Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits
I couldn't figure out how to attach the link, so I'll just copy and paste to this post. <TABLE width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD><TABLE width=620 border=1><TBODY><TR><TD><TABLE cellPadding=0 width=620 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=2></TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top width=450>Hello Monica, Congratulations Pam: 100 pounds lost in 12 months I'm pretty sure I've tried just about every diet known to man. From Weight Watchers to Atkins, none of them had any lasting results. In June 2007, I decided enough was enough. I was so tired of being unhappy and depressed. I didn't even want to leave my house! I was so out of shape and I felt so unhealthy. I had seen the lap band commercials on TV and started researching it. I made an appointment with Dr. Bagnato and I knew that the lap band system was right for me. The process went very smoothly and I had my surgery September 20, 2007. It's been a year since my surgery and I have lost 100 lbs! I still have a little way to go, but I couldn't be more pleased with my results. A year ago, I got winded just walking to my car. Today, I am training for a 5K! I never thought I would be a runner and it feels incredible! The band helped me get my life back. I feel happier and healthier than I have felt in 10 years! ~Pam Visit our Patient Results page for more bariatric surgery success stories Putting Portions in Perspective "What should I eat?" is a question commonly heard by doctors and dietitians. Yet, in some ways it is the wrong question entirely. With variety as the cornerstone to a healthy diet, the true challenge isn't just choosing the right foods, but rather consuming the appropriate amounts. Luckily food labels provide valuable information as to how a food can fit into a daily meal plan. But, what happens when a food doesn't come with a label? Continue reading... Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits
Thanks Nip! I didn't have any good before pictures, so I told Terri she could just use the one they took at the office.......all I can say is WOW!! I didn't know I looked that big, lol. Anyway, seeing them side by side is a life changing moment for me. The 5K is next month, Nov. 8th. I'm really excited, yet nervous about it. I can't run a whole 5K yet, but I'm getting there. Thanks again!!

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
Yeah Kathy!! Sounds like the interview went great!! I'm praying it works out for you. DH had a 2 hour lunch today, so I went to the trail and ran. I went 2.6 miles. I probably ran 2 miles and walked 0.6 miles. I was pretty happy with that. Have a great day everyone!

October Exercise Challenge
I didn't do anything yesterday. I have a sick little boy and I was wiped. I did manage to run today. I ran outside so I don't know how fast I was going. I ran/walked 2.6 miles. I'd say I ran about two miles and walked .60 mile.

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
He seems a little better this morning. He's just laying around watching the Backyardigans. We did have a rough night though. DS and I ended up sleeping on the couch together. He didn't want to be left alone. This may sound strange, but I enjoyed it. It reminded me of when he was a baby and needed me. He's become quite independent and it was nice to hug up together. Renewed~ Hope yours is feeling better soon. DS and I have had a rough time with staph too. The doctor thinks that both of us are carriers. DS first got it from a shot he received at the hospital and we've swapped it back and forth ever since. It's very hard to get rid of. Hope it heals soon. Kathy~ Hope your interview went well! Leslie~ Hope your back feels better soon. Take it easy for a while and hopefully it's just a kink or something. aclubb~ Thanks. Congrats on your 30 minute interval! You're doing great!! Bea~ I'm starting to train outside as well. It is much different, but I like it a lot better outside. I guess it's just nice because my mind can wonder and the time seems to go by faster for me. I dunno, but I prefer running outside. Good luck with the 5K at the end of the semester! Today is my run day and I'm hoping I get to run. DH gets a long lunch today, so I'm hoping to do it then. Everyone is doing great!!

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
Thanks Renewed. He seems to be doing a little better. We just put him down for the night and I'm hoping he is able to sleep better tonight. Poor little guy...he hasn't felt this bad in a long time. Thanks for the prayers. Good night everyone.

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
I am so glad today is not a running day for me. We spent all night in the ER last night. We didn't get home until 5:45 am and I am wiped! My son woke up at 2:00 in the morning and couldn't hardly breathe or talk. He's got the Croup and a little bronchitis. He had to have 2 breathing treatments before we could leave. He's still not feeling good and I think we may be in for another rough night tonight. Talk to ya'll later!

October Exercise Challenge
I usually do my cardio and weights on the same day, mainly because I don't want to have to go to the gym everyday. I go every other day most of the time. I do have some weights, so I do occasionally seperate it. I have to do cardio first though. If I don't, my runs won't last very long.

