  1. I found this online and thought it was an appropriate supplement for this post.
  2. I had my surgery in April of 2015 but wanted to wish you all the best of luck with your surgery and recovery. Immediately after surgery I walked. Once I was cleared to get in the pool almost all of my exercise is in the Water. We have a pool at home so I spent the summer in our pool. When it turned too cold to swim outside I joined our local wellness center. I got a discount on membership because I got a referral from my PCP. If you have knee or joint issues, swimming and water exercise is a great way to get a good workout.
  3. Someone asked what movie I was watching on TCM. One of the TCM movies I watched was THE YOUNG IN HEART (1938) with Janet Gaynor, Paulette Goddard, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. It was about a family of love able but hapless swindlers who are taken in my a rich old lady ironically named Miss Fortune. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031002/ It was pretty good and entertaining. Another was with Paul Lukas. I think it was called ADDRESS UNKNOWN (1944) [i am doing that from memory and could be wrong] about a German man who lives in San Francisco who returns to Germany with his family in the 1930s. I discovered a box of Bariwise oatmeal in my stash and have been drinking my way through my tea stash trying some flavors I hadn't even opened before this weekend. With all the tea I have been over my Fluid target every day. I haven't been doing as much reading and writing as I had hoped but may finish Alison Bechtel's "Fun Home" today. I am participating in a 2016 reading challenge and this will be my graphic novel. It's stopped snowing but since I live on top of a hill may still be snowbound a little while longer. The neighbor tried to plow our driveway and got stuck. Stay safe and warm everyone.
  4. Looking great! Congratulations! I don't even want to know what I look like from behind now let alone before surgery. You are very brave.
  5. I don't know if these would fall into the category of meme or not. When you googled the quote did you look under the images tab?
  6. @, I am just curious, but do you know what kind of training and credentials the Life Coach had? I am exploring what I want to be when I grow up and am intrigued about this as a possibility, at least on the side.
  7. My advice is to do what is right for you. I haven't kept it a secret but I haven't broadcast it to the world, either. I am frank and open with friends and family but I don't mention it publicly such as on social media.
  8. For me the worst part of the whole process is where you are now. That moment when you are getting ready to take a step into the unknown on faith. There is no guarantee that you won't have complications, but my experience was great. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, recovery, or progress so far. I am getting my life back and I am looking forward to a bright future. It is scary but for me it has been worth it.
  9. Where are you in your journey? Have you talked to a therapist or counselor? WLS does take patience, persistence, perseverance, and most of all positivity.
  10. I don't think there are any magic fixes. I would recommend you make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals and go back to basics. Follow your program. Track your food. Make sure you get in all of your Protein and fluids every day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. And exercise. You have the tools.
  11. I agree. You don't need to be stretching or engaging your abdominal muscles too strenuously and you certainly don't need to be falling on the ice. Walking around inside is ok, the rest will have to wait. Stay safe and warm.
  12. I don't live near one anymore thank goodness. My favorite used to be the red beans and rice.
  13. On Top Chef this week, the Quick Fire Challenge consisted of each contestant choosing one ingredient from the pantry (for a total of 10) and they all had to make a dish using just those ingredients. They didn't have to use all the ingredients but they couldn't use anything else. One chef chose celery and everyone grumbled. He said, just watch, they are al grumbling but I bet every one will use it. As far as I could tell, they all used the celery.
  14. Tylenol liquid cold medicine helped me with the coughing.
  15. 1) Yes. I count any non-caffeinated liquid toward my daily Fluid total. 2) I only took pain meds a couple of days after I got home (mostly Tylenol).
  16. You can try it and see how it goes. Take care of yourself. I hope you are feeling better soon
  17. Some of my many memories of playing Red Rover was at summer camp. On a particularly rainy/muddy day, we would have mandatory camp-wide games that included red rover, kick ball, etc. Anything to make sure we were particularly muddy. Then, we wouldn't be allowed to go back to our cabins to clean up. Instead, we would have a "grub dance" with the boys camp.
  18. As a chubby kid, the worst was that stupid game they made us play in elementary school where you sit on your butt and then crab walk and kick this gigantic ball with your feet and with your hands supporting your body. There was probably a name for it but I don't remember.
  19. Ahhh, the good old days. How did we survive childhood? We played with spring loaded toys, toys with small parts or rough metal edges, pointed toys, guns that fired plastic objects, BB guns and even "lawn darts". Since child-proofing everything all we have to worry about is whatever chemicals they use to make it with in China or bringing our kids to Chipotle. They have exploding hover boards now. My nephew has a hover board but it seems that the adults are the only ones who wind up getting hurt on it.
  20. Welcome. I certainly remember that mix of fear and hopeful anticipation before surgery. This is a great site for information, inspiration, encouragement, support, and even a few laughs. Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on your progress.
  21. @@lisacaron, I love it. "Screening out the tacos." A new euphemism I can appreciate!
  22. That sounds relaxing, just as long as you aren't reading a book about the "Donner Party". I won't reread The Thin Man today. I think that was the first time I had ever heard of the Donner party.
  23. Since I still have tubs of protein powder and a case of premier protein I am not in any danger of starving if I lose power.
