  1. For me snacking is all about nuts. You get the crunch, salt, Protein and they fill you up for a long while. After talking with my nutritionist yesterday she was happy that I have made nuts, cheese or beef Jerky my snack choices. More importantly she wanted to make sure I was realizing that I was hungry before choosing a snack. I don't always do this so now I am really tring hard to pay attention to my hunger to make sure it is real.
  2. @@jessb418, I am really glad you asked this question. I am just at the 5 month mark. I have lost 80lbs and would like to lose another 65 to reach my goal. It is actually a goal I never thought possible and honestly was not striving for. My original goal was to improve my health and I have done more than I ever could have imagined. No more diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure. I found out this week that my stage 3 kidney disease has improved to the point where my kidneys are functioning at a normal level. My sleep apnea has resolved. I thought after all this, that asking to continue to lose to get to my goal which is to no longer be overweight at all was just plain greedy. I am working hard and will continue to do so because I now have new goals in mind for me. I am unstoppable!
  3. Hang in there. I feel so bad when I hear stories like this. Hopefully your doctors office will help push this through for you. Don't let yourself get down, we all know what tends to happen when we are depressed. I wish you all the best and will say a little prayer for you.
  4. Cabbage is very hard on the tummy. I would stay away at least until you are out of pureed and onlto soft foods and then I would make sure it is pretty mushy.
  5. I also though it strange that you can eat a whole cup of good at once at your point post op.. The most I seem to be able to get in is maybe 2/3 of a cup and I am 5 months post op. Although some people are different so u may want to ask your doctor about that. I agree the most important thing is to get your Protein and liquid in. You may have irritated your tummy last week when you threw up. It just might need a little time to heal.
  6. @@Sunshine_Gal, I was cleared to eat anything my tummy would tolerate at 3 months. I believe the first thing I tried was a very small amount of almonds. I think I ate about 9 the first few times. Later I found that I tolerate cashews, pistachios and pecans better. Now I love them all. I will only snack on a 1/4 cup if that or a piece of beef jerkey or an ounce of cheese.
  7. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Stories like this are so inspirational! I have passed the halfway point but still have around 65 lbs to go. Everyday is such a treat! Today my hubby and I were in the mall going to the Apple Store, we walked past a Lucky brand jeans store. ( I have shopping at Lanr Bryant for many years - size 24/26). Anyway, I have always wanted a pair of Lucky brand jeans but the largest size you can get at their stores is a 14. They can order a 16 but that is the biggest. Today my husband said, honey your jeans are sagging why don't you go in and try a pair. I know I could fit into a 16 but of course they did not have them, so the young lady said why don't you try the 14's to see if you like the cut. I was so shocked to try on the 14 and they fit! I have not been in a size like that since I was in my 20s! Well today I went home with two pairs that I bought from Lucky, not lane Bryant! Woot woot! By the way, I love to shop now.
  8. @@esskay77, I was told the exact same thing and I focus on grams of Protein. If I snack I snack on nuts, cheese or beef Jerky. I saw my nut today and the are extremely happy with my progress and eating behaviors. I would never hit 75 of more protein grams in a day without a Protein shake and without snacking, Even though I don't count calories, I track my food intake everyday using fitness pal. I know if I am eating too much fat, or carbs but I don't really count. It helps me make better food choices.
  9. Thanks for sharing your stories with us. I am past the halfway point in my weight loss and because of my age my skin is a real issue everywhere. I am working out regularly and I understand that I might get some bounce back but I am not expecting a lot. I now have no rear, very saggy thighs, , what I call very bad grandma arms and of course my boobs and tummy are very saggy now too. It's almost like someone stuck a pin in me and let all the air out. I definitely plan to do plastics and my hubby is very supportive. I cannot wait until I am ready to have some of these procedures. The first will be dealing with my arms.
  10. I am not sure if it is about the fat content or not. I began eating them at 12 weeks and I have no problems. I also eat shelled pistachios. Nut are one of my favorite snack items along with beef Jerky and cheese. I do eat fat in my diet and have not had any problems and am losing on a very good pace. I just wonder if maybe it is a little too soon for you. Everyone is different so although they cleared you, you will need to listen to your body, which it sounds like you are doing a great job of. Try again in another couple of weeks.
  11. I have not heard anything about premier protein being a problem for bypass patients. In fact it was my surgical team that recommended it for me because I do not tolerate whey protein isolate. I see my nutritionist tomorrow afternoon and plan to ask that question.
