Hi you guys! 3 days post op and feeling OK. Just sipping and walking taking it 1 day at a time. Its a challenge but I'm getting threw it. Thank for all the prayers and good luck you guys!! I will keep everyone posted on my process. ????????

Don't shoot me anyone - but I was back at work in 5 days, including a weekend. I only missed 3 days of work. I am a widow with a special needs son, so I'm the only one working. Thankfully I was good to go, just a bit tired.

Hi all! I'm tentatively scheduled for my sleeve surgery on Jan. 15th, and I'm just wondering how long you ended up having to take off work? I work from home, and my work shifts are short-ish--4 hours. I'm hoping to take no more than a week off, if that much, and seriously hoping to just schedule my shifts "around" the surgery so I don't actually have to take time off at all.
What were your experiences? I know it varies from person to person, but I want to know what to prepare my work for--I really would rather not tell them I'm having surgery at all if I can avoid it (one of the perks of working from home, ha!).

Congratulations! My advice would be to prepare by learning/researching all you can, also don't base your journey on anyone else's we are all different! Good luck!

Howdy, I'm a 12/18 sleever as well--started my 2 week pre-op diet today. I have my pre-op appointment on 12/8. Nervous but super excited as well!

I'd love to get in on the support texting!! My surgery is Dec 3rd in Greenville, SC!! Had EGD done Friday and went well. ( Awesome drugs knocked me out and that was some of the best sleep I've have in a long time. I have a high tolerance to things like that so I was surprised I came home and slept most of day my husband said. So if you haven't had it done, just plan a long day sleeping!! I had to do a pre-op 4 week diet with a medical food brand called Optifast to shrink my liver. Our surgeons require it. It's 5 liquid meals a day plus 1 high Protein 4oz protein, chicken etc and 1 cup of veggies and a fruit. I lost 15.5 lbs in the first 2 weeks-heading into my 3rd week now!! My number is 864-979-7852 so text and introduce yourself. I've got some great info on things to take with you to the hospital that your Dr probably won't tell you from my postop friends that were lifesavers!! Congrats to everyone on this journey we are beginning!!

Oh, happy happy dance, Dec 17, in Durham, NC ,every requirement done, BSBS of NC approved, cannot believe it's this close , Feels like I have been jumping through hoops forever, but started Journey in August, so happy to hear that I have Dec pals.

You will be fine alone. I was alone during the day and actually was happy about it because the gas gods were not good to me. It sounded like a shooting range in my house, but since I was alone, I didn't worry about it. (and I am happy to report no animals were hurt by the cross fire) Sorry if that was TMI! I had my surgery on a Thursday, was released from the hospital on Saturday, was off 1 full week and back to work on the following Monday, with no problems, and most importantly, no gas heehee! I didn't have anyone with me throughout the day(kids at school and husband at work) and I did fine! They just set up my chair with my fluids on ice meds..ect and I was good until Everyone came home! I didn't have any complications though so I was ok.

Good Luck My insurance approved mine on Nov. 21st. then after what felt like an eternity I got the call on Monday 1st Dec to schedule my surgery, and only one week of the liquid diet.. then Surgery is on 8 Dec. Today was my pre-op, and now I am starting to feel a bit anxious.

Hey you should call because uou usually find out before your doctor does. When mine got approved I called my doctor's office right away to set up my surgery day and here I am with a surgery date of December 29th, 2014!!

I looked online on my medical page through my doctor's page and saw the referral status for my insurance went from Pending to Authorized! I'm assuming that means I am approved!! I am so excited!!
Should I wait to call my doctor and schedule surgery or shall I call myself?!?! Yesterday it showed pending review.
Ah! So excited, and really nervous at the same time. It seems like it is so real now!! I am hoping for a January date.

So, I have not had too much luck finding a Protein that doesn't have a nasty aftertaste. I've told you about GENEPRO unflavored that is truly unflavored and can go into everything....but THIS I discovered today, and I have to share.
8 oz skim milk (8gm protein)
1 full scoop of Syntrax Cookies and creme protein (23 gms protein)
1 spoonful of Hershey unsweetened cocoa powder
handful of ice cubes
mix in your vitamixer or magic bullet.
OMG!! DESSERT!!!!!!!
no aftertaste, no protein taste at all! Just tastes like a chocolate milkshake, only BETTER!

It's here!! Surgery day!! Of course I'm awake an hour before my alarm goes off, not surprising... Here we go!!!

Yep I agree with@@bobbyswife, drink some fluids, take some emergen-C and try to get some rest! You are probably run down from all the stress (which isn't helping you by the way ; )- ) If you think it's really going to turn into a cold get some Zicam! Good luck!

Just know you are doing this for the right reasons. I had mentally prepared myself for the sleeve and found out (2) days prior to surgery my gallbladder was coming out too. That I wasn't prepared for! Threw me in a tizzy. But ultimately as long as you know you are doing this for you, and know this is a 'tool'. It won't change your life it's not a miracle cure, but it will help you change yours. I had minimal support during the process. None of my friends or family would come meet with doctor's with me or go to any groups with me, my boyfriend at the time (now an ex) told me how he would like to tell off the doctor would said I could get this done. But this was for me. I think if you're doing this for yourself, and you've already made the commitment to do this for you, the changes aren't as difficult as one would presume. I had surgery on Friday. You think oh my goodness how a I going to give up everything I love. But you realize that one spoon of unsweetened apple sauce tastes like an ice cream sundae. You're really not hungry. I look at things and say, yeah I'd like to eat that, and maybe one day I will, but I know it will be in moderation.
As far as bringing things with you, bring your phone, iPod, chargers, I was pretty entertained by the television set, I had some good medication and kept dozing in and out. I'd say chap stick, but know my doctor's wouldn't let me use any petroleum products since I was on O2 the first night, so they provided me with a lotion type of tube for my lips. Bring slippers and a robe, or request an extra gown. Walking every two (2) hours sometimes only my dad was in the room and I didn't want him seeing my hind quarters or relying on somebody to tie me every time I got out of bed, so being able to just throw something easily and quickly over your shoulders was great. Also an extra pair of draws! Pretty much everybody wears leaving that they wore in, comfy cozy clothes, but a clean pair of draws when leaving was pretty high on my priority list.

I had it done this morning. Everything was cleared for surgery!

I am keeping mine a secret from my dad. My spouse knows. My best friends know. Everyone else just knows I'm having my hiatal hernia fixed. That is true, I am, and I've always had stomach problems. I think it's private and I don't want the world knowing about it!
