Stretchy dresses are easy to hem and forgive 20 pounds of loss... and I hesitate to suggest that any grown woman shop girls clothing, but the fact is some of those styles are much more mature than you'd think and many of the jeans are identical - but shorter and priced a helluvalot cheaper.

People who have undergone bariatric surgery know the weight loss battle does not end in the operating room. Months and even years after surgery, some weight can slowly creep back on. But this isn't a time to panic because now you have the tools to overcome a little setback and regain control of your weight.
This time, you are in charge.

One of the lessons you learn after weight loss surgery is that you are in charge of your health, diet and exercise program. The food no longer rules the roost--you do.
The truth of the matter is no matter what the scale says, 110 or 310, everyone puts on a few pounds now and then. As a bariatric surgeon in New Jersey for more than 10 years, one of the biggest anxiety triggers for patients is weight gain.
"That's it--it's over--I'm going to gain all the weight back."
Of course that's not true. To get back on pace, I’ve listed a few essential steps to help get you back on track to dropping the pounds once again:
    • Go back to the beginning
Post-surgery, you probably followed your healthcare team’s advice to the letter. But as time passed, and you looked and felt healthier, you may have started to deviate from those dietary and exercise guidelines. Pull out your notes and review the program guidelines that brought you this far. Get back on the scale once a week and fire up your food journal again.
    • Get thyself to the nearest support group ─ STAT
Weight loss is a personal journey, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one. Online support groups on BariatricPal.com are great secondary resources to live weekly or monthly groups with your bariatric doctor or hospital. There is support all-around you, reach out and take it.
    • Work it out
Are you using the ‘too tired’ reason for missing a trip to the gym or 30 minute fast walk around the neighborhood? If you need energy, you know how to get it—get up, get out and get moving. “Too busy,” you say? Remember, only you can prioritize your health and wellness. You matter—make time for your health every single day.
    • Come to terms with the weight gain
This doesn’t mean blaming yourself. Rather, be forthright about how and why it happened and pat yourself on the back that you’ve recognized it now—not later.
There’s no need to beat yourself up. You have already done the hard part by recognizing some weight has crept back on. That in itself shows you are going to battle back. We encourage our patients at Sterling Surgicare to call us if they feel frustrated or defeated--everyone needs a pep talk now and then.
Remember there are many people supporting you 24/7 in this effort.
Life is filled with occasional side-steps and set-backs. It is part of making us who we are. Make a plan, regroup, recommit.
    You can do this.

What don’t I dislike about the fashion industry? That would be a little quicker…
But okay, a few of the problems I have:
I would have a lot more options if I were taller. Sorry, I’m only 5’7.” Does that mean I don’t deserve to wear clothes that fit? Sizes are inconsistent between brands. I have no idea how big or small something will be without trying it on, and I don’t like clothes shopping. Shapes, and proportions…apparently mine aren’t the same as the clothes’.

Agree with definitely do your research...I am being sleeved on Friday. I chose the sleeve because I didn't want to deal with the absorptive issues of the bypass nor did I want a foreign body in me with the lap band. I also didn't want to do a lifetime of adjustments with the lapband.
My surgeon agreed with my reasoning and said that most cases the sleeve is appropriate and he feels I will do well with it. I have 100+ pounds to lose and I have lost 41 pounds going into surgery. I have no reason to think I won't be a success.
With regard to anything not being as effective for women? I think any of the three surgeries is a tool and only a small part of the story. For most it is a necessary tool and for varying reasons but it's your eating habits and the exercise you do once you are more mobile that make you a success or not. Just my opinion.
    Good luck in your decision!!

Had a piece of pizza the other night ( pepperoni ), but I only have it occasionally. Can't stand beer and most alcohol, so Im no help there. Don't think of WLS as a food funeral, instead think of it as a funeral for your fat ! A couple of my favorite foods were General Tso's chicken with sweet and sour sauce, and broccoli salad. I can't get either one of those down since being banded, and while I miss them occasionally, I Don't miss the misery of being obese. You'll soon find out what you can and can't eat, but more importantly you'll find out what you CAN do . Good luck !!!

None. I have stopped associating food wth guilt, I refuse to spoil my occasional treats by regretting them afterwards. There is no food I never eat!

Here's the best part of this...I have no guilty pleasures. I eat anything I want. I just do it sparingly and in doing that, without the guilt. For me, the guilt was always the amount I ate...or that I was the fat woman with Ring Dings, chips, and soda in her shopping cart. Life is so much better this way with a cart full of lean Protein, veggies, good carbs...and a few treats like thin pretzels, SF jello/pudding, and unsalted nuts.

I love how women are continuously grouped here as if we all think the same, feel the same, react the same. What a hoot! I wonder where the heck that leaves me!
I work in the beauty industry and it's fact that I hate "women" or at least the stereotype that women seem to be put under. I truly think I was born a "man" mentally. I suck at taking hints, I rarely think about FEEEEEELINGS, not because I don't care or I want to hurt someone's feelz, but simply because the thought never occurs to me. I don't remember birthdays or anniversaries, I am not very sentimental, and people who are dramatic, sensitive, or overly emotional make me cuh-RAY-zee.
I am sarcastic, quick witted, and one of those "what you see is what" you get types. Yes, I am the same in person as I am on the internet and you will often here me say, "Do you want me to be nice or do you want me to be honest?" when asked a question.

As for the "mud flaps" thread? I think the OP was sincerely worried about his girlfriend's feelings. It seemed that as long as his "golf balls" are being handled, he's happy.

