bewell got a reaction from Kindle in Attention scale users! A new challenge.
Just flew an international flight-Seattel to Singapore. I didn't need a seat belt extension and ate very little of the food service. Had my Protein drinks and some nuts/fruit and that was all I needed. Also was able to walk the long jet ways from flight to flight. Made this trip much easier. Now for the adventure to see how eating in Singapore will be. Off to the market to get what I need. And yes, we walk every where here. Pubic transportation.
PS-also will visit Bali for 6 days and swim in the ocean. I'm loving it.

I wish you the best on your journey.
I also had my band removed in Jan and a sleeve done at the some time. I had lots of problems with the band, slips, constant pain, had it redone, etc.
I love my sleeve. For me it is so much easier and less painful (after recovery) than the lap band. I'm still new at the sleeve but I don't get hungry and just a little food is all I need or want. Even with the band I wanted more food.< /p>
    Hang in there!

I sure remember thinking "What HAVE I DONE!!!" but now I'm so happy with my choice. Hang in there. The surgery is a huge insult to our stomach and it takes time to adjust. And it does.

Take care of you and be gentle with yourself!

Thank you so much for having the courage to share your story. It is one I needed to hear. I wish you the best, you deserve it. I hope you can be gentle and kind to yourself. Why not, beating ourselves up didn't work in the past, it won't work today.
This is just my take on my disease. I do have a eating disorder. I needed WLS to help me have any chance at a normal life, a normal weight. But I also need a lot of help and support and yes, a shrink to help me with my crazy habitual and lifelong relationship with food. Any WLS can be beat and the same thoughts that got me into trouble and obese don't magically go away when I have WLS.

Just checking in----I am in Singapore (HOT AND HUMID) for 3 weeks. My hubby works here. It's a challenge to get the right foods but not impossible. Thank heavens for Fuzzy Navel. A few days ago I tried seaweed salad, a few bites so I thought I was good. Last night I ate a bit more, like 4 bites and spent the rest of the night heaving it all back up. Felt like serious acid reflux. My throat burns today.
I've been here in Singapore many times and usually sweat like a "xx" .....well you know what. 50 pounds higher and I still sweat but not nearly so much and cool down much faster.
It was always an odd feeling to be around so many Asians who are generally not overweight, often small frames, and walk everywhere. I'm still a big girl but I feel better so I'm not feeling so conspicuous and standing out. It is amazing what loosing 1/3 of my weight feels like. I can't even begin to imagine what 80 more pounds will be like. Scary actually but I'm working with my shrink on that one.
    Best to all of you!

It took me a lot longer to get to regular food than most. I had to stop reading where others could eat anything cuz I'd try it and vomit immediatly.
The upside is I have really great restriction. I still drink Protein drinks and feel full on one.
I am still just introducing some new foods. I tried many foods too soon and they all came back up, proto.
Just trust your body to tell you what works and what doesn't. I still can't eat Protein and vegetables in one meal. Even when the protein is just 2 oz. I wait about an hour to 2 hours after the protien and then eat the vegetable. My doc says it works for me so I eat 4-5 small meals, several are still Protein Drinks. I'm happy with how it's going.

I see so many posts on here from people stressing over the numbers on the scale...."I'm stalled", "I'm a failure" , "what am I doing wrong?" "How much did everyone lose at X months out?" "Disappointed" "only down X number of pounds" etc etc. Seems like a lot of unnessecary, made up unhappiness over a stupid number. The scale has become the transfer addiction for so many.
So for those of you obsessing over, and making yourself unhappy because of what the scale says, I challenge you to STAY OFF THE SCALE FOR A MONTH! Check in on this thread once/week, just like the other CHALLENGES on this forum, but instead of a number, report your latest NSV.'s Whether it's an improvement in your health, a drop in Meds, a smaller clothing size, an activity you couldn't do before, a nice compliment, a new, healthy food choice, whatever. Tell us something that made you feel good about your decision to have WLS. Something that has nothing to do with the scale. After all, these are the things that matter.
At the end of the month, go ahead and weigh. Hopefully you can see how much easier this journey is when you Celebrate the NSVs rather than fretting over numbers.
I've had SO many NSV's in the last year, but since I just went on my first couple horseback rides of the season this last week I'll start there... I can hop up into the saddle without needing to find a stepping log or rock. And I LOVE the new saddle I had to buy last summer because my butt was way too small for my old saddle. And I had to tighten the thigh straps on my chaps at least 3 inches for them to fit.
Comon...let's hear what made your week!
Oh yeah, and this isn't meant to be just an NSV thread, it's meant to be a stay off the scale and celebrate your NSVs thread.....No weighing for a month!!!!

