  1. Wow! I am so sorry, this has happened. I know it all seems so overwhelming right now.. Try to take a deep breath and focus on it step by step... I know you came on here for more info, but maybe you would find better info if you did a google search on Lap Band complications or Lap Band Erosion complications. You may stumble across some medical paper write ups that could guid you with more info then we have... Hang in there. You are in my thoughts & prayers. You didn't deserve this at all. Life has a crappy way of inserting itself into our plans....
  2. Hi Fellow December Bandsters! I am officially in band land. Got my band yesterday & feeling GREAT! They also fixed my hiatal hernia.. I am so happy! I am already loving my band and having minimal pain & minimal gas!! I am taking my gas x strips though... I hope any of you yet to be banded can take comfort in the fact it was soooo much easier than I thought it would be... YEAH!! I have a band!! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! Best Xmas present ever!
  3. Hi, I know I got to the hospital for my surgery on 11/26/07 and had junky lungs from an upper respiratory infection & they sent me home. My new surgery date is 12/13. Not sure about a sore throat... Are you lungs clear? I assume a cold is starting? I would OD on airborne & hope for the best....Good luck, I know I was devastated when they sent me home.
  4. Hi, I am originally from Canyon Lake, California. But have been in Lilburn, Georgia for 3.5 years now.... so Lilburn, GA.
  5. Hi Lulu, Thanks for sharing your struggles... I was fat, then thin (HOT & SINGLE), and then after keeping it off for 6 years, got fat again... My real friends have loved me fat or thin and are supporting me on the road to being thin again... I do know the type of people you are describing & generally find them to be too self involved to ever be a good friend to anyone..... My advice (feel free not to take it, as each of us has our own happiness & truth); but, my unsolicited advice is to try to make some meaningful friends ones that you could be yourself with and call in your darkest moment. It isn't easy and usually takes time & a lot of effort, but if you become the type of friend you want in a friend you will be succesful over time. Good luck, my advice is to stay away from critical unsupporting environments during the holidays which can be challenging on their own... Tiffany
  6. Carol, I am so sorry you had to deal with this!!! I went in for surgery on 11/26/07 to have it canceled because I had gotten a respiratory infection and my lungs sounded junky.. Not the same as your situation, since they rescheduled mine for 12/13/07; but, I did have some of the same emotions you did.... Nurses not understanding why I was upset, jealous seeing other patients being wheeled away.. Angry, that I had done the diet & other pre-op prep to come away with a big fat NADA...Embarassment explaining to family & friends, that no they sent me home.. etc.. I am so very sorry!! I am so very proud of you for your attitude.. Try to keep your eye on the prize & let us know if we can help u.
  7. Wow! Thanks for sharing that. I was so upset I couldn't even come to this site for a few days....I thought I was the only one & that makes it always feel worse. Thanks for letting me know, I am not alone! :biggrin1:
  8. Hi, can you add me to the list for 12/13/07? My original date was 11/26/07 & got canceled after I got to the hospital, because I was fighting a upper respiratory infection & my lungs sounded cruddy!! I went home & cried the whole day.... My new date is 12/13/07
  9. I feel the same way... So strange, because I have had lots of surgery before. For some reason I guess I feel like this one is somewhat voluntary and think because of that something will go wrong??? It is really scray. I hate this feeling!
  10. Hi, I think that may be too good to be true with UHC. I have United Health Care POS Select and had to have a BMI greater than 40 with no co-morbidities. My BMI is 43, so I was approved for the surgery; but, when I read my health plan summarry document from my hubbys work it definitely said BMI higher than 40. My advice is to request a copy of the Health Plan Summary Doc that your employer should be able to get you, before you change insurances make sure you check it out carefully. Best of luck!
  11. Hi Everyone! I am in Lilburn GA & scheduled for surgery with Dr. Johnson & Atlanta Bariatrics on Monday, November 26, 2007... Look forward to getting to know all of you better!
  12. HI Everyone! I live in Lilburn, GA. Soon to be banded by Dr. Johnson with Atlanta Bariatrics & Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Surgery date is 11/26/07 & I am starting to get nervous now.... The whole thought of Surgery! Yikes! Looking forward to getting to know everyone better here...
