AmynNC reacted to livingstone in Movie time
I think posters that have attacked you and claimed you are doomed to failure fo wanting popcorn are wrong, and frankly, need to calm down.
When you return to normal, a little popcorn is fine. I had this surgery to moderate my portions and live a normal life. Those posters who have decided that surgery means living an abnormal life where they can not eat the things normal people eat in normal proportions have every right to make that decision for themselves but it is massively arrogant to assume that making that decision makes the surgery a failure for anyone who decides to have a bit more leeway in their diet.
Yes, movie popcorn is full of salt and fat. Yes, I had surgery so that, amongst other things, going to the movies didn't involve eating a large bucket of popcorn. But I did not have surgery to stop eating things that I like alltogether, and that does not mean my surgery is or will be a failure.
And I absolutely understand where you are coming from with wanting something salty. That is natural - we think of salt as bad, but our bodies need salt just as they need other minerals, so wh you don't get much, you will crave it. I've been there. There are ways to get salt/spice through Soups and other soft foods. But I'm not going to pretend it's pleasant - I hated the liquid and puree stage. I'm at soft foods now, so I had some slices of peppered beef, and it was the best thing ever to have something savoury. So I absolutely get where you're coming from.
The risk with popcorn at your stage (and mine, I'm five weeks out) is that your stomach is still healing, and the popcorn kernels can get stuck in your suture and cause damage or aggravation.
I could lecture you about the fat and salt, and I could lecture you about popcorn being a slider food. But you're an adult and you know that and you can make your own dietary decisions. Movie popcorn is not good for you. I've decided that that will not prevent me eating it in moderation. Life is too short to be obese but it's also too short to not be able to enjoy some treats as well. But I definitely think you should force yourself to stay away from it until your tummy is fully healed.

Hope you're doing well foodfighter78! I had mine on the 16th and while this liquid diet is not fun, I know it will be worth it in the long run!

Had my surgery too. I also had a hernia repair while they were in there. First day I was npo the whole time except ice chips. I medicine cup every hour. I slept alot this day and didn't have much gas. Second day I could 2 medicine cups of liquid every hour and I was allowed broth and watered down apple juice. I mostly drank the juice and Water. Didn't have an appetite at all. Started to get gas this day. It hurt a bit. 3rd day I really have gas pains but I'm up and walking around as much as I can and was still allowed just 2 med cups an hour. Still didn't have an appetite. So now it's day 4 and the gas pains are minimal. I feel a little pressure each time I drink. I still don't k ow my fill point yet so I don't take in much at a time. Still don't have an appetite for any broth or anything like that but I have drank almost 11 ozs of my premir Protein Shake and almost 64ozs of water. Last thing I want is to get dehydrated. I got to walk around outside 2 times today then it started raining. But my room is upstairs so I've had to climb stairs and I walk around the house too. When I went into the hospital I weighed 351. When I left the hospital I weighed 358 from all the Fluid that they gave me. Today I weighed in at 345 whoopeee!!!!! I really don't want to eat any of the broths or anything the thought of it and the smell of it makes me nauseous. I do feel like I could eat other foods but I have to wait 2 weeks until I get to the doc to see what he says. So until then I guess I am stuck with water, juice, and Protein Shakes. How is everyone else doing that has had thier surgeries? Are our situations similar?? Hope you all are doing as well as I am!!

That's great thundergrrl!!!!! And haha same here! I was expecting a lot of pain just preparing myself for what some were saying here and I guess I was a lucky one...just have some soreness but the hydromorphone (morphine?) is taking care of that ...I have a high tolerance for pain though too so that could be it. My mouth is dry still and sleep is always difficult in a hospital, but I'm also an extremely light sleeper. They just came in and took bloodwork, I'm guessing the doctor will be seeing me around 8am
Hope everyone is doing good! Check in here if u can, I'd like to know yall made through fine

I'm nervous, excited, so many emotions! I'm 25, married, and have two little girls that are 4 and 2 1/2 months old. This will be my first surgery ever, I've never been put under for anything so It will be an experience! This has been a very private event for me so having others who are going through the same thing, at the same time would be awesome.
I'm ready to do work! ????????

My sleeve is tomorrow, March 16! I'm nervous, excited and scared but at the same time relieved to be taking this step in the right direction. I need to get my life under control. I am a 1 year survivor of breast cancer, single mom to a great young man and want to be healthier and keep the cancer away so I can be around to watch my son grow up.
I am just about packed, food shopping is done and laundry is underway. Best of luck to all the Sleevers tomorrow! I hope you will be seeing a little less of me everyday (weight that is).

Hi there! It's been almost a year since I've started this process and I've had to reschedule twice. Now I've had to postpone it again! The surgeon that is doing mine is switching hospitals. So fingers crossed and prayers said, I am hoping to have it in October. I go for my first appointment at the new hospital on Thursday and I'm getting excited! I love reading everyone's stories and support for each other on here! It gives me inspiration and the encouragement to go on and pursue this!! Have a blessed day!!
