  1. I was wondering about the flavored ones but I notice they are made with sugar so I bought the plain instead. I definitely like it made with milk!
  2. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I've tried a little unsweetened applesauce and it was ok but I'm trying to find more ideas to give it some flavor.
  3. My husband and I both decided to have the surgery but we have a 1 year old daughter so we couldn't both be out of commission at the same time. We decided I would go first just because I don't work outside our home and it would be easier for him to take the time off work after the first of the year. I just had my surgery on 10/29 and he will be having his on 1/26. He has taken a week off to help me and it has been great having that support during recovery. He's been able to take me places just to get out of the house and to/from my post-op appointment. Check with your surgeon what your post-op restrictions may be. Mine said that I cannot drive for 14 days, no lifting more than 10 lbs for 14 days, no stair climbing more than 12 steps per day. If DH and I were both under these restrictions at the same time, it would be hard to do if we didn't have additional help. You're both going to be having a follow-up appointment post-op so make sure you will be able to have someone drive you both and if you have your laundry on another floor (i.e. basement) that may be off limits for a about a week post-op. All surgeons instructions are different so if you can get an idea what kind yours is going to have it may help you prepare. Good luck to you both!!!
  4. It's important that you let your surgeon know because ibuprofen has blood thinning properties and this could increase your risk of complications during surgery. They will probably be giving you a blood thinner just before your surgery which could make it even worse.
  5. I hate artificial sweeteners but for the sake of my post-op diet, I added them in. Once I get a couple months out I plan on doing a juice cleanse. After that, no more artificial or processed anything!
  6. I agree about the walking! I didn't have any gas pain in the hospital but I did once I was home. Walking for just a couple minutes around the house did the trick.
  7. I thought the same thing initially and my first night home was almost in tears wondering what I did to myself. At 6 days post-op, I no longer had pain each time I got up. Yesterday, 7 days post-op, I didn't need my pain meds at all! So believe me when I say, each day gets better!!! Keep your chin up and know that better days are ahead!
  8. My surgeon's instructions say I need to stay on chewables for a minimum of 12 weeks post-op before switching back to solid pills.
  9. I think at some point I want to be completely free of all sugar substitutes. I've never been a big Breakfast eater so my plan when I get a month or two out, have Protein shakes as my breakfast every day using unflavored Protein powder and add yogurt, fruit, etc. to it to flavor it up. At some point I want to try and do a juice cleanse maybe 6 months out.
  10. I was constipated as well and yesterday I got the all clear to take a Colace (or Miralax). My surgeon said a stool softener as opposed to a laxative is more gentle at this point and that MOM and Dulcolax would be too harsh on the new stomach because they are stimulants.
  11. I'm week 2 post-op and Cream of Wheat is on my approved foods for the full liquid stage. Every surgeon has different criteria so if you're not sure, just give them a call.
  12. I would check with your surgeon only because each one has their own specific instructions. I was not allowed to add Protein until week 2 and even that it's one Protein Drink (30 g) a day.
  13. Are you supposed to be taking solid pills this early? Most instructions are for chewable multi and Calcium. I like the Celebrate brand. I didn't care for Bariatric Advantage chocolate chews but the caramel is good. There are also liquid brand Vitamins like Wellesse I've heard good things about.
  14. I will be just getting to the pureed stage the week of Thanksgiving. I just cannot eat any meat that has been pureed. I plan on adding Protein powder to my mashed potatoes and saving some turkey for the following week when I'll be on soft foods.
  15. That's interesting and am curious myself. My surgeon is keeping me on full liquids for two weeks as opposed to one. He explained that the extra week is for additional healing time. This is fine with me because I certainly do not want to rush it!
  16. Everyone hits a stall in weight loss but don't let it get you down! Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint! Even on regular diets we hit stalls. It's our bodies way of saying, "hold up, what are you doing to me?" You will get back on track, believe me! I agree with other posters though, your caloric intake should be around 800 and 80-90 grams of Protein.
  17. Looks good! You're getting the amount of Protein needed. Maybe have a higher calorie snack? A 100 calorie yogurt?
  18. I wouldn't start the next phase until your doctor gives you the all clear to do so. pizza? Clearly not everyone takes this surgery and the process seriously.
  19. One thing I learned years ago during the low-carb craze when I started reading labels was in the low-fat, no-fat, fat free foods they tend to have a higher sugar content. The other thing to keep in mind is that all those low-fat labels look good but those are all processed foods (even milk). I'll stick to the full fat on certain items like cheese and sour cream since those are things I only use in small amounts anyway.
  20. I have been doing the same thing last night and tonight and finding some really good ideas! It's no wonder at 6 days post-op I was starving today! LOL
  21. This is so funny, I was thinking the same thing today! LOL I made DD a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch today and she only ate half. Boy, was I eyeing the uneaten half!!! I have my 1 week follow up tomorrow so I'm hoping to be able to start full liquids tomorrow or Wednesday. I am going to devour some Cream of Wheat!!! LOL
  22. Mine has growled a couple times. I'm 6 days post-op and today I felt really hungry. I have my follow-up with my surgeon tomorrow so I plan on bringing it up.
  23. Smoothies w/ plain yogurt or protein powder (make sure there are no chunks) Vegetable juice Milk SF Carnation Breakfast Cream of Wheat Yogurt
  24. Yes, I used mine every time I slept in the hospital and had no problems with gas from it. Be sure to check with your doctor if you are unsure about bringing it. Most surgeons will not perform the surgery if you do not bring your CPAP to the hospital with you.
  25. If you're having problems on certain meds, they might be able to change them. Any kind of scrunching of our tummy's right now is going to hurt. That includes getting up and down and the wretching as well. Have you asked about changes in meds? Maybe you need something stronger? I didn't feel cold until I was home. They kept my hospital room so warm and I actually got too warm and asked them to turn it down. Now that I'm home, I am more chilly than I was before surgery. I promise each day gets better! Hang in there!
