@@scubasteph The first thing is congrats on your new band! The second thing is don't stress...take a deep breath and relax cause you are right on track.
In the first few days to weeks after surgery you are going to be very swollen inside and the idea right now is healing. You don't want to force yourself to eat or drink anything right now. You want to rest and heal up. If you can take many many tiny sips of your Protein drink. Use a medicine dose cup. You are very much "babying" your band right now. You would not feed a newborn a half gallon of milk and neither can you feed yourself that right now.
As you soon will see that as you are putting liquids in they will come out and soon enough the #2 problem you mentioned will right itself. Your not putting much in so...give it a chance.
Feel good and let us know how your doing!!

Hey there @@scubasteph Congratulations on your surgery!! A few questions before anyone can properly answer your question - what kind of diet do they have you on post-op (clear liquid? Protein liquid? ) How long have you been on that diet (may answer the 2nd question)

It's just tempting cuz eveyone is barbaqueing at the hotel and the smells are killing us it's not so much of our appetite. But Thankyou for the advice were just gonna fight the temptations and stick with the Gatorade and broth.< /p>

You're only 3 days out and you want to eat whole foods? Obviously you can do what you choose but I would say absolutely not. I say this as someone who cheated one time. The night before I started my puree diet I had 2 ounces of baby food fruit because I wanted to taste something.
You are 3 days out. Your staples aren't even close to healing. They've only just started and you could very well cause yourself major complications. Drink some broth or sit outside in the sun and talk with your mom to pass the time. Whole foods are going to bring you problems, in my opinion.

OK... doing great with the surgery, sticking to the eating plan, feeling lots of energy and overall SO HAPPY with my decision.
There's only one food that I've had any cravings or "head hunger" for... it's those freakin' little miniature cupcakes with buttercream icing. I used to routinely head over to my local grocery store, buy the 12 pack, take them home and eat them all and hide the empty package from my teenaged boys. Or sometimes I would only eat 9 or 10 and leave them one or two. It's funny just a week ago the subject came up and they told me they couldn't believe I would eat the whole package... guess I wasn't hiding anything from them after all!
And, it had to be yellow cake with buttercream icing -- I'm not even attracted to the chocolate cakes or whipped icing. I think it is triggered from when I was a kid and my mom baked and decorated wedding cakes and we got to eat what was cut off the cakes and any leftover icing.
Anyway -- having watched some documentaries about how the food industry adds things to food to make them addictive, I thought I understood some of why they crave them. But I had an "ah-ha" moment at the grocery store yesterday -- just look at how they market those little demons of cupcakes!!! This is by the front door, completely unavoidable! Balloons and streamers... I swear they should play like marching band music around the tables they're so festive!

I talked with my NUT about it and we talked about trying to find something that could substitute or take the place of or maybe just having one -- but NOTHING would ever come close to substituting and there's NO WAY I would eat just one (you can't buy them individually) and I just CAN'T take the chance to go down that road. So, goodbye yellow cake buttercream icing cupcakes... good riddance!
Now I just need to find a new grocery store!

I have been contemplating yoga classes for some time...have to get my "rear in gear" and find one here...but I read this article and got inspired again to find someplace, or, at the very least, use YouTube or buy some dvds!
I have heard wonderful things abour yoga for the joints (I have RA) and other ailments can be helped with yoga training... I know my "inner core" can use some work, for sure!
I live in Savannah, so if someone can recommend a place they have heard of, that would be awesome, but I'd like to get your thoughts...
    have you tried it?
    do you like it"
what do you feel are the benefits to YOU?

Lite'N'Sweet got a reaction from Mikee57 in Help! Surgery is today, I'm suffering from terrible shortness of breath
It's totally normal to be nervous (and those ARE nerves taking over). You have to try to regain control of your breathing. My mom used to make me do jumping jacks when I'd have a panic attack and it helped me get back to my right mind.
I'm sure that your doctor will do nothing short of reassure you of your decision. Mine did. I told him I was nervous. He said "What are you having again?" and I said "Lap Band" and he waved me off like it was nothing and said "That's a piece of cake - nothing to worry about." And with saying that ... I felt at ease. And you know what - your nerves won't matter when you're under the anesthesia. They'll have it all under control - bp, breathing, everything. You just have to lay back and enjoy that sleep.
Good Luck today and see you on the other side!!!