  12. You look absolutely amazing! Congratulations!
  13. I have been wearing guards on my rings after I lost my first 30lbs which was about a month post op. Now even the ring guards don't help. I am taking both of mine in today for the first resizing. Also as far as losing shoe size ( I wear 11s too). I did go from a extra wide width to a narrow. Some shoes I can fit in a 10 1/2 but it is rare.
  14. This is interesting, I have the exact same thing going on. I have no idea where they are coming from. Has anyone gotten an answer on this?
  15. How shameful that your mother in particular treated you this way. Being a mother and grandmother myself I cannot imagine ever making my children feel this way. You definitely don't need that in your life. It sounds like you are persevering and have made steps to become a healthier new you. It will be important for you not to allow your family to bring you down. Half the battle is about staying positive. You have friends here on this site when you need them. As hard as it might be to ignore and stay away from negative influences in your life, you will have to continue to stay strong and lean on your wife and friends that are supportive. You should be very proud of yourself for taking steps to improve your life. It is so worth it! Good luck and God bless!
  16. I was allowed a chocolate protein shake. Can u have those?
  17. I told many people but only after I was well down the road to surgery with an imminent approval from insurance. I wanted to make sure it was really going to happen before I told people. I have received nothing but support from all my friends and family. If folks are gossiping behind my back, I figure let them. I have a lot of will power so I know that I will be successful. Good luck in your decisions!
  18. I suspect you are in starvation mode. Not enough calories or protein. I might suggest you call your surgeons office and have a quick conversation.
  19. I am definitely one of those people who's grouch pouch makes noise. Liquids definitely make more noise than solids. It is loud enough for my husband to hear it. For me it has nothing to do with hunger at all, it just makes noise. The reality is I have gotten very used to it and don't even notice unless hubby starts chuckling, then I realize it is happening. It is not bothersome and not so loud that everyone can hear it, he just happens to be sitting next to me.
  20. For me, I absolutely wish I would have done this a lot sooner. I of course like others waited until I had many comorbidities. I am 51 now and wish I would have gone through the process in my 30s. I feel like I gave up so much of my youth with this disease. I had no real idea of how much better my life would be post surgery. As far as my child goes, if they were obese and they are not, I would support them in their choices. I don't think I would suggest it only because I feel like it takes a lot for a person to get to the point where they truly understand the damage. You have to get there yourself. For me it was a doctor telling me I was headed for kidney dialysis if I did not do something soon. Yes, I actually damaged my kidneys. The good news is in less than 5 short months all of my labs are normal. Why wouldn't I want to do this sooner?!
  21. I think everyone gets frustrated when you have one of those crappy stalls where u go back and forth. The important thing is to keep on fighting. Look how far you have come and how close to goal you are! You have done a fantastic job in such a short amount of time. Think back to before surgery how hard it was to drop the weight and how long it took. You just had surgery in November and you only have 41lbs to go. Don't give up now, it might be best to ignore the scale for a couple of weeks and stick to the food plan. Your stall will break and pounds will start to drop off again. I wish you the best, I know you can do this!
  22. I did go through that as well in the beginning. I finally decided to increase my exercise to help build stamina. For me it really worked and that tired feeling went away. I did have to ensure I drank my 30gram protein shake right before my work out. I do 20 minutes on an elliptical and 20 minutes on the treadmill. Sometimes I increase the time if I am feeling good enough. I started this at 6 weeks post op.
  23. Interesting, I take a beta blocker for the prevention of migraines. It is a low dose but I have noticed that it does not seem to be working as well as it once did. Also I excercise regularly and in the last few weeks I noticed that it is pretty easy to reach my target heart rate, as you know that is usually much harder to do on beta blockers. I have been wondering if my beta blocker is simply not as effective. I am getting migraines every other day but thought my cervical spine was actually making them worse. Now I wonder if my preventative is working. I will have to ask my doctor about that.
  24. You are likely entering your first of many stalls. I will tell you the weight coming off does slow down to a maybe a a pound of two a week. As long as things are moving in the right direction which it sounds like you are, that is a great thing. The most important thing is to get your Protein and Water in. If you are only getting 1/4 cup three times per day, you are likely not hitting your protein goal unless you are supplementing with Protein shakes. I am certain if your protein and water is where it should be, your weight will continue to drop, it will be more slowly than the first month.
  25. I definitely have this problem if I eat too fast, don't chew my food enough or take a pill (calcium) that is a little to big. Also if I gulp water and too much air gets in there with it.