I trolled this forum for a long while before posting anything. As someone said earlier, a lot of the forums are female dominated. I choose to start my posting in the Guy's Room because I honestly don't/didn't think I could relate with the female perspective or better yet, that females couldn't relate to my perspective. There is a ton of amazing ladies on this site with a ton of good advice. I was just looking for some guy talk.
To be honest, I was take back when women started posted on my threads. I thought that they were out of place. I then downloaded the app and realized that on the Unread Posts or newest content, it was hard, if not impossible to tell that what forum room you are in.
I understand how this happens now and I understand. This guy would like to say, I forgive you and accept your apology. I'm sorry that someone was so rude to you. Thank you for being sensitive to the Guy's Room.

I have found that if I start a thread that I am only interested in male responses........ then I state in the title something to the effect of "men only please". That way, the nature of the thread will show in "Recent Topics" as well and cue the reader that it is a Guy Room thread.
Plus, it was much easier to just stop wearing all my panties that were getting all bunched up.
No, really, I did ....it feels great going commando......
see, TMI. (I probably should have put this in the Guy's room......then again....maybe not )

Without realising it, I replied to a topic under the Recent Topics List (about clothing) having no idea it was on a Men Only Board. Today, again under the Recent Topics, a thread has appeared saying that women are not respecting men's privacy and are daring to post on the Guys' Room.
Please don't assume I, or any other poster is deliberately infringing your privacy or trying to find your manly secrets!!! When you open a Recent Threads topic, it goes straight to the thread and the "Women Keep Out" post does not show.
Because of the timing, I can't believe the thread showing concern about breaching your privacy wasn't a response to my accidental post!
Don't worry, boys. Your secrets are safe. I haven't read any of your threads. Will double check the source of posts before daring to answer anything. But if you don't want women to read your posts, maybe you should ask the administrators to make sure they don't appear in Recent Topics,

@@foodfighter78, I'm glad you got an answer.
@@proudgrammy - a stricture is when a band of scar tissue forms around something and causes it to get tight - they can get small enough to keep any food from passing through, and they can be stretched via endoscopy with a balloon. They can happen in the esophagus, the new stomach, or anywhere in the intestines... more common at the junctions, but they can occur with no surgery at all in some people.

The pain you described on your right side - that sounds like gallbladder pain -do you still have your gallbladder? If so, ask them to check you for gallstones, and if that is negative, ask for a HIDA scan. I had my GB out years ago, but it took 6 years of pain, and at least 5 different doctors to get diagnosed b/c I did not have gallstones, just a GB that did not work.
The pain is up under the ribcage on the right and can often be felt in the back or shoulder as well. It is very common after rapid weight loss.
I hope you get some relief soon!

scstxrn got a reaction from ogleland in New to Bariatric Pal and have questions
I chose a sleeve because I wanted the minimum amount of rerouting with the maximum odds of success. I also didn't want to have to give up Ibuprofen forever, and the surgeon I used didn't say I'd have to - although I do limit NSAIDS now. I also suck at remembering to take pills, so the Vitamin regimen was somewhat daunting to me. From a physiological standpoint, I also know the body increases its resorptive capacity in response to malnutrition, and the pouch can stretch... I work with several nurses who had roux en y, many regained after a rapid weightloss... they have many of the complications of wls, with few of the 'benefits'. I work with 3 who have had the sleeve, and none have not regained. They lost slower, but it stayed off.
My highest weight was 335; I was 315 when I decided to have surgery and 295 day of. That was 5 months and 2 days ago, and this morning I weighed 227. I haven't done much exercise and I'm not the most careful with my diet.
I found out a couple of months ago that I have MS. There's one oral medication, Tecfidera, that would theoretically have a LOT more side effects with bypass than it does with my sleeve - simply because it would absorb more quickly. Potato chips seem to reduce much of the side effect - and half a serving of potato chips twice a day with my medicine has slowed my weight loss down to 8 pounds this month.
I had 150 pounds to lose when I got my sleeve, and I believe I will make my goal and maintain with it. I might already be at goal if I were more careful with what I put in my mouth and made it a priority to exercise, but I'm ok with the pace I'm going at.

Trust me on this. 95% of your weight loss will come by diet not exercise. Give yourself a chance to heal and eat properly drink lots of Water and be patient. The weigh will come off. Your going to hit stalls you will adventually come to terms mentally with the stalls. It took me 5 months to feel 100%. Then at about 9 months I discovered I could run. In Febuary, I started running and now have 2 half marathons under my belt and various other distances. Sure you will lose some weight exercising, but what I have found is once I lost the weigh running allows me to eat a bit more without gaining it back . This does not mean you dont have to watch what you eat but you will be able to absorb a few more carbos. In short, weight loss is one nutrtional set of rules were athletics comes under another set of dietary rules. Learn the weigh lose rules first. Make them second nature. Once you have lost most the weight and you increase exercise schedule a appointment with your nut and look at your nutritional needs. Also be aware that you can run into to blood sugar problems. As in being to low. You will get dizzy and feel a bit of anxiety if this happens. I found a couple of serving of fruit daily keeps me balanced.

Also, I subscribe to the "eat full fat or nothing at all" thought...
Full fat cheese, yogurt, mayo, real butter, oils, etc....that will help get your calories up, also. And they taste better than the low fat fake stuff they try to push....

Stay completely away from carbs right now and concentrate on Proteins and veggies. Can you get in some shakes in between meals or are you sick of shakes, lol? I think shakes would be a good way to get some more calories and Protein in for you right now when you're so soon out and can't get all the calories you need from food quite yet.
