DaisyOwl got a reaction from NuMe2014 in 5 days post-op - intense cramping when I drink anything
I had the same thing done. I was sleeved on July 29, along with hernia fixed & gallbladder removal. It was rough for about 2 solid weeks. But it's gotten much better since then. Where my old stomach was hurt the most!! I swore I thought I'd never get any better!!

DaisyOwl reacted to LindafromFlorida in Hiatal Hernia repair during sleeve surgery still painful on day 14
I am not sure how you know it is spasms from the hernia. My husband and I were both sleeved and had hiatal hernias repaired and no pain. Please call your surgeon's office and tell them your symptoms. There might be a medicine you should be on to stop the pain and spasms. I am so sorry you are feeling bad, but better to be safe about it. We pay these doctors lots of money. Call please. Feel better soon!

Hold on everyone! It gets better! I am 3.5 months out and have experienced almost all of the above. After about the first 4 weeks you will really start to feel normal again. Especially after you start eating regular food. (For me about 6-8 weeks) the cramping and spasms first days out are normal happened to me and my surgeon kept assuring me it would get better and it did. The "hard" spot under your incision is most likely the sutures they use underneath I had the same thing as well. And they dissolve. I doubted myself in those first couple if weeks but boy am I glad I did it. I am 70 lbs lighter now and fit into a size 10. All my weight related issues have gone away and life is great. Hang in there!!!! ❤️

It has taken me years to walk away from a hurtful person, including family, however some twins they hurt us the worst.
Are you staying up really late or do you just wake up for a little? I find they when I don't have a set time for bed I tend to look for food. Try putting yourself on a time schedule.

I love that all of you are doing so well, we have one heck of a hot "topic" here...lol....
I am on day 2 of liquid diet, and yesterday was horrid, I was so hungry, but I kept busy.
The bad part is, my kids noticed the freezer popsicles were melted, so I checked, and my whole fridge was warm....ughhhhhh.... .
I will tell you that it is not fun to rummage through food you CANT have, and try to figure out what is bad and what isn't....it was like a herroin attic bagging up the goods, but can't have it.......IT SUCKED!!!!!
    But I did it
Today has been so much easier, and I have had to mess with the kitchen stuff to get it all cleaned up today too....12 more days to go on this...(not counting today )
Just thought I would share my first day on liquids...
BIG (((HUGS))) to everyone...hope all is well!!!!!

Holy COW I'm hungry. Also, the shakes they have me on for Breakfast and lunch are AWFUL!
I need some tips for getting through this pre-op diet. I don't want to cheat. I just want to get through this without wanting to strangle my son for talking, or my husband for asking me to make dinner. LOL!

I can kind of see both sides, but sorry she's not more supportive. I took a look at your BMI, and you'd think she would be a little more concerned about your health (rather than her food selection) at almost 300 lbs. I don't know if maybe there is a way you guys could compromise, like she puts her treats in a locked/secured drawer in the fridge or cabinets so you couldn't access them?

I still remember my first post in this forum.it was something like,
Is this too easy? I'm really afraid since this is causing me no real adversity that I am going to fail at this.
Needless to say, I'm almost 11 weeks out & it is definately working, and I'm not a failure. I haven't had any real issues yet.

thank you all for posting this. I am tentatively scheduled for surgery the first week of may, and while I am not an emotional eater, I do wonder if I will *miss* any of my favorite foods. from all the sleevers in my family, they assure me I won't miss anything, because eventually I will be able to eat as I eat now...just in a more normal pattern, and I will get full off of smaller portions. I am praying this will be true for me. I am very close to two ladies who have been sleeved, and both eat very "normally". they get hungry, eat healthy, and stop when they are full. one good tip I have gotten is, "don't think the food is going away. it will still be there when you get hungry again. you don't have to eat it all. eat a little. when you get hungry again, eat a little more. don't worry--it wont disappear." I think that will help me out a lot, as I have always been taught to "always eat everything on your plate" growing up...a habit that has stuck with me WELL into adulthood!
I will definitely take in these suggestions. I have also decided to invest in these small spoons my local grocery sells. they are a bit smaller than the standard teaspoon (I think its a production defect hence them being so cheap). I can't imagine myself eating from a baby spoon while out...but these are actually small enough to leave me with way less food in my mouth but large enough to look "normal".
it's also great to hear everyones individual reaction to being full, pain, and the emotional and mental changes to surgery. keep them coming...this is an awesome post.

I had done a lot of research online and read a lot of books, so I felt I was prepared. But they didn't tell me I couldn't have even a sip of Water until the next day AFTER an upper GI to check for leaks in my sleeve. And the stuff they make you drink for that test tastes like old mop water!!! But it goes fast and then they gave me some apple juice and Jello.
I'm one month out from gastric sleeve, 35 lbs. gone, lost 5 inches in my hips, and 4 inches in my waist and boobage area. So don't forget to take your measurements. Clothes are finally beginning to feel pretty loose.
Another thing I recommend is to go through your closet and find all your smaller clothes and put them in size order, so the one day when your clothes are way too big you have access to what is the next lower size.
And for anyone preparing for surgery, the very best thing you can do for yourself is to get up and walk down the hall after surgery. They pump you full of a gas, and some of that is still in your body and will cause a pain in your left shoulder or as mine was, in the back left side of my shoulder blade. Pain meds do not help this, but walking will help those gas bubbles pop as your increase your circulation. I made 4 trips that afternoon and evening down the hall and by the time I went to bed that night, the pain was gone.
I will also say I had very little pain from my sleeve. I took pain meds while in the hospital, and then 2 the day I got home, the next day only 1 at bedtime, and that was all.
Some of us get a trigger that tells us when we are full. For me the first thing was kind of losing interest in what I was eating and the next thing was a hiccup. When you get a hiccup, put the spoon down and don't take another bite...it means you are full.
Another suggestion is to buy some baby spoons. They help you take smaller bites. I take only about 1/2 of a baby spoon with each bite.
    Good luck everyone.

    1. I wish I had broken up with food before surgery so that I didn't have to add it to the first month's difficult adjustments. Emotional basket case and food will NOT comfort.
    2. I wish I knew that the 1st month would be a physical and mental challenge. I was tired, stupid and emotional. I had previously believed I was the special snowflake who would recover like a rock star. I am not a special snowflake.
    3. I wish I knew that planning was ludicrous. My stomach is no longer a familiar beast. The shakes I liked would be gross on the flip side and my guts relentlessly reject my insistence that it behave as I expect it to.
    4. Post first week Constipation nearly killed me. I was entirely unprepared for this.
That said, best decision I ever made.
