Hi everyone. I was sleeved on October 8th and went home the next day. The surgery was not at all as bad as I had anticipated and I only took a non-narcotic pain med twice in the hospital. The gas was (is) uncomfortable but my tummy is getting softer each day and I am getting around very well. I am anxious for all of the swelling to go down though. I still feel pretty distended, but I had an abdominoplasty a few years ago and my surgeon had to pump me up with enough gas to get good visibility for this surgery.
I am getting in all of my liquids. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 days post op and am allowed to start Protein shakes, yogurt and puréed fruit today....yummy!!! I woke up at 5 am this morning craving something besides broth and crystal lite and made my first shake with puréed strawberries. It was absolutely delicious. I had no trouble getting it down in a million sips????. I have not weighed yet...am saving that for my first doctor's visit. I am 50 years old. I started at 239 lbs. 2 weeks before surgery, was 228 the morning of surgery and want to get down to 165. I am 5'9". I was in an anesthesia fog for 2 days but am pretty much back to normal now but still a bit tired and a little weak from no food. All in all, I think the hard part is behind me and I have set a new new life course to being healthy. Have had great loving support from my husband who is the most wonderful man in the world. Hope all of my fellow October sleevers are doing great too!!

    Hello fellow sleevers
I was sleeved October 1st so today is postop day 6 for me. My surgery went really well and I was not required to have a drain. My biggest issue postop was nausea, that was the worst. I was discharged the next morning in the am. Since then I have been doing fairly good. I have been totally off all pain meds since Saturday. I've been feeling a lil bloated the last few days, which make it a lil more difficult to get my fluids in, but with the help of gasx I'm doing ok. I had my first postop appt. today and my surgeon said I look more like I'm 3weeks postop and he's very happy with my progress. I feel very blessed that thus far I've been managing well and I thank god and my friends and family for all the many prayers and support.
I'm posting my early progress because I found that it was hard to find many people posting early progress reports, and this was an area that I was very interested in.
Please post so pre op sleevers can see what to expect from all stages.

Yes, JerzyTomato74 I was very well prepared, I read lots of posts on this web sight, looked at utube videos, looked up recipes and food suggestion for the upcoming plans and went to the support group that my doc offers. Everything I read prepared me for the many possible outcomes that could happen but nothing could really prepare me for my own person experience. I too like every1 else feel a lil head hunger but a few sips of my Protein and I'm too full to think of eating anything else.
I Can't think of anything I wished I had. I wore my outfit to the hospital that I was planning on going home in. Loose fitting stretch pants and a nice long roomy shirt and flip flops. I took some gas X strips as suggested but did not need until the next day home. Took my toothbrush, deodorant, iPad (didn't use), chapstick, robe/slippers...that's it, needed nothing else.

Lateese92 reacted to HumanMerelyBeing in True confessions of a 9 month out Sleever
Surgery was Feb 4th, 2014. I've lost 103 lbs. I am still "Obese." I've gone from a 24W to a 14P (sometimes 12) in dress size so far. I came off High Blood Pressure medication. My resting pulse rate went from 100 to 70 on average. I fit in seats everywhere I go. I walk and bike ride quite a bit, usually 4x per week. I have a lot of energy. I see a therapist. I try to stay positive.
    And...
I still feel like I am batting the daily demons. You know the ones: the demons that enjoy grazing, that don't drink 64 oz of Water every day, that enjoy carbs and occassional sweets, that track daily intake a little too sporadically, that constantly suggest, "Go ahead, you can get away with eating that."
I hate these demons. These are the same creatures I battled before surgery. Somehow I hoped it would be different or that the magic honeymoon period would have lasted longer. There are days I feel like I really haven't had surgery at all.
It's funny, because I remember doing my pre-op research and really focusing on the enormity of my decision. All the literature which said, "Gastric Sleeve is forever, completely irreversible, a major decision." No one EVER said, "Oh, by the way, despite having 75% of your stomach removed - 9 months from now you will feel extraordinarily normal and your appetite will return in similar force to what it always was and you will be able to eat quite a bit of most everything and you will have to engage in the daily battle to maintain a lifestyle diet, and you will have to restrict yourself with will power and a hundred mental tricks EVERY DAY."
    Sigh.
I am switching into sleever veteran status and I am very afraid. I am afraid that I will not be able to lose to a point where I am no longer listed as "Obese." I am afraid that I am back-sliding with my habits. I am afraid that I don't really have it in me to do the very difficult ongoing forever work that is now required of me. I'm afraid that my "tool" will lose it's effectiveness. And ultimately, I am afraid of failure.
    And that is my confession.

