My list of puree/soft foods is similar to some things listed above but included toast, my NUT appointment is tomorrow so I want to ask about that.
Any soft, non skinned vegetables that can be mashed up, fruit in juice already (preferably sugar free), sugar free pudding, greek yogurt, tuna, chicken salad, egg (egg salad), continue Protein shakes, refried Beans etc.
Thanksgivings looking like mashed sweet potatoes for me! The PA at the surgeon said please please dont try turkey even with gravy it is really dry and with my hernia repair as well she can almost promise me it would be a bad idea unless I want to blend it. Which I can not handle the texture of food pureed (not even creamy soups) needless to say the past two weeks with just Clear liquids have been straight broth and water/crystal light.

@@laurenella82 Lol that is a long time! No it wouldn't take that long to shrink your liver...I don't know why your surgeon has you doing it so long? I'm sure he/she has a good reason..maybe insurance requirements? Maybe they want to see how compliant you will be? Who knows Just kick that pre-ops butt and store the extra food savings for new clothes!

Funny how some people turned to blatant nastiness. Also funny how people think some of us are "diagnosing" another person. I don't recall doing that. I am however a therapist, and I have in fact studied eating disorders, and I do in fact know that it could point to a POSSIBLE (my exact word) eating disorder. If you don't want opinions, don't ask for them. And, as for me, I'm not an "EX FATTY" yet, but I'm really glad you feel comfortable shaming other people that you are just like (or used to be). I'm sure it's great being you. Name calling is something I'll leave to the middle schoolers. Have a beautiful day, I know I will - in spite of some that ooze negativity.

Agreed! I, too, had surgery so I could finally eat like a normal person. I did this so I WOULDNT have to diet ever again. In 11 months, I've not counted calories or weighed my food. My sleeve does it's part by limiting my portions and I do my part by making healthy choices....90% of the time. I stock my cupboards and refrigerator with healthy protein-heavy food options. I drink at least 64oz Water and eat 70-80g of Protein everyday. I snack on nuts, Jerky, fruits and veggies. But when I go out with friends I eat whatever looks good...just like everyone else. I had pizza last week (two pieces, not the whole thing). I Went to a fundraiser last Saturday and had 3 Crown and Water cocktails. Then the 5 other people I went with wanted to stop at McD's on the way home (drunk people do that ???? ). I split a quarter pounder with another gal (who, BTW, had bypass 8 years ago). No fries. No soda. BIG change from preop. I did, however, follow my doctor's plan 100% to a T before and after surgery. I was too afraid of complications not to. And I didn't start eating like a "normal" person until I reached goal about 7 months out. (And I've maintained for 4 months at this point). At your stage, you have to make smart choices and change your relationship with food (I'm now friends with food....no longer codependent with it). While you are still healing and so fresh out of surgery, you need to follow the rules, establish new habits to deal with stress, and learn how to deal with head hunger. You have the rest of your life to be "normal"...after you've done what you need to do to reach goal.

My program gave us a handbook at the first appointment. It's a loose-leaf notebook. I consider it my bible. It has each step broken down from pre to post op. I have 4 pages front and back on pureed food, including sample menus. In addition to the things mentioned Quaker Weight Control oatmeal and regular Cereal without nuts or dried fruit are allowed. It makes it easier to have this to refer to .

Preop 11/5 and surgery 11/19 for me! My PA asked me if I was sure I wanted to be on a post op liquid diet over thanksgiving....I told her if that mattered to me at all I wouldn't be going through all this. BRING IT ON!!! Oh and by the way, I'm also almost 8 weeks nicotine free! This journey finally gave me the motivation to quit smoking.

Yes, I am going in with eyes wide open and it is very scary.
I draw a parallel on this to childbirth. I remember as an expectant mother that other mothers, including recent ones all came up roses as well. When asked "how your delivery went?" Every single person said it went really well. For me it was the most horrible gruesome thing I had ever gone through and mine was a fairly normal delivery. Really well, is not what I would describe childbirth as. Yet, I would do it again. But I felt lied to by everyone, even my own mother, who probably was the most honest of the bunch. Everyone seems to think everything is wonderful and rosie. It is odd to me, as I am not wired that way. If you ask me I will tell you the truth. It will be a balance answer about pros, cons, and what the expect. After that experience I tend not to trust others assessments. I read between the lines and have to dig a hole to China for the truth.
I fear I may not be able to cope and that I will be miserable all the time more then anything else. But the alternative is just as bad. Obesity kills and robs you of the chance of having a normal life. So, I have to give it my best shot. It is a leap of faith into the great unknown but it is also a leap of HOPE, one that I do not possess in my current situation. I hope things will workout in the end just like having a baby. Mothers do die in childbirth, some have horrible complications but we all know it's worth it. Many before me had WLS and they ended up okay. Look at everyone on this site post surgery. They are real and their stories inform our futures. You can't grow (in our case shrink) unless you try.

I agree with some of the responses that were posted, but not all. I dont understand the individuals that have more of a judgmental response than a helpful one. No this is not ideal eating behavor after surgery, but what we must remember, is that no one gets to the point of surgery because they have good eating habits. Surgery only fixes the physical aspect of the stomach, not the psychological aspect that led you to this point. This is suppose to be a place where individuals feel comfortable to come to and be open and honest about what they are going through, and are able to receive support and guidance, not made to feel bad and judge. Did you ever consider that your negative remarks, may drive this person to continue more bad eating habits? Im sure she is not the only one that has gone through this, and I commend her on be able to come forth and admit whats going on, and seek help.

My 9th wedding anniversary is the 6th of August. The day before surgery. I'm hoping the hubby has big plans considering I can't eat. But... My big celebration will be on my 10th a year later. We're having a wedding /vow renewal with a big reception. I can't wait to look amazing I'm my dress! That's a big part of my motivation!
