What Not to Stuff this Thanksgiving

I made that pumpkin shake for my lunch today. Its going to be my "go to" shake. It satisfied my sweet tooth and pumpkin craving. Since I will be weeks out on Thanksgiving day, I may make this shake up and take it along for my dessert. I still can only eat 3 oz of food so this shake will be good for me.

    Need Advice

\Dusgusting how insurance companies know more than the doctors. Before my husband retired, his insurance wouldn't cover the surgery for me. Now he has medicare and I have Blue Shield Of Calif and they had no problem covering me.
  9. Dear momtosix. I am sorry if I appear rude. You say you don't believe anyone NEEDS wls. Your wrong. I was on a diet at the age of one. Yes, that is one. I have struggled with weight all my life. I have tried about every diet out there. Then I became diabetic. 3 drs told me my body has lost the ability to lose weight. I needed to STAY on a diet to maintain. Not to lose. I no longer had that capability. WLS was the ONLY answer and hope out there. If you have never been more than 30 lbs over weight you do not know what it is to struggle with weightloss. You can not and should not be judgmental of your husband or anyone else who needs to lose weight. Deciding to have this surgery and going thru all the test has been very dramatic for me. Imagine having your right arm amputated. Well, I had my stomach amputated. 85% of it anyway. That was not easy to deal with. Did I want wls. NO. Did I need it to prevent blindness, dialysis limb amputations? You betcha. Was this the easy way out? NO. Do I like only being able to eat 3 oz of food while others are enjoying a meal? Did I enjoy making my husband a batch of brownies yesterday knowing I can't have any? Try going to the movies and smelling all that pop corn. This has been the biggest sacrifice I have ever done. It is also the hardest thing in my life that I have ever done. (outside of burring my sister.) I needed this surgery to live. I know it was the smartest thing I have done. I hope you never have to go thru this.

    Feeling regret...

I can relate. About the start of my 3rd week I was really hating life and felt I made a hugh mistake. I was bored with the same foods day after day. One can of pureed Soup would last me 5 days. I wanted variety. I was mean and feeling sorry for myself. I too couldn't see past pureed foods. Felt I would never never never be able to eat again. I used to cook every Sunday for my parents. I felt I could never do that again. Well, last night, I had my parents over and made chicken fricasse. (sp) I had one chicken thigh with the sauce. It was great! I made a salad for them ( as I can not eat salad yet.) There was warm fresh french bread, straight from the bakery. ( I didn't have any) I also made brownies for desert. I have to admit, I did "taste" the batter! And I do mean taste it. Once I had it in my mouth and tasted it, I felt so guilty that I didn't want it, so I spit it out! I can see each day getting easier. I need to focus on the future, but its hard. I have never been this, so its hard for me to imagine a thin life or wearing stylish clothes. Weight is coming off, but very slow. I had surgery on Oct 9th and have lost 19 lbs since then, I am not walking like I should. I am sure that has a lot to do with it. I am looking forward to the day I could walk without the back pain. Hopefully as I lose, the pain will ease up.

What Causes Appetite Loss after WLS?

I was sleeved on 10/9/14. I still get hungary, but food makes me hurt now. I get very full fast ( 3 oz) and most foods give me a pain in my esophagus and stomach. I can handle 3 oz of cottage cheese, but most foods are uncomfortable for me. So, I am better off just having a taste and walk away. I did poach salmon and learned to chew chew chew. I thought taking 30 minutes to eat 3 oz was ridiculous, But honestly, I have to chew so much it takes me close to 30 to eat a meal.

    Slow weight loss

I feel my weight is coming off slow also. I was sleeved on 10/9 and have only lost 19 since. I was told I should lose 30 my first month. Wish they never told me this so I wouldn't feel like a failure at only 19 loss. I do admit, I am not walking every day. That probably has a lot to do with it. But I am still hurting when I walk. (back mostly)
  13. Thanks CafeCathey great idea. That will come in handy on the cruise. I love this site. So many suggestions coming from real people with the same problem and goals.

Age 50 or over (or anyone)

I am 59 was sleeved on Oct 9. Today was my first day to eat soft foods, Dummy me sautéed broccoli. NOOOO my stomach about killed me I had 2 oz of salmon and 1 oz broccoli. I think its too soon for broccoli. Anyone have any suggestions on what to eat? I appreciate hearing from everyone.
  16. I wish Protein powder came in single serving size like crystal lite does. I am thinking I will put single serving sizes in zip lock bags for my cruise. A lot lighter than carrying premier Protein drinks for a 10 day cruise.

So slow coming off ! Come on already

I had the sleeve Oct 9th. I am on a frustrating stall. I was told I should lose 30 lbs the first month. I am down 17 lbs and 7 days from month 1. i don't see me losing 13 lbs in 7 days. I am still a week away before my next stage of pureed foods. I am really getting bored with the same foods every day. For those who have reached your 5th week, what are you eating? I have never poached fish before, how do you do that. I am married and haven't fixed a meal in over a month. Hard to cook and smell the food when I can only have 3 oz of pureed. Help.
  22. wls to me was very stressful. The test you have to go thru in order to get it, plus having a part of you amputated, was very hard for me. If I wanted to get attention, I could find hundreds of other ways to get it. Sounds like your spouse is insecure and jealous of the attention you will be getting. Ignore her , you get was to get healthier. And the attention…well, thats an added bonus.

    Crying pot op

I have had several surgeries and each time, about 2 weeks out, I get very emotional. I would cry at anything. Your husband should not have made you walk like that. He does not live inside your body and don't know how you are feeling. Next time, ignore him and do what your body is telling you to do. Like go to bed.
