KelliM73 got a reaction from Sweetylikesu in Post Op 5 days (RNY) and lifted something too heavy, now what?
Hi Bari-Pals, question for some of you veteran by-pass'ers... I did a boneheaded thing and lifted a bag with three gallons of milk in it and I have a lot of burning and a pulling sensation on my right side near one of my "punctures". Do I just rest, like I am now, and ignore this or do I call my Dr.'s office and fess up. Help, advice needed, please and thanks!

    Hi and welcome.
Congratulations on having this surgery and making the choice to a healthier you.
I have a suggestion to pick up the flavor of your Protein Shakes but ask your nutritionist if it's okay with them to use. I use Torani sugar free syrups in my shakes. They come in a multitude of flavors. You can get them directly from the company which I think is the easiest way. I also use PB2 Peanut Butter powder or PB2 chocolate peanut butter powder. You can get this at Target or the grocery store.
For the gas pain walk as much as you can a few times a day that will help also ask your surgeon if you can use Gas X stripes that melt on your tongue. They helped me and still do for that occasional problem.
    Feel good and be well.
The best to you on your journey.

Hello! I had my surgery last Wednesday and I feel great. No gas pains at all. I had to walk every hour at the hospital. Most of the pain I had from gas was concentrated up under my lungs so I had I real hard time breathing. Other than that, I have no pain or nausea. I hate the liquid diet simply because I want something with flavor. sugar free Jello just isn't cutting it. I'm not hungry at all. I have lost 8 pounds since surgery. I think that's a good start.

Hello I had my RNY on 6/24 and feel exactly the same way. I am on full liquids and after a few bites I am not sure if I am full or what. All I know is that I feel like I am going to bust. After I drink Water I feel a strange sensation in my chest and after a few seconds it goes away. I think this is normal. I have tried very hard to sip on Water or my Protein drink constantly through the day but have not had any where near 64 oz yet. I have felt a little better every day and hope it continues. I hope you feel better soon. Melissa

Hi Latido - congrats on getting your surgery. Try to relax - you're doing fine. We all have weird body sensations while we're healing. I too had the pain in the chest / the need to burp or hiccup sensation when I was full. It takes several weeks to heal physically and in addition our brains need to learn how to respond to our new physical structure.
I totally agree with Wayne - small sips every few minutes is the answer. You will not rupture with Water From my experience, the worst that can happen is you will "overflow" - it's not really throwing up - just a mouthful comes back up because the pouch is full. So keep on sipping - you're doing great!

The big point here is "don't freak out". Everyone who's gone through surgery has been exactly where you are now. Freaking out, questioning everything... I could point you to dozens of my own freak-out threads here in this very forum, but the fact is that you're doing fine.
Just rest, recuperate, and adjust right now. Understand that -- even if you desperately wanted -- right now, your body really won't let you "push" things. If you tried (which I know you won't), your body will definitely let you know you've been "bad".
Your goal right now is to recuperate, learn, and apply everything to the new life ahead of you.
    Take care,
    Wayne

Congrats and welcome to the best of your life!
When I was about 4-5 days post-op, I was almost exactly like you. NEVER hungry but tummy always growling. The feeling like you're going to burst is pretty normal, but if I had to guess I would say it's a decent indication that you're taking too big a sip each time. The day I left the hospital, I was getting ready to walk out the door, grabbed the mug they gave me, and -- without thinking -- took what used to be a normal gulp full of Water.
    Big, big mistake.
If you haven't already, you might consider a "sippy cup" and realize that you are NOT expected to be able to drink 64 oz of Water per day at this point. 64oz is the goal, not the starting point. Just take a sip, sit down the glass, do something else. In a minute or so take a sip, rinse, repeat for the entire day.
The big thing here is to keep hydrated, and keep your throat wet throughout the day.
Drinking (and eating) more will come with time as your body heals and adapts to the massive change you've just gone through. Trust me, at 13 weeks or so out, I'm just now starting to deal with cravings again. Not like I'm really hungry. It's all in my head, but it's more like normal where I'd really just like a bite or two of my favorite foods. I order what I want, take a couple of bites, then make 3-4 meals out of the leftovers in a to-go box. It's all good.
What you're going through is the physically hard part right now. It gets much, much better.

I'm 4 days out since my sleeve. I woke up this morning and my tongue was coated in this disgusting white film! Is this normal?
Also, i wasn't told about Protein in the first week post op! Am I suppose to be drinking Protein? I have the Isopure clear Protein drinks and they are disgusting but I hold my nose and take a few sips!
I keep telling myself it'll get better!

My surgery was on Wednesday and I've had nothing but air pass through my bowels and I'm ready for something... anything at this point to break loose, lol. I feel very bloated and gassy still, although much less painful than the gas had been on Thurs/Fri. I was discharged a little more than 24 hours after my surgery and they never asked me if I did anything other than pass gas. I'm still hoping for something to happen sometime soon. But like you, I'm still on all liquids so I'm not expecting much. Please feel free to "friend me" as I'm new to this group and looking to make contacts to share information with and encourage along this new journey! God Bless!

...don't come down on folks when they offer it.
Especially if you are new to the WLS experience and the vets respond to you. We see the same questions over and over and over again and we still take the time to answer you because we know that for you, it's the first time you are going through this.
It would be so easy for us vets to leave the forum and live our lives successfully but we stay here because we remember how it was at the beginning or if we see that you are struggling during the WLS journey....so we stay here and try to help. Please think about that if you don't like how we've responded. It's not because we know better....it's because we simply know more than you do right now. Respect that please.
We try so hard to be sympathetic when you screw up or ask questions that you already know the answers to...like I didn't lose 5 lbs. in one week, is this a stall? Or, I ate a bag of chips...did I do bad?
I've been on this forum for a year and a half and in that time, I've seen too many vets take a hike and it's often because they are rebuffed when they offer insights or even just their own personal experiences. If you want this forum to succeed, and if you personally want to succeed...be aware of what you say either on the forum or when you PM. Especially when you PM.
And one more thing. I didn't post this on Rants and Raves because it's not a rant. It's a request.
