ashemademe got a reaction from Bandista in 1 month since my band surgery
Hi Everyone! Just wanted to share, I am 1 month out since surgery and today I hit a total 30 pound lost. That's 20 pounds preops and 10 pounds since the band. I currently eat around 1200 calories a day and I do 2 (30min) workouts a day for 5 days a week.

I know the feeling.. I have not lost nor gained weight in 2 years now....but I continue to drop in clothing sizes...
I feel it has everything to do with "Body/Muscle Toning" from working out....
Next time I buy slacks they will be an inch smaller in the waist.....that will be a 32" waist, as opposed to a 46" elastic pre-band.

ashemademe reacted to CherieRyde in 2 weeks since surgery and not hungry
I'd go ahead with the first fill. My doc also does them once every 4 - 6 weeks. You may not be thinking about food as much now, but by the time you go in for your next fill, more food will be able to make it through the band. Especialy if you are eating Soup AND mushies.
I now have 3.5cc's in my band ..... and I think I should have waited a little longer for that last .5cc's. I'm supposed to see him again in December, and I'm *not* getting a fill then. Instead, I'll spend the rest of November and all of December on mostly mushies. If I'm still having issues when I see him again in January, then I'll have him remove that last .5cc's. So .. it's about listening to your body just as much as it's about following the rules. And now .. I'm rambling ....

I was not hungry at all until at least 6 weeks. I went ahead with my first fill. It was only 1cc, so it wasn't much restriction. My doctor only does fills every 4 -6 weeks so putting off the first would really slow progress. The "not hungry feeling" will go away for most people, so I would go ahead with the fill.

I think I may have went back to work too early. My biggest cut kinda hurts, mostly because I picked up a grocery bag. I know very stupid on my part. So far my hungry is not too bad. Between shakes and tuna or baked fish I get up to about 800 calories a day.

The pre-op diet taught me that without this surgery I could never loose weight and keep it off on my own....this diet was just like any other diet I have ever been on....if I could do this, then why go through surgery????
It only reinforced my decision that surgery was the avenue I needed to go if I am ever going to accomplish anything.

ashemademe reacted to CarmenLeAn in One year surgiversary last week
Hi all haven't been on much the last few weeks or so. Last week November 8th I had my lapband done. This year as just flown by. A lot of family stuff, husband working 70 odd hours a week just been busy.
Last year at this time I was 291lbs. Today I am down to 165. Five pounds away from my doctors goal weight for me. Ten from my personal goal.
I think I have finally hit the green zone. Didn't think that was going to happen.
My main reason for having this done was my daughter had a son. I wanted to see him grow up. I didn't want to be the fat grandma who couldn't play and chase and have fun with this beautiful child. I can do that now.
I went to an amusement park this year. Haven't been to one in 14 years. The 14 year olds that were with had to keep up. It was a great day.
I haven't been perfect, but who of us is. I have fallen and picked myself up and started again. Here in the last few months I haven't worked out much. I haven't made that a priority. I have to get back on that wagon. Don't enjoy so I don't want to do it, but I know I feel better if I do.
My doctor said I have exceeded his expectations. He was hoping for 100lb loss and when I surpassed that goal he set me another one. I have a great surgeon and team. They help to keep me going. Now that I have hit my year I have y barium swallow in a couple of weeks and back to the doc to see where we go from here. Usually after the first year he only sees you once every 3 months. That makes me nervous.
My cousin had bypass about 6 weeks after me. We are running the same weight wise, but she can hardly eat. Gets most her nutrition from shakes and such. She has also said if she had to do it again, she wouldn't. I don't regret my choice at all.
It's been an enlightening year. I hope next year and the years after continue to be. Thanks for listening fellow bandits.

I can honestly say up until I started my preops diet, I still had doubt about getting banned. The diet taught me that I am ready. I now realize I can make I off less food than I thought. Why was I so afraid of being hunger, after all hunger is in the head. I am on day 9 of preops and 15 pounds down. I learned that after the surgery, after the healing process when I can eat again. I can do this! I am ready mentally and that's the biggest part of being successful.

    Hi to all
Today mark a one year for me, It is been a challenge due to a knee surgery and unable to go to the gym, still I manage to keep most of the time eating healthy and drinking only Water, I still struggle sometimes with food, It is not easy because you see other people eat around you and you want to eat the same food, I just have one fill in a year because my band was prime and that was a advantage for me but now I am debating to have or not to have another fill, somedays I am very tight and another not I guess that happen to all of us sometimes, this is picture of me before and after, I am very in love with my band and I will do it all over again.

I felt the same way. I already posted about being afraid of being hungry. The pre op diet taught me that I can do this, that I'm capable of sticking to something. And it taught me how I can live and thrive on so much less food. I have always heard that you need x amount of calories to lose weight but the pre op diet flies in the face of this. Is it our bodies are using fat reserves? Have no idea.

I learned a lot from my pre-op diet. First of all, I learned that it's okay to be hungry. Like @@Leepers said, hunger is not an emergency. I don't have to feed myself the minute I first feel that twinge of hunger. If I need to, I can wait awhile. I also learned that hunger is often a signal that I'm thirsty rather than really being hungry and I can drink something and the feeling goes away. I also learned how to deal with cravings. Boy did I ever have some nasty cravings during those first couple of days of my pre-op diet. But ya know what? I learned that I don't have to give into them. I can wait it out and it will get better. Head hunger is something that I will always battle on some level, though it's much improved since being banded. But I CAN win the battle with the hungry monster!

To me, I found that hunger is just a sensation. Like when your neck hurts because you slept wrong. Hunger is not am emergency that needs to be immediately fed. I found that once I was able to control my response to hunger out became much easier to manage.
