My surgery was July 31, 2014 and I wondered how I would feel when I hit the 100 lb. mark. This morning I hit 101.3 lbs. lost and I feel great! I know there is much more to do but today I am going to Celebrate. If I could give my pre-surgery self advice, I would say, "Don't worry about how fast other people lose. Stick with the plan, learn how to live your new life, respect the sleeve and it will all work out!" Let's see if I can follow my own advice for the next 107.7!
Hope your journey is going well and you, too, are feeling great!

three years ago I would not have been at her house at all. Three years ago my back was so bad from the strain of my weight that I could not stand for more then 10 min. I would not have been able to stand there and listen to her bull. I would not have been able to walk the street.
This surgery has been a life saver for me. Even though I have been through so much to be able to even do this canvasing work is something I could not have done three years ago. I am truly thrilled that I can walk and stand for long periods of time....

Well it's been a long, fun, hard road. I have to say during my weight loss stage it was exciting to see the scale go down every single day. I was one of the lucky ones who did not encounter any stalls. God only gives us what we can handle.....I beleive He knew I wasn't strong enough for that. I have been blessed not to lose my hair. The only rough road I had was the first two weeks post op and taking my medications in liquid form. I have to say honestly I would love to keep losing it was that exciting. Now my road begins to learn how to maintain. I am scared to death of gaining anything back although my NUT tells me that a 5pound plus or minus loss or gain is normal. I don't have many before pics I was too embarrassed to have my picture taken. But here is at least one before and a few after. Good luck to all on this WLS I wish you all the best. Surgery date 8/25/2014. HW 289. SW 229 GW 150. Followed my program every step of the way. I never cheated.

Try and do the reboot diet. They have info on it in the veterans forum. I did a modified version of it after the holidays because the sneaky little carbs were coming back with a vengeance. Remember to always do your Protein first and drink, drink and drink. Good luck.

You are at a 40 BMI, which is considered morbidly obese. Whether people think you "look" like you don't need surgery or not, the numbers don't lie. I was also at a 40 BMI when I had surgery, and was always told "I wasn't big enough" for surgery. Well, my high blood pressure, bad knees and diabetes disagreed. Now I do 40 minutes of circuit training 3-5 days a week, am off all my meds, and feel like I'm in my 30's again (I'm 47).

I wish I had the opportunity to do this in my 30s. How different my life would be now! I feel like a person has to be all in to get wls. If there is doubt then I'd say don't do it. I first started thinking about wls about 15 years ago. But I said no....I just need to workout and make wl a priority. And I did...I lost a good 70 pounds ..then put it all back on again. I started looking into wls again about 3 years ago when two of my cousins had it and lost over 100 pounds each....and are keeping it off. It wasn't until I had a comprehensive physical in August with blood work and organ testing did I find out how my body is starting to break down after 52 years of carrying so much excess weight. That is when I asked for a referral to the bariatric clinic. Nothing can convince me that I can lose weight and keep it off without this surgery. I have been overweight since I was 9 years old and it is going to end on February 24th!!!!

I started losing my hair around the 3 month mark (just a few weeks ago). My hair is extremlly thick. A new hair tie will go around it twice, and it's tight/hard to get the second loop around, just to give you an idea. So far, the hair I've lost is about the same as it was post pregnancy/breast feeding. It does just come out in chunks, which makes me sad! Lost hair is worth the success I've had thus far.

First came Onederland, then I have been waiting for the triple digit weight loss total. TODAY WAS THE DAY!!! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I'm going to go today and get measured for and buy a new bra in celebration. (I have no idea what size I am now and none of my old bras fit.)
Did anyone else do something special (that didn't involve food ) when reaching milestones?
And OMG, I just noticed that by my BMI, I am no longer classified as obese!!! Whaaaaa? Best. Day. EVER!!!!!!!

I have found myself getting quite used to the new thinner me. I don't think about whether I will fit in the seat at a restaurant or if there is enough space between me and a stranger if I am walking by. Are people looking at me and judging me because of my size or even what I put in my cart anymore. I have become accustomed already to this much thinner and happier me.
I was at the hospital this morning as I have been sick with this nasty flu that has been going around and was concerned because of my compromised immune system that I might have pneumonia as it turned out I did not. But when they wheeled me down for a chest X Ray I realized that I took up less then 1/2 of the space on the stretcher then I used to when I had to have these kinds of tests.
It got me thinking that maybe I am finally seeing myself a thinner person and don't look over my shoulder anymore for disapproving looks or hushed criticisms of my size. Maybe I am starting to get used to the new me. A smaller version. The person I was meant to be. I don't seem to even notice much new now. Or changes anymore. But today I just happened to look down on the stretcher and noticed.
It was kinda nice you know....I told my hubby about it and he said yes there was a time you could not move on one of those. You couldn't roll on one side or the other. And then he smiled. I think he was trying to compliment me
Anyway I noticed and it felt great. I really never want to feel the emotions I did when I weighed 380 lbs. And I certainly never want to visit that place again...
It was a nice reminder of how far I have come on my journey to health and well being not to mention why I made the choice of having WLS in the first place!

old_rn reacted to beachgurl84 in Head Hunger
It's what got most of us here in the first place. You want to eat because it's been awhile since you've eaten, or you are sad, or you are tired, or you are craving something, or someone else is eating it, or any number of things besides the actual physical hunger your body uses to signal it's the right time to eat.
I hear a lot of people mention before surgery they were always starving and that's why they were overweight. I'm not saying they weren't, but I know from my own experience, i didn't go hungry a day in my life. You know why? Cause I gave into head hunger. I ate all the time. I could say I was hungry and that's why I ate and it was because my stomach was too big. That would be a lie. I ate because I enjoyed eating and that's why my stomach was too big. It's not some handicap we all have, having a stomach that's too large, that we have to eat all the time. No, the problem is we eat all the time and it makes our stomach too large. That's head hunger.
