results, I tried to tell her no he told me to call. Then she was like Oh no in all the 30 yrs I been working here this is how he does it. And she was WRONG!! He already cleared me.
Then In my head I was omgosh my pcp got the letter and didn't reach out to me. I could have been scheduled already. I had to laugh smh, so I asked him to write another letter and send it to the surgeon please. So hopefully they get the letter next week and I can get a date. He was like next time I see you you better be skinny and good luck my dear! Yes Dr. Rosen I am gonna be thinner next time I see you! When I was leaving the office he was telling the receptionist to call the dr and get the address! I'm gonna really enjoy thanksgiving this year. Have so much to be thankful for!
