Another option would be to make chicken salad or tuna salad at the consistency you can eat it, pack it into 3 ounce portions, and bring that, some yogurt, applesauce, hummus, cottage cheese, and drinks in a small cooler with blue ice packs. I am headed to a dog show next week where I am facing the same dilemma - at an outdoors event all day for 2 days plus 2 travel days. I plan on eating out of my ice chest for the most part. So long as I have a choice of 4 or 5 things to eat with a couple of drink choices, I should be fine for food and be able to enjoy the event.

I also had a 3 day pre-op liquid diet, with the last day primarily clear fluids. When my husband had his VSG 3 years ago, he had to do muscle milk light 5 times a day plus Water for 3 weeks before his surgery. Every surgeon uses a protocol that works for them, and what they think you need.

Sharon Walls got a reaction from Jordan861 in secret surgery: what else can you tell someone if they ask?
The gastric sleeve surgery used to be the surgical treatment for stomach ulcers that refused to heal. My husband and my BFF girlfriend both know I had the surgery for bariatric reasons, and as far as everybody else is concerned I had the surgery due to unresolving stomach ulcers (which I actually do have a history of). It's really nobody else's business, and I don't want to hear any negative flack from the armchair quarterback gallery.

Had my 10 day post of exam yesterday. Incision and punctures are healing well. Still working at getting to goal on daily Protein and fluids, but consistently hitting 80% of goal. Both the nurse and dr said the regular walks are a big factor in how well I am healing and recovering. I went back to work (office job) at day 6 post op. Taking pain meds once a day, usually mid-day. The sitting at a computer uses my core muscles more than I was aware. Stairs are still my nemesis, but I think within a couple of weeks it will be okay again. Can't do any of the prepared Protein Shakes, but I can do the unflavored Isopure protein, so I am adding that into everything. I'm down 10 pounds from my surg date. So far, so good.

Thank you for this honest and candid peak into all of our futures.
My husband is now at the point where he will question what I am thinking or looking to buy or have. For that I am grateful. Having said that, I have treated myself twice now in 5 months. Both times I doubled my workouts for the week following the treat. I felt true guilt after those two times. I was again grateful.
See, before I had my surgery, I had had 8 years of therapy. So going into this life changing surgery for me was very different than what it is for a significant portion of wls community. I knew before hand that my evil side would always temp me, it would always nag me to choose the bad stuff. But what made this choice easy was that I knew it. It was imprinted into my being from my monthly therapy sessions. Part of me will always be a food addict, I've made peace with that.
So, as a result, my family just knows that I have banned certain things from entering our home. Forever. Some people say that's not fair. But what's not fair is me cheating myself by sneaking a chip or two...when in all reality, my family doesn't need to eat chips in the first place.
This May sum it up for my own journey up to this point..my 7 year old came home last week and said to me..mommy, why do none of the other parents of kids in my class care about what their kids eat like you do? They all have lunches packed with sugars and packaged stuff. None of them ever have a fruit or vegetable in its original form. It comes from one of the juice cups you don't buy us.
I felt proud in that single moment.
I also know that my journey is life long. Even when I reach my goal weight, I will have to forever be vigilant. My therapist reminds me each month and she does amazing work.

I was sleeved on the 16th. Stayed overnight in the hospital and was released the following evening. Dr. said it went textbook smooth, but I had a rough couple of hours when I was moved from Recovery to my room as it took 11 hits of morphine at 10 minute intervals before I finally got comfortable. Found out the hard way that stuff I could drink before surgery I can't take now. Protein Shakes now give me intensely painful gas - took several doses of Gas-X and 36 intensely painful hours to get that under control. I can do small doses of unflavored Protein Powder in my liquid diet, so that seems to be working. Have been walking 1/2 a mile a couple of times a day in addition to puttering around the house. Getting liquids in has been a challenge, but I am getting in close to 50 ounces a day in now. Jello and Kefir seem to be my 2 go-to foods that sit best right now. Been napping a lot. Am sleeping in a recliner, because if I go below a certain angle it feels more acidic/painful? First post-op visit is this Friday, but I don't advance past liquid foods until 21 days post op.

    I'm not "hiding" anything.
    No, I'm not embarrassed.
    No, it's not a "secret".
I *DID* do this on my own. Yes, I had surgery, but no one weighed and measured my food, tracked my intake, ran my miles, danced my Zumba, lifted my weights, swam my miles, or did any of the other work I had to do to lose 110+ pounds last year. My surgery was a tool, a really super awesome tool that I will be forever grateful for, but I lost the weight, no one did it for me.
Why have I not made my surgery public knowledge? Because it's none of anyone's business. I have so many more things about me that are *MUCH* more interesting than my surgery. I am a successful business owner with 300+ women on my team, I am a mom of two gifted teens who I am very proud of, I am a volunteer for a women's shelter, I am a martial arts training instructor, I have a pet hedgehog who is as cranky as they come, I can move both of my eyes independently of the other, I can sing songs in sign language, I hate getting dirty but I have a new love for doing mud runs, I am white Water certified in kayaking, I can do the splits in all three directions, I've been married to the same man for 20 years and haven't attempted murder yet, I have a wicked sense of humor and can insult you five ways to Sunday and you'll thank me for it without even realizing it.
I have no desire to explain (to people who really aren't truly interested) what a sleeve is, how it works, why they really don't know someone whose mother's best friend's cousin's neighbor's brother's wife's dentist died from this surgery/gained back all their weight/was malnourished/has seizures/never lost a pound/etc, nor do I care to explain my portion size, justify why I eat what I eat, answer the question "are you allowed to eat that" every time I put something in my mouth...
I don't talk about my pooping habits with the general public or my menstrual cycle, my gall bladder attack, why I used to pee when I sneezed, my IUD, my sore boobs during PMS, etc. I don't talk about the size of my hubby's package, how often we do the do, where we conceived our children, what we fight about when we fight, how much money I make, how much money he makes, my IQ, what brand of handbag I carry most often, or how much I spend on shoes annually, either.
    Any other questions?

I have a desk job and work from home so I am not the norm. I took a week off, but did do some work (about 4 hours a day) on my fourth day post-op. I had no complications and very little pain. I felt 100% like myself again (except no voracious appetite) by the end of the first week.

Hey everyone! I am new to this community!
I just went for my initial appointment on July 18th. I have started going for some of my doctor's appointments already and have most of my stuff planned out for what I want to do. My doctor said my surgery can be done in 3 months. But I know that it can take up to 6 months to get done. I'm looking for fellow Bariatric Surgery preferably Sleeve, that are in the beginning stages of appointments!