  13. Hi, Add me to the list!! Monday, November 26, 2007! the day that will change my life!
  14. Hi Everyone, Just got back from the surgeons office & I have a surgery date!! I will be getting banded on Monday, November 26, 2007 with Atlanta Bariatrics at Emory Johns Creek Hospital!! Yeah! Yippee, I am so excited to get this process started!!! :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:
  15. Hi, I just wanted to say that you posted what I have been thinking to a Tee. I am even more complicated by the fact, I have lost 110 lbs before & kept it off for 5 years to have it come back on...So, I have really been struggling with needing a surgical option to help me. I am really feeling as though, I am a great weight loser! I just can't keep it off. This is that tool, I have been looking for my whole life... This is right for us. It is safe & there are tons of people on these boards that are a living testament to its success... Hang in there! I set my surgery date tomorrow so the countdown is on! Tiffany
  16. Hi, I never wrote a letter explaining the missing year (it was related to a move from CA to GA); but, instead I provided an additional previous year, ex.. instead of 2002 through 2007 I did 2001, 2002, 2003, skip 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.
  17. Hi, my surgeons office only requires a diet for those folks over a certain BMI threshold. I was under that threshold at a BMI of 43, so no pre-op diet for me.
  18. Hi, It was 10 days from submission to approval, another 7 days to actually receive the letter in the mail. :-)
  19. Hi Sandy! I too am in Georgia & having my surgery done by Dr. Johnson with Atlanta Bariatrics in Johns Creek. I see Dr. Johnson on Friday, so should be able to set my surgery date then. Let me know how you progress.. Tiffany
  20. Hi, I have essentially a very similar history & I submitted to United Health Care POS and I was approved! I haven't set my surgery date, but will do that on Friday 11-9-07! YEAH!
  21. Sandyray, Thanks for sharing valuable info for someone starting this process... I am going to be cheering on your comeback 100% here from Georgia!! The other ladies have some wonderful advice & info & encouragement. Please come here often for support....
  22. Thank you so much for sharing that info! I really appreciate it as I will think long & hard about how I contort my body after surgery, even if it is simple bending. I am sorry you had that bit of a set back, but you sound as though everything is going smoothly now. I hope we can keep in touch. Thanks again for replying & perhaps I will see you in the support group? I also will update all with my surgery date. Tiffany
  23. Hi, Did they do a fluoroscopy to make sure the band didn't slip? I haven't been banded yet, so excuse the ignorance; but, I thought it hurt if you ate too much? How did you manage to eat around it & any advice for someone like me who is afraid they would do that also?
  24. Hi.. Can you email what you did so I don't do it?? I have an appt with him on Friday 11-9-07 & will be scheduling surgery then. Also, how long were you in the hospital? Are you in their support group? I would like to belong to a support group, but I want it to be interactive, not seminar type setting & that is what it was like when I went to the 1 required support group they held....Any other words of wisdom? Now that it is getting closer I am nervous..
  25. Hi, What insurance do you have? All in all, I went for my info seminar in July. I had everything complete by the end of August, psych eval, weight history, pre-op labs & nutritionist appt. What too me so freaking long was getting a letter from my Primary Internal medicine doctoer. He took 2.5 months to write me my letter. I had to follow up & finally make an appointment to go in & discuss it with him. He was very negative telling me that anyone he had done a letter for had never been approved. Even people with Co-Morbidities. I don't really have any Co-Morbidities. But I have been Morbidly obese forever, and have had numerous documented weight loss attempts with my internal med doctor. I am not surprised I was approved, because I checked into my husbands benefit plan summary document through his work and found that it was a covered item as long as I had a history of morbid obesity = BMI>40 (mine is 43) I am 5'5" & 265. Good luck! Get your Plan Summary Document from your work (or hubbys work if benefits are through him). Read up on what is covered & what is excluded. I really like Dr. Johnson he seems great & the Emory Johns Creek hospital is GORGEOUS! Good luck. Feel free to email and ask me anything. I will answer if I know it :-) This is a great forum also.
