I definitely will. I've been running around like a madman getting ready for everything so now I'm just going to take it all in. I will definitely let you guys know how it goes and if anyone has questions, I'm an open book. I'll help in any way I can

stephh reacted to auntjanny in Sleeved on Monday 9/22. What I wish I had known!
I am happily home sipping on Crystal Light. I was sleeved robotically on Monday. I have read a few WLS books, been a frequent reader here at BP, and have attended support group x2. I was not prepared, as stupid as it sounds, for how huge a surgery this was!! My post op groggy lasted almost 20 hours, so I feel as if I lost some time and was behind the eight ball.
Getting up and walking was easy. I was given a belly binder and that helps keep all the pieces to gether. Walking cannot be over emphasized. It moves the excess gas all around decreasing back pain, or wherever it chooses to manifest itself.
Bring as little to the hospital as possible. Chapstick. It cannot be overemphasized!! just bring chapstick. I wore the same clothes home that I arrived in and that made things simple.
Do the deep breathing and coughing. I developed a fever pretty quickly that was over 100 and it was an added distraction. My blood sugar went up to 199 so I was put on insulin. Despite no history of diabetes, this is not uncommon.
Truly, each "day" gets better. significantly better. The nausea was so terrible I could not imagine it going away, but, I have not had an issue with it since home.
    Best wishes to all.

This is certainly getting very real and good luck to us all. I just had my updated cardiac clearance scheduled Oct 1. The remainder of my preop stuff on Oct 2 and I imagine the liquid diet very shortly after that.
Its hard to concentrate at work already!

Good luck to all of "US". It is nice knowing that I am not alone. I look forward to hearing from everyone, your progress and just to talk if needed. My surgery is in two weeks, I go for my pre-op appointment this Thursday. He will probably have me on a liguid diet from that point on, not sure. I am a bit nervous, but more excited than anything. I cant believe this long process is coming to a head.... whoop whoop

all i can think about is getting my sleeve.
all i want to do is read and write on the forums.
the only things in my calendar that mean anything to me are the appointments for my pre-op tests... everything else is a waste of my time.
is my obsession unusual? i'm finding myself less than engaged at work, which is a first. i usually forget everything else while i'm at the office, i've always been very good at compartmentalizing. i resent the time spent doing anything that does not lead toward my surgery.
    can you relate?

I think that's pretty normal. You might have some months better, some worse. The further out you are, the less you weigh, the slower it gets. You didn't really give much information about how you are eating or your height/weight, but assuming you doing things right, then just keep doing that. 8-10 pounds a month is great! If you continue to lose at that rate, you'd be at goal in roughly another 7-8 months. Another thing though....I found the closer I got to goal, the harder I had to work, and would lose 4-5 pounds a month.

stephh reacted to LipstickLady in How can I convince my husband to consider weight loss surgery?
I would have been deeply resentful of anyone who pushed WLS on me before I was ready. This is something that I needed, but was such a personal decision that I can't even imagine how I would have felt if someone I loved was on a Quest to convince me to do it.

Added to that emotional side of things, this surgery is a lifelong commitment to good choices and small portions. Even if you could "talk him into it", you can't eat, exercise or limit portions for him. That's something he has to be 100% committed to even when things are tough physically and emotionally.

It's my opinion that you can do no more than offer to go to a seminar with him so that he can learn about his options. Any more than that and you are treading on rough territory. I know your heart is in the right place and it's clear that you love him and want him around forever, but the more you push this decision, the more likely he is to push it away.

Hello all, I got approved by ins for my surgery on 9/5, just got my date of 10/20.. I have to do my pre-op app with my dr on 10/14 and the hospital admit tests of an x-ray and ekg at the facility where I will be having it done. Starting my liquid diet on 10/5, which is a catch 22 since I am not looking forward to that part but at the same time, its nice since I wont have to worry about what to eat or anything. Good luck everyone

I got my date this past week. October 21!
I just have to schedule my bloodwork/EKG/abdominal ultrasound which will all be done at one appointment. Everything else is all scheduled. I'll be starting my pre-op diet on 10/7. Wow, that just hit me.

Thanks for the input. I'm four days post op now, and I had my last bit of caffeine the day before my surgery. My post op surgery pain was pretty intense, but I don't particularly remember any caffeine headaches. Hopefully, I can use this time to kick the habit for good! Best wishes to all of you!

    Hi Stephh
Just wanted to reach out that I am going to get my sleeve on the 13th as well I picked that date because it was a Monday and I wouldn't have an awkward time period to explain I haven't told anyone at work I was also hoping to be mostly over the recovery period by thanksgiving but I don't know if that is true. It all seems so unpredictable
I am also trying to stay out the food funerals. But that does not seem to be working out

I actually just changed mine I decided that it would be better to have it done in December where I have 2.5 weeks off (love working for the school district) and I'll be less stretched financially as well to get all of the co-pays in. But I'll be going under general anesthesia for an endoscopy that day instead now (I don't sedate well so they're going to do full anesthesia) Best of luck to you though!
