Protein requirements
Every surgeon and NUT are different. I was sleeved April 20, 2015 and my protein target is 100 grams a day. According to my surgeon's practice the targets are: 100 grams a day for a men and anyone with a starting BMI of over 50. 80 grams a day for women with a starting BMI of under 50. It seems to me that most good surgeon's have a target of at least 80-90 grams.

Protein and calorie deficits after surgery
I am normally the first person to say listen to your surgeon, but from everything I have learned, he is insane. You NEED more protein, however you get it. You need protein to 1) heal from surgery, 2) so your body doesn't starve, and 3) so your body KNOWS it isn't starving and will release weight. Do you have a good NUT? If your surgeon is doing this alone without a NUT on staff I would b concerned. My excellent surgeon, who has outstanding results has me get 100 grams of protein a day, every day starting from he day after surgery. As far as he is concerned, protein supplements are essential to help us get in all of our protein until we are physically capable of consuming most or all of our protein from food. What I know is that to heal, and lose weight, my body NEEDS enough protein. I would be really curious to see how his other patients are fairing both short term and long term on such low protein. If anything, again from everything I have learned, most programs have INCREASED protein requirements over the last couple of years because of recent research results. How experienced is your surgeon?

Protein, protein, protein!
In addition to premier, Syntrax and unjury, I liked: GNC Lean shake 25 (orange cream is my favorite); ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates; ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil soups; WonderSlim dark chocolate pudding; and ProtiDiet hot chocolate.

How do you reward yourself for milestones?
One of my favorite rewards is a massage. I just got one yesterday (2 Celebrate 200 pounds lost from my highest weight). It was heavenly. I hope to schedule one every 25 pounds lost.

Protein Diet
How far out are you after surgery? What is your protein target? As long as you reach your protein target this looks workable. You may have to split your dinner in half and eat it at different sittings. 6 oz of meat and vegetable may be a lot, especially if it is a dense meat.

Calcium citrate plus Vitamin D
What does your surgeon's post-op instructions say? I was given a list of recommended Vitamins with dosage amounts and a recommended schedule.

Eating Disorder
I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs and prayers.

A Significant Milestone
I used my second certificate yesterday and it was heavenly.

Lymphedema Treatment
How is this for cute boots? After a couple months of PT, we were able to get the boots for home treatment. Now, I can do treatment at home (3x a day).

Anyone know of any public weighing scales in the US?
There you go! An alien goes on the road trip with her. Did you ever see John Sayles' "Brother from Another Planet"? For some reason that just came to mind.

Anyone know of any public weighing scales in the US?
Sounds like a great solution. I am see it now, your novel will be a piqueresque tale of a woman, with a vaguely Welsh accent, who discovers herself by weighing herself at roadside attractions, samples exotic truck stop Protein, and meets quirky locals of all sizes as she travels solo across America! Can't wait to read it!

Need advice and encouragement!
My surgeon's protein guidelines were: 100 grams a day for all men, and anyone who started with a BMI of 50 or higher. Otherwise, it was 80 grams a day.

Did Anyone Start Eating Solid Food Before They Should?
Maybe it was because you were getting more nutrition. You CAN get enough nutrition within your food phases, but you have to put in some effort. The phases are so your stomach can heal. Make sure you are getting in all of your Protein, fluids, and Vitamins and you will get your energy back.

Did Anyone Start Eating Solid Food Before They Should?
No, I didn't. But, when I had my first follow-up post-op nutrition class, I noticed that everyone who was following the program were doing well and feeling great and everyone who had "cheated" or advanced too quickly were miserable. I know it is anecdotal but it made an impression on me. Patience is a virtue and is for your benefit.

Need advice and encouragement!
Congratulations on the weight loss and the perseverance! You mention calories several times, but nowhere do I see you mention protein. What is your protein target? Are you reaching it every day? I don't see a problem reducing your calories as long as you aren't also reducing your protein (which I think is a big mistake). Have you talked to your NUT about your goals and strategies for reaching those goals, especially now that you are exercising more?
-
When will my energy return?
Of course you are tired, you are starving to death. You need to be getting at least twice as much protein as you are, DAILY. What is your protein target? Mine is 100 grams a day. As to the pain you are experiencing, you definitely need to talk to your surgeon. Are you chewing thoroughly and eating slowly? As to the wine and coffee, be careful with transfer addiction. Do you have a counselor or therapist you can talk to? Do you attend support group meetings?

Blood Clots!
Your surgeon should be very aware of blood clot risks and how to mitigate them (if not get another surgeon). According to my surgeon, the two biggest risks from surgery are pneumonia and blood clots. Both can be life threatening. Just follow your surgeon's instructions which should include: walking, staying hydrated, taking the prescribed medication (whether shots or pills), using any devices prescribed (like leg pumps, incentive spirometer, etc.). If you aren't sure what to do, then ask your surgeon and healthcare team, and keep asking until you understand.

BariatricPal Site and App Update
I agree about more profile info on the app I almost always use the app. I would also like to be able to update weight and post and read status updates on the app. Is there also a way we could have one place with information for newbies (read this first), with info about etiquette, how to post, guidelines, and faqs? I generally read by going to my timeline and scrolling down. The search function is hit or miss. Sometimes I can find what I am looking for. I noticed that you can tag posts on the web version but not on the app version.

6 months out, head hunger getting the best of me
What are you eating? Are you getting in all of your Protein? Are you getting in at least 64 oz of Fluid a day, plus more since you are exercising intensely? Are you eating good carbs? Are you still taking all of your Vitamins and supplements as instructed? I agree you may not be eating enough to support your exercise but really don't know without more details. The best advice I can give you is to make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals and your challenges. Best of luck.

My story - my struggle
I agree. You may just have to agree to disagree with your mother. Your children sound so sweet. Every time they express a wish about what they want you to do when you are able then write it down and do it! That sounds like it would make the most motivating reward list ever. You could even make a collage of you doing those things with your kids. Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on how you are doing.

First Visit 14th and got paperwork today.. Confused.
I love your binder! I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your practice should have a min insurance coordinator who may be familiar with your requirements or be able to find out for you. Best of luck!

What Y'all Think-V
No, I don't think I have ever been aware of being singled out like that. I do know that food service people, fast food people are required to upsell people. Would you like fries with that? Would you like to make it a meal with a drink and chips? and my all time favorite is when I used to order a Diet Coke and a salad and they would ask, would you like a hot apple pie with that? By the way, where was your Protein? When I have eaten at someplace like Subway, I just get the insides of the sandwich. I usually go for the tuna salad and cheese in a cup and then get them to load up on toppings in a cup.
