johnsydney got a reaction from neyney75 in Band to Sleevers how many pounds did yu drop in the first 2 months ?
When did you get sleeved ? Do you have any links to the research on similar weight loss regardless of bougie size ? I'm worries that I'll be able to eat too much and regain weight. I do feel as though the sleeve has done something good to my brain ! I seem to have lost my sweet tooth and carb cravings and so far the weight loss has been good, so not complaining !

First off, I'll say that coffee saves lives every day. If I don't get coffee, someone will get hurt. When I first entered the program, I went from 4 cups of coffee down to now, just 1/4th of a cup a day. (golf clap for me!)
Here is the list of people I've asked about coffee so far:
3 people from the post-op support group who all said they now drink coffee 1 year post-op
the exercise physiologist who told me caffeine is her drug of choice and so she just asks that I quit pre-op
the nutritionist gave me some tips on post-op coffee: use truvia or liquid stevia and skim milk
cardiologist just asked me if it made my heart race (no.)
I'm all about following the rules and making healthy changes... but I also really, really love me some coffee.

First of all, it's normal to stall out at week 2-3 for a while. Second of all, you have lost weight overall since your surgery, correct? I am 6 weeks post-op as of today and down 17 pounds total. Is it frustrating to see others who lose like 40+ pounds in a month? Yes! But I am losing weight. I am sticking to all my nutritional guidelines. I am doing my approved exercise. I know I will eventually get to my goal. When I was upset about my "slow" loss last week, someone who has been at goal for over a year now told me she doesn't even remember how much weight she lost in these early weeks, because once you've been at goal for over a year, does it really matter how fast you got there? That really put things in perspective for me.
I had been treating this whole thing like my "diets" of old, where it always seemed like I was in a race to lose the weight as fast as possible. But VSG is forever. It's not a diet. You don't get to goal and then just be "done" with it. This is a lifelong journey, so if it takes me 12 months vs 6 months to get to goal, how much is that really going to matter in the grand scheme of things?

Break up with your scale. You're investing wayyyyyy too much in what it tells you on a daily basis. Pay attention to your body. You just had major surgery, give yourself a break and some time to heal. Throwing tantrums and pity parties won't make things better .. get tough, get strong and take control of yourself and be perseverant. Stalls won't last forever, although they can last for weeks. This is YOU throwing up your hands and assuming failure, it isn't the surgery that's failing.

Just ... no. No on many levels. I see that you haven't had your surgery yet so you haven't experienced the normal stall at week 2-3 post op.

Boy, that was dramatic. Maybe if you hurry, you can get your old stomach back.
Seriously ... in less than a month post-op you lost 15 pounds.
FYI, my surgery weight 8 weeks ago was 216. One month (30 days) later, I'd lost 10.4 pounds. And I was thrilled. Thrilled! I cannot remember (decades ago?) the last time I lost 10.4 pounds in 30 days.
Also consider this: About a month ago, I gained four pounds in two days. And then two days after that I stepped on the scales and had suddenly lost 8 pounds, for a net loss of four pounds in four days. It's not typical. But it happens.
I would suggest that with the purees you've taken in some salt and maybe also have some Constipation that's causing a temporary weight gain.
Don't go off the deep end every time you get on the scales and see they've gone up or haven't gone down--especially if you're eating/drinking what's recommended by your surgeon.
Give yourself a break and appreciate that you / we will NOT lose our overweight in a straight downward path.
(Also google "three week stall" if you don't know about that. Happens to almost everyone.)

johnsydney got a reaction from LadyPullings in Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
My BMI was 33 on the day of surgery. Currently down to a BMI of 29. My surgery was 7 weeks ago. Total lost so far is about 15kg / 33lbs. Was hoping to have lost more than this but am still happy with my progress so far.
I also feel as though I haven't had surgery. Have no problems at all. Can eat / drink anything just in smaller quantities and I generally feel less hungry :-)

I've also never had that 'oops I've have one spoonful too much feeling' either. Just get the feeling that what I've eaten is backed up to the bottom of my throat so I should probably stop. Anyone else similar to me ?

My sleeve is about 250ml think that's about 8/9oz in US. I am on soft stage at present, I am worried that I can eat a little more than that though. Everything tastes the same to me as before surgery. I can tolerate any Protein Drinks, Vitamins, any food as long as it's soft, haven't tried anything that isn't soft yet. Can drink heaps of fluids without any feelings of restriction pressure. From what I've read my experience appears to be much more plain sailing than many others, I'm just worried it's all a bit too easy and I'm getting too much in given that I'm only four weeks out and my sleeve will relax a bit more and make it easier to eat / drink. Does the game really change when you get to solids ? I wish I could only get sips of fluids in and a couple of spoons of food :-(

Right after surgery for the first week or so, while I was on liquids, I honestly thought the Dr did nothing to my stomach and I questioned if I'd ever feel restriction? The answer is YES. I can only eat a few bites and I'm really full. It's quite the difference!

Just like a pro football player thanking god for a touchdown. It's silly and illogical, and if there were such a god, would he have nothing better to do than deliver touchdowns (or Oscars, etc.)?

I agree. There are medical/biological reasons beyond our control regarding why most people are unable to lose weight without the medical intervention of WLS, but it's all our own willpower and drive that allows us to make the decision to finally have it done, and it's thanks to our surgeons and ourselves that we're successful. Thanking God absolves you of any stake in your own wellbeing and doesn't give credit where credit is do. (Of course some people say "Thanks God!" rhetorically, but that's clearly different.)

johnsydney got a reaction from m4nurse in August post op sleevers: Check in
Hi all, I'm 6 weeks post op now, went band to sleeve on the 12th of August. Lost 30lbs, was 244lb on day of op, today I'm 214lb. Stalled for a few weeks, scales just moved again yesterday. Eating more than I thought I would be able to at about a cup per meal of any type of food. Can drink right before eating with no issue. Not really feeling hunger, no pain / gas / reflux. Exercising daily, feeling a little tired at times but I guess that's to be expected, I'm hoping it won't last long, otherwise all is good :-)

The VSG is usually the first stage to DS, I was told by one gal she can eat whatever she wants, usually over 3000 calories a day since she doesn't absorb a lot. To me that seems unhealthy. Could it be what is being eaten?

I went band to sleeve in the same op. Band was in for 10 years. Pretty difficult to get out, operation took twice as long as expected. Woke up after the op, felt groggy for a few hours then all was well. No pain, no gas, no complications, felt good enough to go home on the same day ! Was asked to stay in for 2 days for observations, which were all normal. Almost 4 weeks out now and the whole thing has been an absolute breeze so far. I've lost about 26lb. Not feeling hungry, bit of head hunger at times. Far better to have the band removed and sleeve done in one operation. if your surgeon thinks it's safe to do so, then you only have 1 hospital stay and one operation to recover from ! Obviously if your surgeon things it may not be a good idea once he has a look in there then best to wait. For me no regrets, wish I'd have done this years ago. Good luck :-)

Before I was banded I'd eat something and then want to have something else. Now sometimes my brain wants to do that. We call this head hunger. The difference post-banding is that I am able (easily) to just switch out of that mode. Physically I could have more food (then wait and go have more food, wait, have more food) but mentally I don't want to. That craving for more is gone so now I just stop. Hope that helps!
