Book, cookbook suggestions?
The Big Book of Gastric Sleeve Eat it Up! by Connie Stapleton There are many cookbooks on Amazon, but there are lots of recipes on this site. Also, The World According to Eggface blog is really popular. When Food is Love by Geneen Roth

1st stall
You need to do it. Try to eat more frequently. Early out I was sipping something (protein/fluids) all day.

1st stall
You need more than that. What is your Protein target? 50 grams seems extremely low. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

1 week post op....don't know what I'm doing
Are you taking a PPI? Have you talked to your surgeon about your cramps and acid? The numbers on the scale in the first few weeks are basically meaningless as far as I am concerned. You need to focus on healing and getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Please stay off the scale. Early out I only weighed at doctors appointments. Just follow your program and the numbers will take care of themselves.

Why do people regain
Hum, how you eat and what you eat and when you eat has a very big impact on metabolism. It isn't some static thing. It is a complex system. Drinking Water impacts your metabolism. sleep impacts your metabolism. Protein impacts your metabolism. Exercise impacts your metabolism. Not eating impacts your metabolism. Yo-yo dieting impacts your metabolism. Your body mass/fat to muscle ratio impacts your metabolism.

Why do people regain
Lol!! Yes, I used to be that way too! Then I switched from marathons to ultra, started running long, but slower, and that's when I started gaining. It's been a challenge ever since. It just so happened that I was also three years out too. The last year has been a challenge. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Have you talked to your NUT about this. This kind of running/training sounds like you would need a very specialized diet. Maybe you are gaining because your body is fighting for nutrients?

Pre-op diet
Definitely talk to your NUT. Carbs are what I was supposed to avoid completely during my pre-op diet. Since you are vegetarian that is going to be hard to do. Can you do shakes (like premier)? Can you do sugar-free Popsicles, crystal light, decaf tea, etc.?

I need to know it gets better!
I was told that because we are paralyzed during the surgery, our lungs are deflated. It takes a bit of help to get them fully reinflated and functioning fully. According to my surgeon the biggest risks for surgery are pneumonia and blood clots. The incentive respirator helps us to avoid pneumonia.

One month post op! Down 25 pounds but freaking out because weight loss has slowed !
It sounds like you aren't eating enough for your activity level. That said, none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and slow downs, and most of us experience our first stall about three weeks after surgery. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

Does anybody else get tired!
Yes, this is perfectly normal. You just had major surgery. There is nothing wrong with testing. Just focus on your Protein and fluids, and keep taking your vitamins as instructed. It gets better.

New to all this
Get a calendar and use it. Write EVERYTHING down. If you are like me don't rely on just your memory. Keep a binder or notebook with all of the paperwork, etc. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and keep asking until you understand. It takes patience, polite persistence, perseverance, and most of all positivity. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

American Food!
Personally, I like the ranch best. The teriyaki is pretty good. I was at big lots the other day and they had a ton of the lemon.
-
American Food!
I agree about the P3. You can just make snacks of high protein things like: turkey, cheese, and nuts.

American Food!
The flavored tuna packets are starkist. I get mr cheese o's from Amazon. I have heard you can get them at target but I haven't seen them at mine. I personally didn't really like the Isopure. I did like ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates when I was on clears.

Have you gotten rid of the winter season clothes ?
We had frost last night. I still have flannel sheets on my bed. So, I am not quite ready to put anything away this week!

May 6th Sleeve
I would think with a name like Glucerna it would have way too much sugar.
-
Protein, Protein, Protein
Great. Then it sounds like you received nutritional education and are following your program.

Carbs-How many do YOU eat each day?
I don't count carbs per se. I choose to avoid starches and added sugars and look at the carb/sugar content for individual foods and try to keep that number low.

Anyone else not feeling a "burst of energy"?
Personally, I chose not to go back to caffeine for energy. Since I successfully weaned myself off of caffeine pre-op, I really don't want that monkey on my back any more. I think that with healing, hydration, proper nutrition, and exercise, you will eventually have plenty of energy. It just takes a bit of time.

What kind of vitamins are you taking? Some of the high potency bariatric vitamins make me nauseous. I have better luck with regular vitamins: instead of taking one big pill.

When did you get your brain back? (Working after surgery)
Fortunately, I wasn't working because I was fuzzy and had a hard time focusing after surgery. I don't remember how long it lasted but at least a month (or so). I THINK it may have cleared once I was able to get in a few healthy carbs. Or, it just may have been related to the healing process. This is one reason I recommend people not rush right back to work or school. You may be able to be physically present more quickly than you may be able to be mentally present. If you have the option to take some time to recover and adjust, then I recommend you take it.

calorie in less than calories out doesn't assure weight loss
Thanks for the info. I look forward to hearing more when you finish the book. This lines up with what I have been learning throughout this process. Calories aren't the enemy. It is the quality/source of the calories that are the most important. For me, Protein is the most important focus. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

It can take time. You are still healing. Just follow your program. Track your food. Make sure you are getting at least 64 oz of water/fluid. Make sure you get in all of your Protein every day. Avoid starches, added sugars, and fried foods. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Get enough restful sleep. Exercise. You will start to feel better soon! Protein, Protein, Protein
The pre-op diet is challenging. First, stay hydrated. Second, eat and drink everything you are allowed. This is not the time for extra restriction. I don't know what your program allows, but if you are allowed sugar-free Popsicles and/or non-starchy vegetables, then eat them. If you are not sure what is allowed, then call your NUT. It does get easier and it will be over soon! Best of luck and good luck with your surgery.
