  1. I am so sorry to hear that he is discouraged as well as experiencing health problems. I agree with the others. It sounds like he is doing great weight loss wise. Has he talked to his surgeon and/or NUT lately about his progress? A physician can offer better advice about whether or not how he is feeling is related to the surgery or something else. He will probably need to check his blood for Vitamin levels, etc. In the meantime, as long as he is following his program, getting in all of his Protein and fluids every day, avoiding starches and added sugars, taking his Vitamins and supplements as recommended, and exercising he should be able to continue to lose weight. 2. Glad I could help! Boiled? With no seasoning? Yuck. I am glad you gave them another try.
  3. @@Emmasue53 Good for you for sticking with your water/protein/activity levels! I know it can seem like you shouldn't have to deal with stalls since you went through surgery, but try to think of them as rest breaks for your body to catch up. You couldn't run flat out for 100 miles without a break - you'd need to stop every so often and catch your breath, have a few swigs of water and get revved back up to hit that trail and run fast again. That's exactly what your body is doing - taking a breather in preparation to performing another sprint (drop a few pounds). Sometimes it might need a short rest, sometimes it might need longer (weeks). But if you keep giving it what it needs (water/protein/exercise) you'll start sprinting again. And get out a tape measure and take measurements NOW. Arms, chest, waist, hips and thighs. You'll see during those stalls that you might just be dropping fat (it gets burned off and replaced with muscle). Since a pound of fat and a pound of muscle weigh the same, it might not show up on the scale, but fat is MUCH bulkier than muscle, so you'll see it in the tape measure and how your clothes fit. Stalls are vital. Stalls are GOOD. It means you're hitting a new peak and getting ready for some weight loss coming up. Well said. Complaining about stalls is like complaining that you need to sleep. It's part of the process. As far as I can tell, it would be a physical impossibility to lose a substantial amount of weight without stalls.
  4. Yes, I have advice. Stay off the scale. As you have already noticed when you weigh on different scales, on different days, and even different times of day you will get different readings. Just pick one scale (preferably the scale at your surgeon's office) and only weigh at your appointments. As long as you are following your meal plan, then weighing all the time is a good habit to break. Especially if you are going to let the numbers on the scale dictate how you feel.
  5. I agree. I wouldn't consider selling Herbalife a job.
  6. I wonder where she gets her numbers and statistics. The 60% number I have seen in research studies. My BS meter is pinging all over the place from what you have told us.
  7. What kind of broth are you drinking? Read labels. Bone broth generally has more protein than regular broth. How much Isopure are you able to get down? I like the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates during my clear phase. They helped me get my protein in. Keep sipping!
  8. Personally, that sounds awful. You could get the veggies and vitamins from other sources, even just a regular V8. All that caffeine would be a concern. What does your NUT say about them?
  9. What planet is she on? I am really curious to know about her credentials and experience. She sounds like a loon.
  10. I haven't tried it but doesn't it have a lot of carbs? I would definitely read the labels very carefully. Why not just go back to basics? Have you talked with your NUT lately about your goals and concerns? Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  11. Here it is: http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/356614-What-can-I-do-with%2E%2E%2Ecottage-cheese%3F
  12. I started a thread a while back called "What can I do with...cottage cheese?" that has a lot of great suggestions. I happen to love cottage cheese. Try it: Plain. With crushed black pepper. With crushed black pepper and fresh tomato. With fruit. With salad toppings (I like Kalamata olives). With some salsa or picante sauce. Etc., etc.
  13. Yes, it's good with pineapple but you will probably need to forgo the pineapple for a while (due to the sugar content, acid, and fiber). If you want fruit, try no sugar added applesauce or non sugar added diced peaches. I got some of the single serve containers of those as well as single serve green Beans for the soft foods stage.
  14. I want to get a good LinkedIn headshot. I am so looking forward to a good soak in the tub!
  15. I don't have anything I regret not asking and if I had a question I have never had a problem calling and asking, so don't worry too much if you aren't sure what to ask. Just make a list of questions as they occur to you. If your bariatric program is like mine you will have individual appointments with your NUT along with group nutrition classes so you will receive lots of information, including a big binder full of program material. Write everything down and if something is unclear, ask questions until you understand, Some important things your NUT will most probably cover but you will need to know: How to deal with your specific challenges/where you need help. Do you need help with things like: portion size, food choices, reading labels, eating too fast, etc? What you will need to do to prepare for surgery pre-op. Whether or not you are required to lose weight or maintain weight pre-op and if so, how much and over what period of time. Whether or not you will have a pre-op liver-shrinking diet and if so what it includes. What Vitamins to take now and what to take post-op and when. What your daily Protein target is (this is the most-important thing to know post-op). Whether or not you need to buy/use specific vitamins or protein supplements or will they give you a range of recommendations. Best of luck with your appointment.
  16. Say it three times and click your heels together three times and you will get there. Be sure and post a picture to the LBD thread.
  17. This reminds me that I need to figure out what weight milestone I want to hit before I get a new passport. I had one years ago, never used it, and never renewed it. I just talked to a good friend who is planning a destination wedding in the fall. I MAY be able to travel comfortably by then so I want to be prepared.
  18. Congratulations! Time does fly when you are having fun! A few of the first things I had were cottage cheese, pintos and cheese (from Taco Bell), and Greek yogurt. I am nine months out and I still eat a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, and refried beans!
  19. I read it differently than @FrankiesGirl. I would treat the sugar free Jello, crystal light, etc. as unlimited and just drink no more than the allowed broth and shakes. Don't worry about the calories since they are already limited by what you are allowed, If in doubt, just give your NUT a call tomorrow.
  20. It sounds like you just drink 5-6 shakes throughout the day and one cup of broth at anytime during the day. Use the water, jello, etc. in between the shakes if you get hungry, bored, etc.
  21. I think my legs are already skinny until I catch a look at my reflection in the doors going into the rehab center! Someday soon those boots will zip all the way up. That will be a great day.
  22. Without more information it is impossible to know. I could guess that you aren't following your program. If you aren't tracking your food, it would be impossible to know whether or not you are getting in all of your Protein. Start by making sure you reach your protein and Fluid targets (at least 64 oz.) every day. Why not make an appointment with your NUT to talk about strategies for reaching your goals. 23. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I roasted some more this evening. Delicious.
