  1. I don't know. Why not ask your surgeon? I agree that the statistics are based on averages. I count my loss from my highest weight, not my day of surgery weight. I didn't even weigh day of surgery so don't know what that is anyway.
  2. LOL, I must be a Luddite compared to you guys. I gave my phone to my mom with strict instructions not to give it back to me until I was no longer loopy. I also gave her a list of folks who wanted an update when I got out of surgery so she could send them a text. Then, I just focused on recovery, walking, dozing, etc. My mom was there with me and my sister stopped by that evening, so I had someone to talk to. Since I went home the day after surgery I didn't use my phone until I got home. I didn't miss it and I didn't get bored.
  3. Congratulations! You look (and sound) awesome. I love to hear about NSVs that involve living life. It sounds like you are doing just that.
  4. I agree. I think you will be fine. Just make sure you let your surgeon know since it sounds like you will be out of the country when it's time for your six month follow-up.
  5. I like Palmer's cocoa Butter and Palmer's cocoa oil.
  6. You have got to get in your protein. Protein and water are absolutely critical for healing and weight loss.
  7. If you need a distraction to keep from eating off plan, then this is the site for you. It is quite addictive!
  8. Welcome and best of luck with your surgery. One thing that I think really helped me was that I made my mind up going in to do everything I was asked to do even if I thought I couldn't. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
  9. I don't know if gulping will ever be a great idea but you will be able to drink as the swelling goes down.
  10. I was the opposite. My family members were all on board and I was the one who initially objected to the idea of surgery. Once I learned more about it the more open to the idea I became. I was definitely one of those people who had tried EVERYTHING for years and just figured that WLS wouldn't work for me either. If your father lives near you and is able, see if he will go to an information session or to some of your appointments with you. My surgeon gave us some online tutorials and we were encouraged to share them with our family if they were interested. I think that most people who object do so because: 1) they really don't know much about the disease of obesity and/or weight loss surgery in general; and/or, 2) are really scared for you. Education will help with all of this.
  11. Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing great. I wouldn't worry too much about the stalls. They are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process.
  12. I was sleeved April 2015 so just wanted to wish you all the best. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made.
  13. Juice isn't magic. You can get the same results from drinking enough fluid, eating clean and healthy food, taking your vitamins and supplements, and exercising.
  14. Why are you eating pasta, noodles, and bread? I encourage you to talk to your NUT about your issues.
  15. Voted. Good luck! Whether or not you make it to the cover you are already a winner!
  16. How far post-op are you? Are you tracking, weighing, and measuring your food? Are you planning your meals and Snacks? Are you not bringing high-carb and starchy foods into the house? Have you talked to your NUT about your difficulties? Try going back to basics. Follow your program. Focus on eating Protein first and avoiding starches and added sugars. Eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. Get in ALL of your protein and AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid or more a day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as required. Exercise.
  17. I have a basic digital scale that works fine now. I bought it when I was at my highest weight because it was one that was supposed to work at that weight. It really didn't start giving me an accurate reading until I lost some weight so early out I only weighed at the doctors office. That was the best thing that could have happened for me because it kept me from obsessing about the scale. I am saying all that to encourage you NOT to weigh often or drive yourself crazy. You might want to even consider not buying one for a while to see how it goes. IF I bought a new scale today, since my weight is lower, I might consider going with one that synchs with MyFitnessPal, but it really isn't required. I also would look at one that also shows body fat. But, since I have access to that at my surgeon's office and my wellness center it isn't critical that I have one.
  18. Good for you. The best advice I can give you if you want to stay sane is just to stay off the scale. Early out I only weighed at my doctors appointments. It made for a peaceful recovery.
  19. 1-what is a chicken broth diet? I didn't have chicken broth so am not sure why you are drinking something you don't like. Are you referring to your pre-op diet? The clear phase? I haven't had any chicken broth and am doing fine. 2-Pureeing should be ok preop because texture doesn't matter except for when you are supposed to be on Clear liquids. 3-pre-op or post-op? I have snacks all the time. 4-My incisions healed in about four weeks when I was cleared to get in the pool. I still have scars. 5-For me, I find I "crave" more healthy foods. 6-again, are you talking pre-op or post-op? Post-op, it really depends on what phase you are on and where you go out to eat. Liquids: Soup is a good choice. Soft foods: soft fish, refried Beans, cottage cheese, etc. Sorry I don't have more explicit answers. A lot of these answers really depend on your specific program requirements and where you are in the process. Use your program materials and ask your NUT if you have questions about your specific requirements. Leading up to surgery and in the first month or so after surgery I didn't put anything in my mouth without double-checking my program manual.
  20. I agree. And, I am still in shock about how quickly I blew through the 400s. I do a double-take every time I get on the scale and see that "3".
  21. That sounds like a great question for your NUT.
  22. It is relative to your protein target. What is your protein target? Are you exercising? What does your NUT suggest related to calories?
  23. Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!
