Urbanlamb got a reaction from taylorj7 in August post op sleevers: Check in
Well thank goodness!
I was sleeved August 18th, and was losing weight pre-op with the three week liquid/shake diet and then post-op...but this last week I've lost zero...nada.
It was a real relief to read that some others are having a stall at about the same time as me so I won't freak out now.
I'm onto pureed and soft foods...Tim Horton's chili and Soups for lunch at work are a staple. (I only am able to eat half, so one bowl does me two days). The hardest things for me are lack of energy and nausea every time I drink fluids. I got my prevacid doubled several days ago and it seems to be helping a little bit with the nausea so yay!
I think a big reason why I'm so tired is that I was asked to stop taking Iron supplements three weeks pre op...so this has been almost five weeks without it. I go really low with my Iron if I don;t take sups so I'm hoping next week to get the go ahead and start taking it again. Also, a big part of my regular diet before was raw leafy greens...kale/spinach/swiss chard. I miss my greens.
All in all though, in good spirits. I was back at work within a week, and glad to be back. I'm one of those weird people who actually loves to go to work.

We all know that there's a certain stigma attached to having weight loss surgery. That's why a lot of us are very selective of who we tell. So when we do tell someone, we are opening ourselves up...being vulnerable. I would really appreciate a bit of positive feedback.
So why is it that one of the most common reactions is "Oh, I know someone who had that operation...she gained it all back, y'know'.
Like...*flapping my arms in the air here*
Gee thanks...that really boosted my morale.
My whole life, I've been a failure in my battle with obesity. It's not like I haven't tried!! I've worked 100 times harder than most skinny people...I've cried in dressing rooms...I've stayed home due to embarrassment about my body and missed out on a lot of things.
Sure...sure...I'll fail at this too is the message that I'm getting.
Help me out here peeps...I'm going in for a sleeve on August 18th, and I find that lately instead of being excited, I'm scared.
I'm scared I will fail at this too.

I know eh? I was on liquids for a week, then on to the soft pureed stage. A little tip...mashed cauliflower is actually kinda hard to get down. I made some home made apple sauce and that's much easier. I'm just anxious to get some fibre into my system.

Urbanlamb got a reaction from DENISE83 in Let's share recipes!
There's probably a thread somewhere where folks have shared recipes....but I thought it's be nice to start another one.
Share recipes/tricks/ideas for the liquid/pureed/soft food stages!! I was sleeved a week ago, so I sure could use some ideas!
Here's a few of mine.
broth....this can be jazzed up with a few drops of your favorite hot sauce and or some squeezes of lemon/lime
pureed stage...use a small blender/food processor...dump in about 1/4 c frozen fruit and a couple of tablespoons of greek yogourt. Whiz away until ice cream like consistency. You can also add vanilla or plain Protein Powder.< /p>
This is the blender I use and love....the Ninja.

I was sleeved on the 18th...three days ago. Got home yesterday and am in really good shape! Getting all of my fluids in and Protein requirements is not easy, but not hard either. I'm doing this to be healthy, and hey,,,,if I gotta get those 90 grams of protein in, then I will. Premier shakes have been a life saver with 30g per shake. Three of those a day, along with sipping no cal gatorade the rest of the time, and I'm doing really well!
Went out for a wee wobble walk today and will go further tomorrow.

In regards to the Gas strips...y'all really should take some in with you to the hospital. I took them regular from the moment I was in my room and I didn't have any of this horrible gas pain that some folks have.
It's safe...active ingredient is simethicone, and that just breaks up the tension in the gas to let our bodies deal with it easier. I had to research it, because I was afraid it was similar to Imodium, where that just decreases the motility...I was afraid that if I took the Gas X, I would just be delaying the inevitable.
I wonder why they don't give them to us in the hospital? I felt a little guilty sneaking them in.

Good point Chris! I guess if you are flying you should be sure that they give you blood thinners and that you wear compression stockings??

Well Peeps, I had my surgery on the 18th and am back home now. I won;t lie...first 24 hours were rough because of nausea...bad nausea. I was expecting it though, because I have wonky ears...doesn't take much to make me car sick or sea sick. But then I wok up this morning, a new woman!! Just call me "SUPER SLEEVEY"!!

Urbanlamb got a reaction from BeagleLover in Ice cream?
Frozen bananas...chop them up and freeze them. Then whirl them until smooth and creamy. A good substitute.
There are many recipes online as well,

Ummm...yah sure. On day five of Optifast here. Co worker brought in a huge chocolate cake to Celebrate something and I just groaned in agony.
Yes...it does get better, but not by much.

Ahhhh...'k, makes sense. I didn't think about the Protein requirements. I'm just lazy and don't want to cook/blend things.

It is indeed hard if not impossible. Best bet is to get children's liquid (or chewable tabs) and consult with the pharmacist on upping the dose.
You can also apparently get it on Amazon.< /p>

Urbanlamb got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in THE LIQUID DIET COMPLAINING/SUPPORT LOUNGE
I'm on day four...poor kid at work, he's the youngest here. I growled at him yesterday, and today whenever he needs to talk to me, he does it with so much hesitiation, and with a very soft voice and a lot of 'please' and 'only if you are ok with it' and 'if it's ok with you'.
I'm ready to smack him today.
I truly, really, do feel bad for the poor kid...normally, I'm a really sweet person and he's not sure how to handle this change in my demeanor.