Dr. John Bagnato - How is it that some of us have lost so much and some so little?
I think I have good restriction - I mean I can only eat a few bites of chicken or a bite maybe two of a piece of pizza. But I can eat an entire salad from Zaxbys as long as I don't eat the chicken on it. I can eat a whole cup of yogurt and I can eat an entire Protein trail mix bar. So with that description, i would say that I think I do have enough restriction. I do only have 3.5cc's but I think that is more than enough. Should I be able to eat less than that at any one sitting? I don't think you need to be eating less than that. I've never had that much restriction. I can eat way more than that. Is it possible you are too tight? I know sometimes being too tight can be a bad thing, because it makes you want to eat the junk foods that go down easy. Exercising - hmmm... not really - I was for a while, but then I got into this whole over fatigue thing (doc is trying to figure it out, running all sorts of tests) where I sleep for about 16-18 hrs a day. Not fun. Needless to say my awake time is at night. He put me on this med called provigil that is supposed to help me feel less fatigued. Right now, it doesn't but I have only been on it for a couple days and only at 1/2 strength. Hmmmm....I wonder if your problem could be hormonal. I was feeling the same way after surgery and decided to see an endocrinologist. I have PCOS, so that alone makes you fatigued, but she also discovered that my DHEA levels were too low. Low DHEA levels cause fatigue and it also makes losing weight harder. Might be worth checking into? Hormones can do some wacky things to your body!! What about walking? Do you think you have enough energy to go for a walk everyday. You could start slow and for short periods of time until you build up a little. Protein... yeah that is a big no on that too. I tried the isopure and can't choke it down nor can I choke down any of the protein shakes - they all are nasty. I usually can get about 22grams from one can of tuna and can get 10g from the trail mix bars (but they have 250 calories each). But I can eat two cans of tuna a day and get 44grams... so I could just change it up a little. No real excuse here except laziness I guess... And the fact that I sleep all day.. makes it harder to squeeze time in for eating. Any suggestions for getting more protein? Do you like greek yogurt? That may be a good for your Breakfast. It has like 15 grams of protein per individual container. I buy the Oikos brand (plain) and mix it with a little splenda and vanilla extract. I really like it!! This may be another indication that you are too tight. We should be able to get in our recommended protein with solid food. If you can only eat a bite or two of chicken, I don't think that's enough. Something you might want to think about. I could be wrong, but I think you should be able to eat more solid protein than that. Water intake is great. I suck water down like it is going out of style. I have already had 6 bottles of deer park today. You would think I would pee more too.. but I don't .. only about 3 times per day... maybe four. Yeah that might be related to the whole sleep thing too.... who knows. I do mix about one or two with propel mixers (individual packet things) they only have 5 calories per thing. Taste great too. But the water thing is great for me. Great! I use the walmart brand flavor packets. I don't use them all the time, but water can get a bit boring after a while. Logging calories - no. I will try to remember to start doing that tomorrow and carry a booklet with me to remember. I might be able to see a pattern or problem if I do. There's a free website where you can log your food. It's thedailyplate.com. It's a great website and I've used it for a while now. Check it out. Here's the link --> Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate Things I eat - well... I love salad so i eat a lot of salad. I can sometimes eat a wrap (tortilla, with one slice of american cheese, 1 tblsp of mayo, 2 slices of turkey), can of tuna with some mayo, oatmeal (one packet of instant oatmeal), one packet of instant grits. I can also eat popcorn (love it) and peanut M&M's. Those two are my downfalls. But I don't eat them often. If I make Hamburger helper for the family, I can eat about two maybe three bites, but that is all. Bites are about the size of 1 tblsp. I have to be careful with everything though because I do yack a lot. Sometimes I force myself to because something gets stuck, but other times it gets stuck and I don't have to do anything because it will just come up on its own. Thank goodness I don't PB a lot. I've only done it once since being banded. Are you taking small enough bites and chewing well? I've always been pretty careful. I eat slow and chew the heck out of my food, lol. I am also losing my hair like it is nobody's business. I lose clumps daily. Thought it was a Vitamin thing, but that isn't true cuz I took Vitamins and (gained 5 lbs and was swollen too) and still lost my hair. It sucks. Are you getting in enough protein? That's not always the case, but it's usually the first thing people ask. I lost some hair too and it wasn't due to protein. Thankfully it has gotten much better. It could be related to whatever is going on with you. Maybe the doctors will figure it out soon. Ok so that is me in a nutshell at this point. Any thoughts... AND... Nip50 - You rock. I second that!!!

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
Yeah, I have got to call and cancel my subscription. I just got hit with a monthy fee and I haven't even used the thing in months. I may try and sell it. Wow, thanks whosya. I'll PM you. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the info. Wouldn't that be cool if we all got one and did challenges together? I did a 5k today, but I still can't run the whole thing. I got in my car and was headed to the trail, and it started pouring rain. So, I had to go to the gym and run on the treadmill. Y'all were right, the treadmill is boring after running outside.
