I was on liquid for two days in the hospital. Purees for a week, soft solids for a month and cleared for general food after that. So yes, this depends entirely on your surgeon's plans.

    Two things to remember:
    1. Acid can mimic hunger and head hunger can mimic hunger. Just because you think you feel hungry, doesn't mean the sleeve isn't doing what it's supposed to do.
    2. At first, your sleeve may still be numb. Just because you feel like you can eat a whole cup of Jello, doesn't mean you should. I'm sure your doctor gave you a recommended volume amount that you can aim for per sitting. Measure out your Jello or yogurt or whatever, and just eat that. Don't worry about whether or not you feel full. You may not feel full until you're on solids anyway.

I was on liquids for a week and then soft and mushy food for a week. At my 2 week check, my doctor said I could try regular foods if I chewed it to mush before swallowing. At my 6 week check, he said I could have almonds and a few almonds are now one of my favorite Snacks.< /p>

Even at 4 wks my tummy was staying upset with a lil solid so I'm holding off still doing soft. The tummy has to heal. These drs that don't have a strict plan I'm questioning there thinking. Even my internists told me n my hubs it takes 6 months to heal properly. .

Ok, I have the same kind of slow add ins but I am a bit concerned. I had my surgery on 8/12 and I have followed everything by the book. The doctor said when I was leaving that if I didn't feel like having the SF Jello, and broth that was fine, just push the Water. So I didn't have my first broth or Jello until I was home about 48 hrs. The last few times I was only able to add like three bites of jello and three sips of broth. I have been doing really good (I think) with my water, but today when I sat down to eat some Jello, I have eaten almost a whole little container (almost). And that scares me. I feel ok. Like I could eat more. I hope that doesn't mean that the sleeve isn't working. I mean, I can feel it when I drink to much. I am not sure of that "feeling" of full yet. So this bothers me some. Also, I wasn't affected by food at all!! When the kids ate, or my husband or whoever...I just wasn't even interested. But last night, I felt like "mmmm that looks good" Today at church, my stomach growled and I thought the same thing...that looks really good. Am I broken???

For those of you post-op, has your dr put you back on metformin or did you ever stop taking it?
I was sleeved 11/21/13, and went to a new family doctor today. I moved to a small town recently, and the healthcare isn't quite what I'm used to. This dr had very little experience with weight loss surgery, and we talked about how I'd like to try to get pregnant soonish (I'm almost 36).
We've been through fertility treatment pre-op and I always ovulated, but never got pregnant, so I'm a little concerned that weight loss won't help me. She told me it's simple - we'll just put you back on metformin. I told her my surgeon took me OFF metformin because it'll make my blood sugar too low, and she assured me that he took me off metformin before surgery because he didn't want to tax my liver with it if I became dehydrated post-op.
Just wanted to see what your experiences were...I kind of think she's an idiot, but she's one if the best drs here

Ok, I didn't really cheat...but it sure tasted that way! I haven't really craved sweets since surgery, but it's a rainy afternoon and I thought I'd see what kind of food experimenting I could get into with stuff I had in the fridge and cupboard.
Ended up with a killer cheesecake. Super simple...just cottage cheese, Muscle Milk cake batter powder and a dash of milk. Glad I only had 1/2 cup cottage cheese left or I might have OD'd on the stuff. With a big huge smile on my face. If only a I had graham crackers to sprinkle on top for a "deconstructed cheesecake". (Yes I watch Chopped)

I hope the best for you. Mental illness is not an excuse or a crutch. It just is, we don't judge those with cancer.
There have been some grwat suggestions here
I hope your physicians adjust your meds to your new needs
I hope you're able to talk to someone this has been a large change for you.
I also like the suggestion of reaching out to those ladies at the gym. Just remember we all complain about the excercise. Some good natured some just cause, it doesn't mean they aren't willing to do the excercise. They obviously keep coming back.
It would help you to talk to them. Make new friends. You may not feel so mean to them if you got to know them and their motivations. Motivate each other.
    Good luck to you.

You cant use mental illness to support your undesire and rudeness of fat people now. You were there and probably still are mostly so why take it out on others. There is nothing wrong with confidence but gee wiz that isnt confidence its doing things to people that you dont want done to you. So if you feel the need to judge people in the gym who are trying, why not exercise in your home where you would be more comfortable. Seriously those who have weight loss surgery and then find God or as I say go to jail and find Jesus are probably the most undeserving people to have weight loss surgery. You were right in that position and now you want to judge people. Start off looking in the mirror and learn to love who you see in the mirror.

