    Good bye to fast food

I've been having a food funeral for the past two days. LOL Starting my pre-op diet on Wednesday so I might as well enjoy a couple days of my favorite things before I say goodbye for good!

    Oct 29th!

Yes, this Wednesday. Are you excited, nervous or all of the above? I'm glad I'm doing it before Halloween so I don't gorge on candy but I am kinda bummed to miss out on one last Thanksgiving feast! Ha ha! We'll be one month out by then so I might be able to get a little bit of turkey down!
  3. I had an endoscopy to check for any polyps or gastric issues and later this week I go for blood work, ekg and chest x-ray. These are all required by my surgeon for all his WLS patients If you do not currently have sleep apnea I would ask about having a sleep study. This is also a requirement by my surgeon but since I already have sleep apnea and am on a c-pap, I didn't need to have one done.

Me!!! Starting my pre-op diet on Wednesday!
  5. No, I'm actually an Eagles fan and I live with a Cardinals fan. Not going to be pretty in this house in a couple weeks! LOL
  6. I feel the same way about aspartame and I never took to splenda. I've noticed lately that some labels say "aspartame free" and more and more products are containing stevia instead. GNC has a Protein powder I recently tried called Puredge Complete Protein. It's just a little too sweet for me. I keep liquid stevia on hand to add to unflavored foods and drinks.

I know what you are going through. My family and friends had a "fat" "Going away party" for me the Saturday before my surgery. Everywhere I went I would say why not I won't be here again. Lol don't beat yourself up over this you can do it.

  9. Packerfan, huh? I won't hold that against you! I'm having my surgery on 10/29, the day before you! I have support at home but would definitely like to have some surgery buddies!

    Juicing on pre-op diet?

The soup would be a good opportunity to add unflavored Protein powder, same with the Jello. I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday but I only have to have two Protein shakes a day and a 300 calorie dinner with a salad and FF dressing. I will savor that meal every darn day I have to be on this diet! LOL I find that if I stay busy, I don't think about food. There have been many times where I get started with something like cleaning the house or a project and can go half the day without eating or even thinking about food. Drink Water before you eat/drink your shakes so it helps to make you feel fuller. Good luck and just know that it won't last forever! I say that as I remind myself of the same thing!

    Juicing on pre-op diet?

I would double check with your surgeon but my pre-surgery diet instructions aren't specific to the brand of powder I have to use. It just says that it has to be 20-25 grams of Protein, low carb and around 220 calories with skim milk OR 12 oz of Isopure RTD.

1st NUT appt. What can I expect?

My first NUT appt lasted about an hour. We discussed my eating habits, what kinds of things I've done in the past to lose weight and she came up with a sample meal plan for me to follow. She was big into label reading so she discussed this a lot. I also had to commit to making one dietary change before my next appt. In my case, I committed to switch from whole milk to 2% milk. She gave me some Protein powder and Calcium chews samples. If your NUT doesn't offer you any samples, ask if they have any to give you. My NUT had a whole basket full of samples on her desk and she always gave 2-3 to all her patients. I also had to start a food diary which I had to bring to each appt for her to look at and she'd offer suggestions on where I could make changes. She was very educated on the post surgery diet as well and was able to walk me through the post-op diet step by step as well as the Vitamin regimen I'll start in week 3.

    Last meal

I'm planning on sticking to my 2 week pre-op diet, which I start on 10/15, but on 10/14 I am having DH make me his spaghetti and meatballs as my last real meal!

    Endoscopy

I don't think it has anything to do with your health issues because the surgeons around here do it with all their wls patients. I think it's more common for gastric bypass patients than sleeve patients but I was happy to do it to make sure I didn't have any existing gastric issues. It turned out that I have a mild case of gastritis and gastroparesis. I don't suffer any of the symptoms associated with these issues right now but had I not had the endo, I would not have known about them and be able to start taking precautions before they become worse.

New to site, 8 days post-op NZ

I agree with Lateese92, 8 days sounds way too early to be eating those kinds of foods. My post surgery diet for week 1 is clear liquids only, week 2 is full liquids only, week 3 is pureed foods and week 4 is mushy foods. What are your doctor's instructions for diet? Have you tried unflavored Protein powder? You can add that to pureed Soups or broth and Jello. Also, how are you doing with getting Water in?

    Endoscopy

I'm pretty sure everyone does. The surgeon needs to make sure you have no issues in your upper GI tract and will check for any polyps or digestive issues. This is important so if there are any problems they can be addressed. I just had mine today and it was a piece of cake! It lasted about 15-20 minutes and I was knocked out the whole time. When I woke up my throat was a little scratchy and as the day went on my throat got sore but eating some sorbet helped a lot!

What to expect postop day 6

Thank you for posting your post-op status! I have a hard time finding those kinds of posts also and am very interested. Looking back, do you think you were well prepared now that you've had your surgery? Did you find something that you didn't think of beforehand that you wished you had?
  19. So I went in for my Endoscopy this morning and prior to it my surgeon told me if there were any problems he would see me afterward but if not he would see me at my next appt. So while I was recovering the nurse told me that there weren't any major concerns but that I do have mild gastritis and gastroparesis. Huh? Never heard of that one! So, I came home and Googled it. I don't suffer from any symptoms. I'm not freaking out over it since my Dr didn't come talk to me about it afterward but how concerning is this really? Will the surgery cure this?
  20. Endoscopy in the morning. Officially 3 weeks away from surgery!

    Isopure

Ok, I ended up ordering the Isopure variety pack from Luckyvitamin.com ($46.30). They have free shipping on orders over $49 so I added a couple packets of Biochem whey Protein powder ($1.99 ea). Considering GNC wants to charge almost $18 to ship and it appears you can only get the variety pack online, I think this was a good deal!
  22. I am not going to miss avoiding sporting events, concerts or shows because I can't fit or sit comfortably in the seats. I am not going to miss shopping for plus size clothes and I am definitely not going to miss hiding in my house during the summer!!!

    Protein powder Sample suggestions?

I got samples from my NUT as well as a health food store near me. Some were free and some were around $1.50-2.50 ea. I just ordered the variety pack sampler of Syntrax Nectars from Bariatricliving.com. I like the samples because it's a good way of seeing the consistency of different brands. Your tastes may change post-op but consistency is important. They're also good to have during your pre-op diet for some variety! whey Factors is a good brand. The chocolate isn't overly sweet which I liked. The Protein content isn't as high as others but added to milk it will get you where you need to be. Good luck!

    Isopure

I'm getting ready to buy a variety pack of the big bottles from GNC. You get two bottles of each flavor, 12 bottles in all. It's on sale for $49.99 or $44.99 if you have their Gold card. This comes out to $3.75 per bottle. I mainly want these for my first post-op week as a way to get Protein in my clear liquid phase. If I don't drink them all, DH will be able to use them when he has his surgery. I got a tip from a You Tube video that if you can't stand the taste of them, add Water and a packet of Crystal Light of the same flavor.

    Isopure

I'm planning on ordering the variety pack of Isopure RTD from GNC which will be a total of 12 bottles. I'm going to want some Protein during my first post-op week. DH is having his surgery in January so whatever I don't use, he will. I got a tip on a You Tube video that if you can't stand the taste of it, add some Water and a packet of Crystal Light of the same flavor.
