Post op & eating in public!

I will be 1 year out in a week!! I have no problem eating out because most of the people know about my sleeve so they get used to seeing me wasted a lot of food in my plate lol. My problem is I eat slowwwwly, my surgeon encouraged me to eat more and I take at least 45 minutes to eat 1/3 of a normal dish. Once I went to a party and found myself still nibbling on my dinner while everyone already moved on to dessert. Feeling a bit weird like the old days but different reason lol.
  2. At first my surgeon set the goal weight for me (according to the BMI under 25) to 110 lbs but after 6 months check up I was at 132 lbs and he decided I don't have to go down to 110 anymore because he said my body now is in 'normal' shape. So he told me to lose until 130-125 lbs and it should be enough. He said he doesn't want me to be too skinny (which might make me sick again). Now when I'm only 1 lbs away from my new goal weight, I don't care much about losing anymore. Actually it's been a while that I feel this way because since a few months I've been in the size M clothes, now I fit in XS - size 4 but I'm more comfortble in size S. I don't want to look skinny!!! I only want to look strong and fit. Luckily, I don't have a lot of saggy skin, just around the inner thights and upper arms, so now I only exercise to work on muscles and my skin, not to lose more weight or sizes. Though the exercises might make me lose more, I think my true goal weight must be around 110-120 lbs.
  3. Just noticed that I lost more than a 100 lbs already!! and 1more to reach my goal weight!!!

    NSV shout outs

My favourite thread, always happy reading all NSVs congrats you all!
  5. Oh yeah, you need to stop losing weight!! That's another one.
  6. Indeed I heard some of those, not yet N° 4, 5, 8, 9,10. Others words are "I and the gils think now you lose too much!! You exercise too much" this came from the group of friends with normal BMI and neer had to exercise to control ther weight. I told them that my body looks probably 'normal' for them but my BMI still stays over weight. I exercise 5 days a week but only for 1 hour (Ok except Wednesday and Sunday I attend 2 classes tht makes 7 hours a week).

How did you determine your "goal weight"?

Before the surgery my doctor gave me 110 lbs as my goal weight (by calculating the BMI) after meeting with him today after 7 months post-op he changed my goal to 125 lbs which surprised me. He said because my body size already looks "normal" if I can lose 11-16 lbs, my BMI will be 25 which should be ok. He doesn't want me to be too skinny which may cause me sickness.

    Keep getting sick... Feedback needed!

Do you exercise regularly? I'm a lot more healthy since the surgery. I had a terrible cold once in the past 7 months and recovered two days later. Before I got sick every season and took me a week to recover. Although I do get cold easily so I keep myself warm at all time and exercise 7 hours per week. Maybe that's why I don't catch a cold that often anymore.

The Rules: Do you follow them?

My doctors rules are simple: No carbonation No candies Drink Water 15-30 minutes before and after meals (1.5 liter/ day) Take 45 minutes to eat a meal Eat a bit of everything in a small portion 4 meals a day Eat at fixed hour for each meal So yes I follow them all and I added some more on my own like exercises, no carb at dinner (not always but I cannot eat too much carbs anymore my body doesn't react well with wheat) I'm just 7 months out but the rules became my habit already so I don't feel that I'm struggling to follow them. My restriction is still good so I cannot eat bigger portion even when I wish I could lol and if I don't chew well hmm I'll pay the price for that :-( it sure do happen from time to time.

Has weight loss/surgery turned me crazy?

Come to think of it, it's true that a few weeks after surgery I was quite cranky but who wouldn't be? You just had a major surgery, you're getting used to your new stomach your new habit, you're stressful most of the time because you're nervous that you might do everything wrong. You didn't get enough protein, you didn't enough water. then you hit stall, your hair started to fall, you didn't know how to join the big dinner, you're worried how to eat out with people, you didn't know how to tell people at work etc etc. It will pass when you're settled with all new things, you will gain more confidence and you will (eventually) be at peace. Today I chatted briefly with a colleague, she was surprised with my transformation and asked how I did and I just simply told her tha "I had a surgery", just simpe as that. And she just replied, good for you! A couple of months ago I'd probably just smile and tell her I was on a diet but at this moment I feel more confident to tell people a simple truth. I stil don't tell everyone though, but I am now more open about my surgery, I only tell who I feel like I want to, some of them (like this colleague) I'm not even close with. I just know that they're open-minded enough.
  16. I weigh daily and note down in my weight lost journal (someday with the meals, water, exercises or activity) for reference to learn about the circle of my body. It helps me not to freak out when II hit the stall which happen every 2 months each time around 10 days). After 5 months post-op I increased the hours of the exercise from 6 hours/week to 8 hours/week and the scale continued to move down smoothly.

So THIS happened the other day. Me and my big mouth.

I think this person really lacks of interpersonal skills, she obviously has no clue how to talk to people. I also have a feeling that some skinny girls have difficulty to be around big people, not sure if they're afraid to be infected by fat or they feel that we might naturally feel offended by their thin body. I guess I need to do a research on that lol.

29 year old ladies - skin bounce back?

Since surgery I put the hell lot of body cream (I use up 200 ml of cream per month) and exfoliate once a week and hope that could help. I've lost 78 lbs (almost 6 months out) but still my inner tights got saggy, they don't look so bad though, and my armpits skin looks like the turkey's neck ughh... I guess it's inevitable and just hope they will get better with time & exercises. However, I still have 40 lbs more to lose, I will just have to keep moisturizing and pray for the skin of my belly, my arms and my bums! lol I'm 42 by the way, I wish you all the best for your weight lost and bouncing skin.

    Alcohol is amazing

I had a sip of White wine at a Christmas lunch and a sip of Pino last night. I usually never drink much pre-op anyway but it's great to have a sip like that hehe.

6 months post op on Jan 2.

Happy New Year!! Glad to hear that you're doing great. My 6 months surgiversary is on 7 January!! Yay!
  21. My colleagues in the office knew about my surgury and they concerned for my health for a while (Once I collapped in the office) so they're really supportive. Sometimes when we eat with other colleqgues in the same organisation my boss even gave other the excuse why I eat so little (she said I cannot eat a lot due to some medical condition). I told some other colleagues about my surgury especially if they also have th same health problems like me before surgery. Some I just told because they are open-minded persons and I never received any negative commets. At first I didn't tell my step mother-in-law because I didn't feel commfotable telling her about my peronal issue and not sure what kind of commnt would come out from her but she suspected that I'd had a WLS and asked my husband and he couldn't lie about it. Turned out that she's very supportive, we had a Christmas lunch at their house which I was so scared because she always prepares too much food but she was so cool about it, never comment on anything and told me not to worry finishing the food, she also packed a doggy bag to go home lol. I think she was quite delighted to see the remarkable result ofthe WLS on me. On the othr hand I haven't told my own family yet because I know some of my family member prety well and I can expect some ignorant comments out of her. I guess you can go with your instinct to whom you can trust and tell about your surgery.

    No caffeine ever?

My first (liquid) meal post-op the hospital offered me a cup of coffee or tea, not sure if it's even a decaf. My surgeon never said anything about coffee but all kind of soda is forbidden! (for now, I'm about to be 6 months out in a week). And I have a cup of coffee every morning!
  23. "EWWWWW" ?? Why? she thought you will cut off your stomach and put in a soup for her? Oh! you SHOULD do that! hehe

    Stopped losing

You should probably have to eat more to lose more. If you body thinks that it's starving, it will fight back. My surgeon encouraged me to eat more (of healthy food of course) when I was about 5 weeks out and it worked.
