    Hey everyone,
I have my surgery date of Oct 6 for my sleeve. No liquid pre-op before hand either, which I am thinking is not in my favour considering, now, All I think about is food FOOD FOOD! like its a free for all every day, Not just the LAST MEAL, as I know my surgery day is coming and from that day on, It will change forever. Is it just me or does any of you feel this way?

Make the most of it ! I had to go on a 2 week partial liquid diet, 2 Optifast shakes per day plus one low fat, low carb, high Protein meal. I was good and stuck to it until the last 5 days when each of my one meals a day was one of my favourite meals from one of my favourite restaurants. My surgeon didn't seem too bothered, perhaps because I had a relatively low BMI and no health problems. Stuffing my face prior to surgery still probably wasn't that smart though !!! We are still obese and the lower the weight and smaller the liver during the op the less time spent on the table and the lower the risk. The silly thing is, all the food I stuffed in my face I can still eat and enjoy just in much smaller quantities :-) good luck !!

    Day THREE post sleeve.
My first day I felt great! Easy-peasy. No nausea, no shoulder gas pains. Next day I was so sore! i finally hit the pain pills but still no nausea. I guess I skipped the gas pains. I have a script for nausea but the anesthesiologist put a patch behind my ear and gave me something extra in the drug mix. I still have the patch on and it seems to doing a great job.
I'm not hungry at all. It's a strange reality. Normally a bag of chips is like a siren to me but there is one on the counter and I haven't even considered it.
One issue I had was a large hiatal hernia--which my doctor was planning to fix. However, it was much larger than he expected so repairs were not made. Waiting for my 2-week post appointment to see what next steps are for that.

I'm right on the cusp if having a BMI of 40. If they weigh me next Tuesday and I'm under, the ins can deny coverage. I have co-morbidities, but they are not severe enough.
I've been weighing myself at home, and as expected, it fluctuates a bit from day to day. Generally I'm where I need to be, but sometimes I'm a little under.
Any suggestions for making sure I weigh enough come Tuesday?

Some on here talk about getting hungry. I thought that you were not supposed to get hungry as your stomach is so much smaller. I think that is only the one problem I have. How will I handle it and can I resist temptation ?
I have wanted this for so long and now it is going to happen. I know I have to keep positive, but feel going into this feeling this way is a detriment and I have to get over it. Will appreciate any advice or comments

    Hello everyone,
I am 20 years old and I am scheduled to have my gastric sleeve surgery performed tomorrow! I am very nervous being that it's my first surgery, but am extremely motivated. I have struggled with my weight my entire life, and I was determined to find a solution that would give me lasting results. I just have a couple of questions--for those of you that have had the sleeve, how would you describe the pain post op? How long does it persist? Was it especially hard to take liquids in the first couple of days?

For Multivitamins, for the first four weeks after surgery I did a double dose of Wellesse liquid Multi-Vitamin. After that I switched to Trader Joe's High Potency chewable multivitamins. Did a double dose for a year and have recently switched to a single dose since I can eat more now.
I think both of them taste fine. They are both cheaper than specialty bariatric Vitamins -- especially the Trader Joe's chewable, which is about as cheap as you will find any high potency chewable multi anywhere. Plus lower calories and carbs than most vitamins.
I have my labs drawn regularly and the results are always excellent.
For Protein Shakes, I like to use powders to make my own shakes, I don't like the ready to drink stuff like Premiere Protein or EAS. I think all of them (the ready to drink protein shakes) taste disgusting, like industrial sludge. I'm not terribly picky with respect to the powders to be honest. I regularly use HealthSmart Cappuccino and hot chocolate, Syntrax Matrix, Syntrax Nectar Sweets, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard, Chike, Unjury, and Jay Robb. My absolute favorite is the Chike Iced coffee for sure. I would suggest trying some samples before surgery, then getting some more samples to use after surgery. Don't stock up on tubs of protein before surgery because even if you like it now, you may hate it after surgery. Places to get samples or small quantities:

