  1. I have had a squirt of real whipped cream on protein pudding. I would suggest that rather than have it alone, have it with protein.
  2. What is your protein target? 60 grams is in the low side. (My target is 100 grams.) If you aren't even getting in 60 then you are really low. 2 premier protein shakes will give you 60 grams at least.
  3. Personally, I don't use a blender very often. I don't make Protein shakes/smoothies with lots of ingredients, so a shaker bottle is just fine for my needs. I think I own 3 blenders and haven't used any of them in months. A food scale is much more important in my opinion.
  4. He has got to eat, whether he feels like it or not. Protein is critical for healing. He won't have any energy until he gets enough nutrition. Has he met with his NUT? He may need to make an appointment to talk about some strategies for getting enough nutrition.
  5. The way my surgeon explained it is that if protein is low, our body thinks there is a famine and food is scarce and will do everything it can to conserve/store energy. If it is getting enough protein it thinks everything is great and our metabolism keeps humming. Also, protein is used for a lot of things, including repair. As we lose weight our body had a lot of rearranging, restructuring, repairing to do. My analogy (you can't blame my surgeon for this one). Think of it this way: If you have a regular house, you may need to do occasional maintenance, but if you are renovating your house, you need more labor, supplies, and energy. The protein is the supplies, the metabolism is the labor, and the fat is energy. If you don't have enough supplies (nails, bricks, etc.), then everybody gets to take the day off until more supplies are delivered (so your metabolism slows and you aren't using the energy). If you are waiting for supplies (protein) and not using the energy, then any new energy that arrives (carbs/fats) is stored. We are efficient at storing energy but our bodies do not store protein. If we don't have enough supplies but the roof springs a leak, we may have to take supples from elsewhere (protein in our muscles, like the heart) to do an emergency repair. That is why chronically low protein can cause heart and other serious problems: our organs (heart, lungs, skin, etc.) are made of protein. If we don't have enough protein we can damage our muscles and organs. If we have just enough for that but not enough to keep up with the repairs needed as we lose weight then our weight loss slows down or stops. Also, if we aren't getting enough protein and our body consumes muscle then it slows our metabolism even more. We may see a change on the scale but it won't be fat loss, it will be muscle. We need muscle to burn fat (back to my analogy, muscle is the labor force). So, instead of a work crew of contractors, we may have a skeleton crew that can do even fewer repairs. The bottom line: don't skimp on protein. You don't get bonus points for starving your body of protein. You don't get bonus points for severely restricting protein.
  6. I disagree. The longer I watched this show, the more I have come to believe that the issue isn't her weight. Weight is a symptom. She is in deep denial about a lot of things, including her food issues. She appears to me to be immature, narcissistic, manipulative, and hypocritical. She bullies as much as she claims to be bullied. She has no boundaries. She is literally and figuratively starved for attention. Her parents and friends are huge enablers, codependents, and clueless. As to the comedian, I think she could have been more tactful and I don't agree 100% with what she said and how she said it, but she was brought onto the show for a reason. I lost any shred of respect I had for anyone on that show with the way they treated her. I hope she was payed well for what she had to put up with.
  7. Crushed ice (Sonic is my favorite) with ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates eaten with a spoon was helpful early out. My surgeon allowed ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups even during the clear phase and they were great because sweet Protein drinks were tiring. I also liked V8 for something more savory.
  8. Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  9. In addition to Syntrax nectar, I also liked ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates. They are good undiluted over crushed ice.
  10. My full liquids included pudding, Greek yogurt, etc.
  11. Congratulations, it sounds like you have been doing great. When you say you are reaching your protein target most days, that might be someplace where you can do some adjusting. Why not do what you can to reach it every day? For me, it is better to go over by a little bit than to not get in enough. Since you are exercising regularly, you may even need some extra carbs and fats. Have you talked to your NUT lately about your challenges and goals? Your NUT would be much better able to advise you based on your own specific needs. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  12. If you need to do fast food, you can find something at places like Arby's, Wendy's, Subway, Chick-fil-a and even Taco Bell. Just avoid bread, breading, and fried foods. For instance get a turkey (or other lean meat sandwich) without the bun, grilled chicken nuggets, etc.
  13. Have you looked online? Syntrax nectar fuzzy navel is also good.
  14. supplements can be expensive, so I highly recommend you try samples and single serve packets until you find what you like, then be sure and look for sales. Also, keep in mind your tastes may change after surgery. You can order sample packs of protein supplements directly from the manufacturer (Syntrax nectar,
  15. The only thing that you might be doing "wrong" is eating too little. How are you doing at reaching your Protein target? What is your protein target? Your primary focus right now should be following your post-op program and getting at least 64 oz of Fluid and all of your protein, every day. That said, none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls and weight fluctuations are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls and slowdowns in weight loss and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  16. I have the same thing. I have both lymphedema and lipoedema in my legs. I am currently undergoing treatment for the lymphedema with a physical therapist. I am not sure there is a treatment for the lipoedema other than fat loss and eventual skin removal surgery. Believe it or not, my inner thighs were the first place I noticed weight loss. You really can't spot reduce fat. You can tone and firm muscle. My exercise of choice is swimming. It is a great all over exercise, easy on the joints, and feels great. I also happen to be blessed with a pool at home.
  17. The primary focus right now is getting in all of your protein and fluids. You need protein and fluids to heal and to lose weight. What is your protein target? How are you doing at reaching that target? Your calories are relative to your protein. If you are eating a 1000 calories and getting in all of your protein, then that is great. If you are eating 1000 calories and not getting in your protein then it isn't. 1000 calories of donuts is not the equivalent to 1000 of Greek yogurt or turkey breast.
  18. GNC Lean Shake 25 in orange cream tastes pretty good (it's one of my favorites) and O just make it with water.
  19. Yh that's true, surgeon sed that there was some room but a blood vessel was obstructing his view. And he sed had he done the surgery I could have suffered serious spinal complications or had a major bleed which would have lead to open surgery. I lost 14kg in 3weeks so gonna do a couple days rest then start again n get those 15kg off Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Glad to hear that your health and safety was the primary concern (as it should be). Did your surgeon give you any guidance for shrinking the liver (other than to lose weight)? Try going high Protein, extremely low carb (no sugars or starches), it really helps.
  20. I recommend getting a variety of samples/single servings until you find what you like. Also, be aware that your tastes may change post-op. That said, some things I recommend you try: Syntrax nectar (see if you can get a sample pack directly from the manufacturer so you can try the different flavors. My favorite is fuzzy navel.) Premier Protein ready to drink. ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates (these were great during my clear phase). ProtiDiet hot chocolate. ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups
  21. I know rapid weight loss can impact the gallbladder. My guess is that the appendicitis is unrelated --- but, I could be wrong.
  22. "Thank you for your concern."
  23. I was doing WW online preop but not post-op. It may have changed, but my major issue (other than cost) was that it wasn't possible to track my Protein with the WW point system. I still had to track my protein so I started using MyFitnessPal which is free. Post-op, protein and fluids are the priority. For me, it is a fairly simple program. If you can track your protein and can follow a bariatric post-op nutrition plan in conjunction with WW, find the meetings helpful, and can afford it then I don't think they are necessarily incompatible. On a side note, I personally hated the focus on the scale that WW relies on and the consequent assumption that I did something wrong if I hit a stall. This is the first time in my life I have learned about how normal, natural, and necessary stalls are to the process of losing weight. (Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall) I personally have had much more success and have gained many more skills and resources with OA. If WW is helpful for you and meets your needs, then by all means keep going.
  24. My surgeon's protein target for men is at least 100 grams.