Just got my date 2 days ago. October 1st.. very nervous, seems everyone is more excited than me. Want to make sure I'm making the right decision but I've been wanting it for so long, now I'm not sure if it's the right thing. I'm so over thinking this.

Lateese92 reacted to AvaFern in What do you do about birthdays?
This might sound silly, but maybe invest in something for yourself that you can use on your next birthday. This time next year you will certainly be down quite a lot of weight and your sleeve will probably be tolerant of just about anything you want to eat, even if it's only a few bites. Is there a really nice place you'd like to go for dinner? Buy a gift certificate this year (make sure they don't lose money in a year- most shouldn't) put it somewhere you know where it is, and really look forward to all of the things you will have to Celebrate next year. Chances are, all the food that you're sad about not getting to eat on this birthday, won't matter as much next year. Even better than a dinner gift card, maybe buy a skydiving pass or a gift card to a designer clothes store you can't shop in now or even a trip to a place where you may not have felt comfortable going before. Save that for your birthday next year and you'll get to look forward to it all this year.
I only eat chocolate for my birthday and Christmas because otherwise I will eat way too much of it. Every year I would look forward to that time and ravenously inhale chocolate. This year, I'm far more looking forward to wearing my new dress to dinner with friends, than I am about the chocolate cake I was craving last year. I'm also not worried about trying new things anymore because I don't feel like everyone is looking at how fat I am. Now I walk into designer stores and I know that most things will fit me and that the salesgirl isn't wondering what I'm doing in her store. Not getting to Celebrate your birthday with food this year just means that you will get to celebrate it with anything else you would like next year!

Instead if making your special day about food, make it about you and your health! Go pick apples, see a play, go to a concert... Celebrations no longer center around what I'm going to stick in my face and they are much more memorable now.

I had my sleeve done on the 11/09/2014. I HATE anesthetic couldn't find a vein so gased me they had a terrible time when I woke up keeping the oxygen on (ie me pulling it out when the nurse went away) anyway I had little to almost no pain and the surgeon said my op went extremely well, so I was sent home 2 days later. I have to keep these silly operation socks on for 6 weeks but apart from that I haven't had any pain meds since the day I came home. I am now slowly starting to eat chicken and mash potato etc so am glad so this means I can go to work and not be noticed. My husband took me out for dinner twice since my op both times I had the waitor worrying that I hated the food for my size eating the amount I did for them seemed weird so I noticed a lot of looks from them which bothered me a little. I am down 10kg and my weight has stalled I'm not worried as I'm eating not alot and the doctor said it would stall. Now its just tackling the food demons in my head! Which I am winning for just now, I'm just looking forward to losing more weight and going into proper clothes shops! Share your stories xxxx

Actually - it's the other way around. The pre-op diet is too shrink your liver as it sits on top of the stomach and they have to retract it in order to perform the surgery. A large and brittle liver won't work. As for preparing you for small meals...you don't need to be prepared. Most of your stomach has
Been removed. You won't be hungry. I'm having a much easier time with hunger/nausea after the surgery than before. I'm not hungry at all and I'm amazed at how little I need to eat to feel okay. On the pre-op diet I was nauseas and fatigued. I'm only 6 days post op but I have more energy now than before on the pre-op diet and that is at about 700 calories/90 grams Protein. Just try to get through pre-op diet as best you can. Best to all!
