  1. @@Lebim, thanks for sharing your story. I too believe if you completely remove carbs from your diet, long term you might struggle. Having been on Atkins so many times in my life, I know that I have to be careful. To your point it is about once in a while and not every day every meal. And of course focus on good carbs. The best thing to do is track your food so you know exactly what you are putting in your body and can manage it a bit better. I wish you all the best in getting back on track. The good news is you have not given up. You can do this!
  2. I know this is easier said than done but try to focus on the excited piece. All of you have worked long and hard just to get to this point, try not to worry about the things that could happen because they really are more rare than you think. Focus on what it is going to be like when you start achieving your goals. It is such an exciting time and the surgery will be over before you know it. I have learned that staying positive actually helps in healing. I have had a lot of surgeries in my life. When you let the fear or frustration get to you, it takes much longer to heal.We all have a lot of work to do to shed these pounds and ultimately the hardest work will be keeping it off in the maintain phase. The surgery was a piece of cake for me personally and I have enjoyed every minute of this journey. I only wish I would have head to that operating room years ago! Good luck and well wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery for all of you that are about to have surgery in the coming days!
  3. I had the same problem which ended up pushing my surgery out a month longer than it needed to be. They held me up because the person responsible for submitting forms to insurance was on vacation and did not submit them like she was supposed to. When things seemed to drag on for a couple of weeks I got tired of waiting so I ended up calling them and explaining that my I was moving states and needed to get this surgery scheduled. As soon as I helped them understand my situation, I received a call from the scheduler stating the insurance company had just gotten back to them (within 24 hours) with an approval and she scheduled a date within 24 hours of that. I was very patient and very kind to them throughout the process knowing I would get more with a bit of sugar. It worked for me..... Had I not called to check in, my surgery likely would have been pushed out another month. My process took almost 9 months before I was in the operating room.
  4. I remember having this problem in the first couple of weeks as well. Those darn burps can really be uncomfortable. It does have everything to do with swallowing air. Mine definately got better over time.' Good luck!
  5. @@bellabloom, I am so sorry to hear you are having more complications! I hope you get well soon and stop getting the run around from your doctor. It is important that you have confidence in their ability and it is not sounding like this is the case. I will say a prayer for you! Keep us posted.
  6. I still struggle with this. I find I am eating too fast all the time but don't notice it until something gets stuck. I am waiting for the day I really do a number on myself. I try hard to pay attention to what I am doing but I hate when my food gets cold and I still eat so little that it simply goes down too fast. I guess the answer is practice, practice, practice!
  7. I am 4 months post op and can pretty much eat everything with the exception of eggs. My pouch simply does not like them nor do my taste buds. I am hoping that will change. I can eat sugar, bread, Pasta and rice but I STAY AWAY. For me pasta and sweets would definitely be a trigger food and although I have had a taste of a dessert here or there they are too sweet for me. I simply do not like sweets any more. (yeah for me!) Pasta I won't even try as that used to be my favorite meal and I always overate it. I have tried a fork full of rice here and there but really try to save the room in my pouch for Protein and vegetables. If I eat bread (for a sandwich) I simply will try a bite or two of whole grain bread and it satisfies me. If I ate much more than that, it would fill my pouch before I got my protein in and it does not stay with me.
  8. Definitely not true. As my surgeon said: a person can have one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel and they will still have to go through the required process that the insurance company requires. It all depends on the insurance company.
  9. I definitely have them but I know I am not getting enough sleep.
  10. I am 4 months post op and I do get hungry especially if I end up eating more carbs than I should. If i stick to a high Protein meal with good carbs (veggies), it keeps me fuller longer. If I do get hungry in-between meals I will actually drink a cup of fat free milk which fills me up until the next mean plus it gives me good protein. By the way, my hunger kicked in right after I started working out more vigorously. Also it takes very little to make that feeling go away.