Really sorry to hear you're going through this.
But if your new "self confidence" escalates (or even if it doesn't) it could put you in danger of being fired, verbally abused, physically attacked, socially isolated, and even jailed.
And those things could really screw with your life.
So you and your therapist gotta do what you gotta do to manage your behaviors.
    Very best wishes!

I am only 5 days out. Today is the first day that I have been able to drink 1/2 a shake in a sitting....an hour sitting. I cant even imagine eating solid food in 2 days time. 1 week out seems crazy and impossible. And....my Doctor advised to stick to the plan as defined or risk a suture leak. No thanks! Theres not a bite of anything that would make me risk that! I didn't have to do the Clear Liquids only, right away. I am on all liquids for 2 weeks, purred food for 2 weeks and then slowly add in soft, wet foods for the following 2 weeks. So 6 weeks before solids.

The directions my surgeon gave me were a bit vague, and sort of encouraged me to be intuitive. I was eating purees a few days after surgery, and soft/moist solids after about a week and half or two weeks. I was eating pretty much everything* other than crunchy stuff and raw veggies/fruit by week 3, then after 6 weeks I started adding raw produce in. I've never had any problems with anything I ate, except for some almond butter about a week and a half out, which made my stomach clench. I added healthy nut butters back in at about two months and haven't had an issue.
    *I'm a vegetarian, so I can't speak to meat.

    My plan was as follows....
    Day 1-3 Clear liquids
    Day 4-17 full liquids
    Day 18-27 puréed
    Day 28-40 soft moist foods
Day 40+ regular foods (except seeds, nuts and crunchy stuff which I was supposed to wait 3 months)
I actually had to introduce stuff even slower than recommended. I could barely eat solids at 6 weeks out much less 1 week.

I am almost 2 weeks post op. I have eaten (all approved) yogurt, applesause, and cottage cheese along with my Protein shakes. I had a soft scrambled egg this morning and was in heaven!
    Diet:
1-2 weeks - liquids or "funnel diet" - if it can go through a funnel, it is ok.
3-4 weeks - funnel diet and can add textured food (no more than 1/4 cup at a time)
6 weeks and beyond - normal, but add foods one at a time.
Sleeve not minding at all. My doc's rationale is that it is easier for the sleeve to "handle" normal eating if you start using the stomach right away. Well, not RIGHT AWAY, but not waiting for 4-6 weeks until introducing anything solid.
Isn't it funny how every doctor has a differnt opinion? Kind of like the boards, right? LOL

Being single with no relatives living anywhere nearby, I traveled out of the country alone for surgery last month, and I've been alone at home since returning. I don't know what anybody could have done for me that I've been unable to do for myself? But everyone's experience may be different, of course... Best of luck to you!

It was a relief to find out that I am not alone with a tingling and numb right leg! Mine is getting better, it hurt a lot for the next few days after the surgery. But it's still numb.
As to the problems with pains, etc. My surgeon said that the signs to be concerned about in the first few days were:
    1. Very rapid pulse
    2. Fever
    3. Low blood pressure
Pain is not in the list, as you can see.
I hope you are feeling better now and that it all was gas.

    Hi Karina,
I would advise giving the doc a call because your pain meds could be suppressing a fever that is present which is your body's way of fighting off infection. Additionally, the pain you are describing is likely the movement and dispersion of your gas bubble. I just got sleeved this Monday and have been in similar pain all week. Have someone pound on your back gently to help break it up. I actually had been laying with my head elevated which seemed to make my situation worse. Try laying flat on your back and don't fight the urge to burp. I warned everyone in advance that my days of being a lady when it comes to gas are over. Just Let it gOOOOOoo let it go. Good luck and update us.

    Ola Menina!
I had my surgery (7/24) in Mexico too, and for me it was a pretty good experience as well. However, being home, 6 days post op, I feel the same way as you. I am hungry allllll the time, and I am getting my Water down, but nothing seems to makes me feel comfortable. I know I am only supposed to have Clear Liquids at this stage, but I did have a small amount of cottage cheese and a little yogurt today, and not even that made me "feel" full. I also lost 5 pounds since the surgery. (21 pre op) I hope this thing is working...but I can't test it with real food for another two weeks.
I do hope things change for the better for the both of us. Because other than that issue, I am doing pretty good.
    Hugs,
    Karina

    Hello Lucy,
You will feel more restriction once you get into soft foods. Water and shakes really do just go through you, there is not a lot to make you full. Myself, I have problems with liquids but most people do not. Hang in there and you will feel much better when you can eat food. My doctor let us eat food after one week but please follow whatever your doctor says to do.

I agree with the others about the fever, but I did have the numbness and tingling in my right thigh for several months. My primary doctor told me it's from the surgery when they have you laying on your side. It did gradually subside and now seven months later the numbness is all gone.