bewell reacted to loseitsoon in Two Years, At Goal, Tummy Tuck Complications
It's been a long time since I have been on here. I had my sleeve on January 9, 2013 and reached my goal of losing 81 lbs in 11 months. I am now 3-4 lbs over that and I have been struggling to lose those few lbs. I am eating about 1,100 to 1,400 calories a day. I know I have to get back on the program of fewer carbs and fewer calories. I got a fitbit a few months ago and that has really helped me get my 10,000 to 18,000 steps in a day. I lost a lot of hair in the first year. It has grown back now but the funny thing is my once straight hair is now curly! Has anyone heard of this happening? I had my vitimins done again at 2 years and I was way over my vitimin B's, so I am not taking any right now. I guess I am getting enough from real food. Everything else was fine.

Last June 6 months after I reached goal I had a Tummy Tuck. It was done in a hospital in Michigan. The surgery went well and I was back in my room but was growing very weak. They discovered I had interal bleeding. So they rushed me back into surgery and I was bleeding all over interally. They fixed this and I still needed to have 2 blood transfusions before I started feeling better. I spent an extra day in the hospital. They can not figure out why this happened to me. I don't think and no one else thinks it was anything the doctor did. I have had lots of extensive work blood done and everything is normal. I have had my other surgeries with no problems. I wasn't taking any meds at the time. I am only thankful that I chose to have my surgery in a hospital. Since I live almost an hour from the hospital I don't know that I would have made it. I can only recommend that anyone having plastics or any other surgery have it in a hospital. If you are in a surgical center and don't live nearby I would stay in a hotel overnight.

I love my tummy now. The surgeon did a wonderful job. Never in my life have I ever had a flat stomach. My scar is nice and flat and even around. I had a normal recovery after I got home. It was not an easy recovery, not a lot of pain but very uncomforable. I wore a compression garment for a few months and a light panty girdle for a few more. He removed about 4.5 lbs of excess skin and fat. Would I do it again? As much as I love it I'm not sure it was worth almost dying over and scaring my family. Think long a hard if this is something you really want to do afterall it is elective surgery.
I am so happy to have had my sleeve, I am so my happier and healthier now. My husband is a happy man too!

Today I made my first flying trip since surgery and the fantastic news, I could use the seat belt without an extension! Whoohoo!
The not so good news, 4 days ago I had a planned binge on steamed broccoli and it turned out bad. I knew what I was doing, I wanted my old favorite evening activity of constant grazing and TV. Zone out...feel full, some metal hunger that wanted to be soothed. But of course it didn't work. I vomited hard, felt terrible all night and the next day.
The emotional journey with this WLS is hard. The old ways of self-medicating with food doesn't work now. I knew it was not a good choice to overeat any food. It could possibly stretch my new tiny tummy and challenge the new staple line of my new stomach. But I did it anyway, just had to have it! NOT a healthy choice. I did meet with my shrink the next day to work on those old emotional wounds so hopefully I won't have to do that again.
Today I am getting a good laugh at my binge on BROCCOLI!! It tasted so good it could have been ice-cream. Only fellow WLS folks to relate to this. (I HOPE!??) A "normal" eater just wouldn't get it.
Anyone else having some emotional challenges now that we can't eat our way through them?
Stall over I guess....I lost one very precious pound.

This is such a great thread. I needed to hear this.
I am a recent lap-band to sleeve revision. 10 years with lap-band complications! I am terrified after the sleeve surgery is healed, it won't work because it doesn't hurt all the time like my lap band did. Doesn't help that I've been on a weight loss stall for a week.
Hearing about all of this long-term success, combined with focus and hard work AND the sleeve, I am feeling relieved. My eyes are set on the long-term goal----an active rest of my life time at a normal weight, with daily vigilance about what I eat and staying active. I can do it and it WILL WORK!!
    Thank you!!

It works but keep in mind that you have to work hard at it too. I KNOW there is no way I could have lost weight without WLS. But ongoing it is 40% WLS and 60% up to me to keep it working.

You won't believe this (I didn't) but right after WLS you won't miss those foods you are thinking about having with your daughter. Instead, you will be overjoyed to simply drink a glass of Water or eat a vegetable/fruit. My first divine food after surgery was steamed broccoli; it was nearly orgasmic! Honest

After the clear liquid phase, the only Protein drink I could do was Sytax fuzzy navel. I love it and still drink it daily. It's tasty and not thick. (Thankfully someone told me about it on this site. Saved my day!)
Sorry you have to go back to work so soon but get it. Take care.