I always hesitate to give Vitamin advice, but will tell you what I do...
I use the opurity Vitamins that are specifically made for Sleevers. I do this for several reasons...
    1. Research indicated that lab results are better after using these Vitamins (my labs have all been perfect since my surgery)
    2. This allows you to only have to take one kind of Vitamin (plus Calcium and Vitamin D), but you don't have to take a slew of other supplements along with a 'normal' vitamin. I like the ease of taking one vitamin..regardless of the taste...which leads me to the next point...
    3. It does taste terrible (they claim it's orange berry flavored...it's more orange-y to me)...but once you chew it up and swallow it, it's done...and FOR ME...it's worth tolerating 15 seconds of icky-ness for the benefits of #1 and #2. (I usually take it in the middle of drinking my Breakfast shake, so then I can just drink some chocolate Peanut Butter tastiness and the taste is gone in seconds).
    Just my two cents worth...

There was a questionnaire that I had to fill out. And the psychologist had a med student with him. As if that wasn't extra intimidating. Darn teaching hospitals. I was sweating. To be fair it was hot that day but I never stopped even after sitting in the air conditioned waiting room. After all that he was like, well, you're fine. No diagnosable issues. LOL.

Oh honey...I'm nutty as a fruitcake, but well medicated. *smug smile*
They just want to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into...that you are realistic about your goals and that you are prepared to put some work into this.
Now put that knife away and go play nice.

@lisacaron Your post brought a tear to my eye. Thank you!
Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. I am definitely a little defensive and one of those people who feels bad/guilty for my weight gain/size. It took the psychiatrist like 4 seconds to figure that out during my appointment. I'm definitely working on that.

i got a lot of the same during my preop from friends and coworkers...here were my considerations:
    1. this pre-op diet is basically a liquid diet, not sustainable to lose the 100 lbs i have to lose, just to shrink my liver. for MY pre op, i didn't have to lose necessarily to show commitment, (although it DID!) but to shrink the liver. yes we CAN stick to it, because we know that surgery is just around the corner!
    2. i would cheat at every outing, luncheon, date night, etc that i could if it was just 'dieting'. just like before.
    3. WLS was not, for ME, just to lose weight. my liver was dangerously sick (fatty liver was leading to fibrosis and then eventually to cirrhosis) and at 39 yrs old this was NOT an option for me. also, i flat out REFUSED to become diabetic. i know there are MANY MANY people in the world who are diabetics who manage well. I had enough diagnoses, i didn't want another one.
    4. Pre op, i was taking 10 pills a day for my variety of ails. i knew that by 'dieting' it would take years to get off of them, if i even could. more importantly, i just sort of knew that i never really would succeed with dieting, so i knew i wouldn't get off the pills. post op 15 days, i am taking 1/2 of ONE pill a day. that's it! WHOOP!!!!!!!!
Please don't get me wrong. I admire folks who have what it takes to dig their heels in and diet/exercise their way to health. I just felt like I was SO FAR away from ever seeing 'healthy' again that I felt for ME WLS was the only option.

The psychologist and I just had a pretty normal conversation where we discussed why I wanted the surgery, if I thought I could be successful, what my personal goal weight was and other things along that line. I had taken a computer-generated test prior to our meeting, which we went over.
At the end she said, "well, I am giving you full clearance". That was nice of her so I didn't have to wonder what the decision would be.
It is a lot easier than people think and I will agree with the others that have posted on this particular subject that they just want to make sure you understand all of it and are prepared for the surgery and afterwards.
My next and last visit is to the nutritionist. Once she gives me clearance, I will have passed the last hurdle for surgery, test-wise. However, they did find I am anemic so I will have to delay surgery until I can get to normal levels, which is around 11.5 - 12.0. And that is okay because the goal is to be as healthy as possible going into surgery.

I am very new this site have started reading peoples posts and like what I see.
A little about me I am 220lb or 100kg, I am booked in to see the surgeon on the 22nd July 2014 to book in for a gastric sleeve in September 2014.
I have no reason for being over weight and no excuses, I am fat because I let myself get this way and now can't get myself out of it. My whole family is obese and I need to change for me.
I have not told anyone apart from husband, that I am doing this as I am embarrassed that I have got to this point.
So I am hoping to use this site to bounce off my thoughts and concerns. I look forward to learning about your thoughts and your journeys.
Well that's me in a nutshell.