  11. It is funny how different doctors tell you different things. I was told that both a Protein shake and milk actually turns to a solid once it hits your stomach. This is why they keep you fuller longer than Water. Milk is actually is great as a snack because it gives you great protein and keeps you full between meals. My team has told me to definitely use the 30/30 rule when drinking your Protein shakes and milk.
  12. @@Annek2014, I too cannot tolerate eggs of any kind. It really bums me out because I used to love them. I have tried scrambled, fried, hard boiled, egg salad, egg custard. I have tried mixing them with other things but in the end my pouch nor my tastebuds like them. I will usually have yogurt with high protein granola, or oatmeal made with high protein milk. I really struggle when we go out for breakfast and these items are not on the menu. Then I will try ham which I used to love and barely tolerate now. I also sometimes will eat cottage cheese with some sliced strawberries or banana.
  13. I have not had any complications from surgery at all. Of course I have had a lot of constipation from eating high protein, low carb diet. I would not call that a complication.
  14. My tail bone hurts constantly! I even purchased a pillow on Amazon.com and I take it everywhere with me. It provides a little relief. I never thought what would happen when I lost my fanny. Although I would definitely take that over being fat any day. Plus I read somewhere that your body will adjust.
  15. Lucky you! Congratulations!
  16. I am so sorry this is taking so long for you! I hope things get moving forward.
  17. Trust me, you are definitely not alone! It took me 9 months to get through a six month process. And I did not miss a single appointment along the way. Other people do not care as much as you do about how long a person has to wait. You have to be your own advocate, that is for sure. Good luck with the next steps!
  18. Congratulations! You look absolutely fabulous!
  19. This is such a great topic. That damn scale is the most frustrating! I weigh once per day and so far had only one stall. I believe I might have started my 2nd stall about a week ago. No matter how much I work out, get my Protein and Water that darn scale just won't move. No matter how much I tell myself not to get frustrated, I still do. Yet, every morning I get back on that stupid scale only to be told nothing is happening. Ugh! I know that if I just stay on track the stall will break and I will start losing again. I think I am ready to start weighing once a week. I am a positive person and do not need the damn scale bursting my bubble when I hit a stall. So, I am going to try like heck to stay off of it for a week and see what happens. The good news is, I had to go buy new pants again because mine are getting pretty saggy. I have moved from a size 26 to a size 16! I have not been in a 16 since I was in my twenties! What a fantastic goal to have met so soon! I like using clothing to measure my progress as opposed to the scale. They make me feel great!
  20. @@GingerDiane, I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery. I remember how excited I was on the day of my surgery. I have had many surgeries and this was the first time I was not even a tiny bit nervous. In fact it felt like Christmas morning when I was a kid and I was going to get a fabulous present. I hope you are recovering well so you can begin your new life. Congratulations!
  21. @@brinkie, I am so sorry to hear about your struggles. It sounds like you have been through the ringer but are ready to come out on the other side. I have a similiar situation, in fact I am headed to see a spine surgeon this morning. My cervical spine is so bad and I have been putting this off for many years. I have had spine surgery before so I know what I am in for with this. I am a fighter so hopefully I will bounce back quickly. Have you tried the pouch test? I believe it is called the 5 day pouch test. I have read about it and supposedly it helps to give you a fresh start. You can google it and see what you think. Good luck and I will say a prayer for you!
  22. Cream of wheat was one of the things I lived on for the first month.
  23. Congratulations on starting your new life. It is a very exciting time as you make the decision and start the process. It is even more exciting as you take your life back! Welcome to the boards, I have learned a lot from talking to folks on this site. Good luck on your approval and keep us posted!
  24. I was type 2 as well. I stopped taking my meds the night before surgery. Immediately following surgery my sugars started coming down. I am now 3.5 months post op. My fast sugar is consistently in the low 70s and I am usually in the low 80s 2 hours after a meal. It is truly amazing what happens post surgery. Good luck!
  25. I love the program for tracking food, exercise and weight. I pay no attention to that message. I actually think it's funny.
