Is it just me or does the rash of raves about GENEPRO Protein on this board lately sound very scripted? If you are shilling for the company you need to be open and above board. I have never tried the product and based on the red flags that go up when I read these "reviews" I won't be trying it. Does anyone else have a problem with this kind of covert marketing?

You can't control their reactions. You can only control your reaction to them. You know they are not particularly supportive, so don't expect any from them. Focus on the support you are getting from your dad, finance and other friends. And if your brother comes over to your house with a bag of candy you are fully able to tell hem to GTFO and to not eat it in front of you. Your house. Your rules. He can eat that crap in the car if it is triggering to you.

I think some of it may also be guilt if they know u are trying to change your life they may be feeling guilty/ resentful knowing what they are doing is not healthy it's possible they don't want to be reminded that they are overweight or unhealthy and if u change its a reminder to them if they don't support u they don't have to change what they are doing or even acknowledge that maybe they need to I had a similar thing happen when I quit smoking most people I knew smoked one very good friend did as well but had major lung problems so when we all gradually quit smoking she was extremely hostile angry nasty etc accused us of judging her and said we weren't going to pressure her into quitting etc we did no such thing I mean really? We all had smoked too where the heck would we have the right to say anything to anyone else that would have been crazy I did have one rule I wouldn't budge on tho no one could smoke in my house after I quit which is my right after all it's my house lol I'd never tell others what to do in the their homes though so just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward u don't have justify your decisions to anyone or make them feel better about unhealthy eating and they have no right to bully you or play games to try to change your mind

I have the same problem with my mom. When I told her my surgery date was set, she said she hoped I came to my senses before then. I politely informed her that an Ebola breakout would have to shut down the hospital for me to change my mind.
I am fortunate that my husband fully supports me as well as co workers...I teach in a school where three people have already had WLS and I'll be next! I am ready to move on with my life and let my mom see that this was the right decision.
I just pray hard that there is no complications so I don't have to hear the "I told you so"

thank goodness for your dad - and grandparents
    they are wonderful
being happy, loving and supportive for you
can't get much better than that??
I don't like to try and analyze why people act/feel the way they do
who knows why some people do what they do
what matters, is that you are happy for yourself
glad things in general are going well
fiance, daughter, home, car and job
it is easier said than done......"try" not to let anyones negative responses/feelings hurt you
you are on the way to a healthier, happier, longer life
    who deserves it more
    good luck with pending surgery
    speedy recovery

I work in an office too, I took 4 weeks off and glad I did. Even though I felt really pretty good after 7 days, I'm glad I took all that time because I got my "food intake" in order, did all my walking so my gas pains were all gone and when I returned to work 4 weeks later I was feeling GREAT!!!!!!!!! That's just about the time I got all my energy back and was about 20 lbs less!

I was told about 3 weeks before returning to my job I work at the front desk of a hotel. I did however hold off for a few extra weeks just because I had no energy whatsoever, but as long as you are able to get up and move around a bit while at work and you have the energy to do so 3 weeks minimum for office work.

listen to the nurse and surgeon they are only looking out for your best interest I would defiantly not travel if they said not to. I would go through with the surgery as planned in December then hold off for the 3 months because no one wants to get started on approval for surgery then be held back plus think of how much better you will feel and look when you do get to see your son. best of luck hope this helps

CAREFUL! Even though you are in liquid phase and can't do much damage with just fluids, you have little to no feeling in that area right now because all the nerves are severed. So the same queues that used to be there to tell you how full you really are, aren't there right now.
That being said, you really won't feel much restriction at all until you move into later puree or soft foods. Even most purees leave something to be desired and yes, that hunger feeling might sneak back up on you for a few weeks prior to moving over to soft foods.
Just be sure to let yourself heal fully before you test your new tummy too much.

Diva, I wouldn't listen to any surgeon telling you to not supplement yourself during healing phase of your surgery. Certainly not one that is disappointed with stellar weight loss like yours. For some of these guys, not all of them, it is a gimmick. Maybe they are used to people like me that had / have over 200lbs to lose at first and who drop it like bodies on the walking dead. Maybe your surgeon wants you to have to get a revision or something by trying to force you to eat everything rather than drink a little Protein. Do what feels right for you. I still supplement my intake with one premade shake a day just to be sure I get that good foundation in the morning hours of 30 grams of Protein. If I didn't, I would have to walk around with a feed bag on all the time to try and cram all of it in the old fashioned way and I don't really feel like going back to past grazing behaviors on the advice of the person that is supposed to be supporting me in my weight loss. Try attending some support meetings away from your doctor to see what other WLS patients are doing. Most of us, at least as early on as we are, still supplement our protein and for good reason.

