Mike4132 got a reaction from Chele Martines in Today is "overweight" day!
I just realized this morning that i have dropped under the "obese" range on the height and weight charts and am now only "overweight"! I never thought I'd be so happy to be considered overweight. ????
What an amazing thing a sleeve and 4 months can do!

Hello I am new to this site. Just wanted to put my story out there, in hopes of encouraging someone who is as big a chicken as I am. I went through the whole preop test, appointments, classes, physchological eval, EVERYTHING... two years ago. Insurance approved, was scheduled for surgery, then backed out. I just couldn't do it! I really worried about post op pain and getting back to feeling well.
Well, after I backed out. Things never got any better. I was so disgusted with myself. The weight was really getting to me, my back, my legs, my overall well being, so I decided to try again. I went to a different doctor and had to go through everything all over. Of course it took a lot of convincing to get my husband back on track. Well, I had a wonderful doctor. (Dr. Aaron Hoffman at Buffalo General Hospital) I am 9 days post op. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 4/9/15. Now I wonder why I waited so long. On my post op appointment 4/14/15 I asked Dr. Hoffman if I could hug him, and I did. So happy to start this journey and shed these unwanted pounds.

@@Butterfly512 I feel the exact same way. And you know what? The truth is you (and I) probably CAN "do it on our own". But you know what else? We would probably also gain it all back and then some. What is making the decision easier for me is knowing the facts - about 97% of people who lose weight with diet and exercise will gain it all back. We are more likely to keep MOST of the weight off long term with WLS. That is what seals the deal for me. Yes, I could eat healthy and exercise and slowly lose weight. But I have done that so many times and it has always ended in me gaining it all back and more. Its time for me to try something better. Something proven to have a higher success rate.

Obesity is a medical condition and Bariatric surgery is a treatment for it. No different from other diseases which some indivuals are able to control with less invasive measures while others need those measures. I elected to tell everyone and have only had positive responses.

It would have been nice to be able to do it on my own without the surgery. However, I approached my WLS with the attitude that everyone needs help with something and I needed it to help me lose weight.
Try not to beat yourself up that this is the "easy way out". There are plenty of people who seek medical attention for things they can't fix on their own and no one judges them. People use washing machines instead of hand washing clothes. Drive cars instead of walking, the list can go on...
I think if you hold your head high and act proud of your decision it makes it harder for people to make catty comments. I have only had one person ask me if I thought it was too extreme and why didn't I just exercise. I just replied that this was something me and my doctor felt was best for me and I do not question their healthcare decisions so don't question mine. That shut them up!!
Congratulations on your decision to take back your health!! WLS is a fabulous tool for the path to health. Best decision I have ever made and I make no excuses for it!!!

People I work with know about my surgery and now that I'm down 75 lbs I'm getting them same type of comments. (Don't lose too much weight.......you should stay right where you are now, etc.)
I'm still considered "obese" by all the height/weight charts and I've still got fat on me so I'm pressing on. Not that I really have a choice, the weight just keeps coming off!
It's weird how people behave when they see a change in someone. It's got to be related to seeing a difference in a short period of time because no one is going around telling other long term thin people these things.
I'm going with Kcos626's advice and giving them the finger from here on out.

This is my favorite guilt free snack that is loaded with Protein.< /p>
Mix 1 package of Sugar Free Chocolate pudding (or any flavor) with 2 cups Fairlife milk (it has double the protein of regular milk) until smooth.
Then add 5 scoops of Unjury plain Protein Powder and mix again.
Pour into Popsicle molds and freeze.
Each pop has about 13 grams of protein And they taste better than a fudgsicle in my opinion.
I use these Popsicle molds that I bought on Amazon and the recipe is perfect for 6 servings.

I could feel something was missing the first few weeks but now everything feels normal.
Immediately after surgery I could feel my entire stomach shift if I rolled on my right side while lying in bed. It was weird and uncomfortable so I usually stuffed a pillow there for support. I dont notice anything at all now and feel perfectly normal. I sometimes forget I even have a sleeve......until I start eating.

my thinking is you can't please everyone. I have been getting the looks and some comments myself the past few months and now its every wk from ones who are obese themselves..some has said "STOP" your getting to little! yet there's others who are not over weight are telling me to "keep it up" your looking great! ugh...there was a intersting comment I heard from a dr I can't remember where but it was recent and his comment was "some people in general has a distorted view on body image or size (weight or numbers) especially in the media bc of a certain group of skinny models..and so people are very judgemental now days on what each person "thinks is the JUST RIGHT size"....you need to decide for yourself and no one else where you want to be that is healthy. if ppl are used to seeing us as big, obese, overwheight or however the term is used when they see us shedding close to 100 pds plus it's going to shake them up or get them jealous or what have ya. I had some one asked me how far I was going down and I said "when my body see's fit to be balanced and happy it will stop on it's own and maintain"...2 of my gf's tell me you can't ever lose to much weight and laughed. it's hard on others to see us change but I decided I'll be the judge on what's enough for me and of course with the guidance of my surgeon which he has never set a certain amount to lose he has left that up to me. hope this helps ya..

I have the last of my six weight appointments on Monday, meet with the surgeon on Friday, and have my psych eval on the next Monday. Now that I made up my mind to do this, I just want to start! Anyone else feel like that?
I told my love that I didn't plan on hiding it but I wouldn't discuss it with people who don't love and support me. They have no idea why I am doing it and I don't feel the need to explain. That choice is pretty freeing.
I'm enjoying research mode and you all are awesome sharing your journeys.

I had my lapband surgery in 2010. I started at 250lbs and lost about a hundred pounds over the next year. After that i somehow very quickly lost a lot more weight and was down to 120 lbs. ( i am 5'6). I was no longer getting complimentary comments, all i was getting was " you're too skinny" " we are worried about you" and from not so nice people "you look like a crackhead". I myself was happy and loving it, and my doctor saw no issue with it. But hearing from others definitly puts thoughts into your head, and as a people pleaser myself, at the urging of my family, i had the band loosened. BIG MISTAKE! I quickly over 7 months put 60 pounds. I was unhappy, unmotivated and depressed. I went to see my doctor and he said its ultimately my decision and as long as im getting the proper nutrition, it shouldnt be a problem. I had it tightened a few days ago and am once again on the journey! My point being, dont let what others say bother you! As long as you are happy and know you are healthy, big middle finger up to all the haters! Good luck to you!

Woke up feeling paranoid and guilty as hell, convinced I gained weight overnight just by dreaming about junk food. There was nothing on my nightstand other than the sugar free Popsicle wrapper that was there when I fell asleep so there was no evidence of sleep walking but I still had to race to the scale to make sure.
And I was down a pound.....Take THAT vicious subconscious!!!