Key words I noticed in your post - He said you CAN eat up to 1300 calories. That means, do not exceed 1300 calories, and I doubt he means on a regular basis. It is however, not that far off from most common goals that doctors set which is anywhere from 1000-1200 calories daily. The reason for this is simple, if you eat less than around a 1000 calories a day, your body starts to go into starvation mode and will refuse to burn fat because it is busy trying to store everything you put in it. The idea behind sleeve is to trick your body into feeling full with less food so that the normal metabolic process can go on burning calories and when it runs out, it pulls from your fat. If however, you body senses you are depriving it by say giving it only 500 calories, it will keep as much of that 500 calories as it can for things like breathing and well... living. If you are working out at least 30 minutes daily, you should be burning an extra 100-200 calories.
950 calories sounds fine if you are losing, but if you hit a stall, sometimes the only way to break it is to up your calories a bit so your body forgives you for partially starving it.
Here is the weight loss formula of your body at its particular weight.
You are currently at 222, I popped in an age of 35 for you because I don't know yours but with your height, scientifically speaking, if you sat there and stared into space and just breathed all day long. You would burn
1,780 calories/day*Just being alive and being yourself. Add in walking, cooking, standing, laughing, crying, sex, bathing etc.. and you can see you burn over 2,200 calories a day.
To lose a lb, a person has to create a calorie deficit of 3500 calories. Usually, people try and do this by cutting out 500 extra calories a day X7 days in a week. That equals a healthy lb of fat lost for a normal person. You however, at around 1000 calories a day ish, are doubling that deficit and will lose about 2.5 / 3 lbs a week excluding stalls or times where you aren't feeding yourself enough and your body starts latching on to everything.
Our bodies are built to do amazing things. Evil things, like... convert starches to sugar and to even break down our own bones when our blood Calcium levels get to low.
In summation, 1300 is a touch high for what most doctors recommend, unless you have other issues like diabetes or hypoglycemia where you need to regulate some sort of levels in your blood. It is however, only a touch high. If you are having trouble fitting in the calories like I was, my nutritionist and surgeon suggested using full fat / calorie cheeses because it is a healthy fat, or wholesome no sugar added Peanut Butter / nut spreads.

Yes very normal but it does change, probably in about 2 more weeks.... then your energy level will be ridiculous! You'll be like the energizer bunny. Good luck, stay positive, keep walking and drink that Protein and sips of Water -- very important!! and walk walk walk walk!

It takes at least a month to get over the fatigue. Even though it may not seem like it,because of the small incision sites, we just had MAJOR surgery, it takes a while for our bodies to recuperate. In the first few weeks, it's important to follow what your body tells you it needs. Once you are able to get in more Protein and fluids, it gets better quickly.

MrsSugarbabe reacted to joatsaint in How did you prepare yourself for surgery?
    1. You will be eating about 800 calories per day for weeks, you won't really need to prepare much food ahead of time. And my 1st 10 days post-op, I ate practically nothing - as in 1/2 popsicle per day. And starting the 2nd week and for weeks after, I was only eating about 3/4 can of cream of mushroom Soup per day.
    2.
    3. sugar free popsicles, any pain meds your doc may prescribe(ask ahead of time), broth (clear chicken broth). That's all I needed my 1st week.
    4. I drank EAS carb control chocolate shakes, but I've since found I like Premier Protein chocolate better.

    5. Start learning to eat with a teaspoon (that's about the size bites you'll need to take post-op) and learn not to drink 30 minutes before/with/ 30 minutes after a meal. And take teaspoon size sips when drinking. It will make it easier to eat without getting too full post-op.
Bonus: take your favorite pillow with you to the hospital. And put a colorful pillow case on it - to make it easy to find when packing to leave.

I had my final visit with the dietitian today and got my pre-op diet menu and the menu for the full liquid stage when I get home. Because I want to be ready to start the pre-op diet the moment my coordinator calls me with the approval (I'm taking first available slot!!) I have everything I need.
Since you are a few months out I'd be trying Protein powders. Find a few you like and don't buy a ton of one thing. But most of all work on the head game. Make peace with the issues that caused you to turn to food for comfort.

i am now 17 wks out and down 60 lbs, with 30 lbs to go until goal.