Hello all you banders out there.
I was banded two weeks ago Saturday June 28th
I am doing great and I am down 38lbs not including my pre op diet this is all after surgery.
I'm feeling full after 1/2 cup of good high Protein food. I'm on mushies and lots of Beans and tofu and lentils. Downfall my cucumber dip but has lots of Protein. Cottage cheese is my other favorite for the week. eggs and many other things. Of course the baby bullet is perfect for me. I love it. Right size and blends great.
I have not had a fill or any exercise with my plan. I will after I am 6 weeks out. I hope all your bands are working too. I wish you the best luck on your journey.
No sugar, no soda and I'm following my plan to a tee. I haven't cheated or feel tempted yet.
Hope your day is well tomorrow.
    Take care

I've lost 20 lbs counting preop and post op. My daughter saw me after my surgery when I looked 7 months pregnant but not since. Ran into her at the grocery store. She had to look twice! She said wow momma I almost didn't recognize you! Felt so good because I can't tell much of a difference yet. Actually felt I should've lost more but it all counts as a loss and that really made my day! Wanted to share that! Everyone I've met here is so kind and beautiful inside and out! God bless and enjoy all of your success, they are all big ones!!!!!!!

Can you give us an idea of what you are eating? Are you eating solid protien or are you eating slider food. I find I can over eat with slider food. I am one year out and I always eat Protein first. I swear by it. If I eat anything else first than I can over eat. It is as simple as that. If you ate Protein first like we are sapossed to do than really it makes it hard to eat slider after that. Just want to help you. If I am craving something I say first eat the protien. If I can eat after than I can. I usually can not. So that to me is the key!

I'm a gobbler, too. Hello, my name is Kindle, and I scarf my food.
I was really good about taking nibble sizes for the first couple months, only because it was uncomfortable not to. After 3-4 months, though, I found myself shoveling the food into my pie hole, especially when I was hungry. The best thing I do now is what thesuse2000 described. Utensil down between bites, chew very well and swallow before picking up the next bite. If I'm eating with friends, I try to pace myself so I finish after they do.

Hello, my name is IcanMakeit and I am a food gobbler. I didn't practice slow eating enough while I was pre-op and so it didn't become a habit. Now I find myself taking huge bites of food (and having to spit some out) and/or chewing only my old normal amount.
But now I'm coming forward and admitting to everyone that I have a problem. I hope by making this public confession that I can turn myself around and learn to eat like Scarlett O'Hara, not like a field hand.

Good for you! I downloaded an app onto my phone that takes you from "couch to 5K" (there are a lot of them out there, mine happens to be called 5K Runner) and I have to say it is great! It starts out super easy and gentle and doable and gets increasingly more challenging. You only do it every other day so that your body has a chance to rebuild between walk/jogging days. I too am planning to do a 5K, and even at my pretty highway of around 242 or so, i'm finding it less daunting than it was before I began this program. There is a thread going on the fitness section about couch to 5K too. Good luck, you can do it!

I just wrote a check for my first 5K. It's in September and I am ridiculously excited. I will probably be walking much of it and that's fine with me (there are other walkers) but just the whole idea of being able to participate in something like this has me walking on air. I keep thinking, who is this woman who wakes up planning exercise instead of thinking about food? It's me! The new healthy me. So happy! Oh, and I got a bicycle. We are putting a basket on it now. It's one of those upright old-lady style bikes and I love it.

If you followed your pre-op diet there's probably not that much fecal matter to excrete? And, just taking fluids now won't increase the amount that much. On the other hand, pain meds can slow your digestive system down to less than a crawl so unless you're feeling uncomfortable, let nature take it's course

I was 6 days post op and had returned to Protein shakes, creamed Soups before I had my first one. But with this new eating amounts I am not regular and it bothers me but I have to remember that what I eat for a whole day is probably what I would eat for a whole meal pre-banded. The amount coming in is less therefore I feel the amount going out will be less. Best of luck to you and I did take miralax for about a week but did not see much of a difference. My doctor suggested prune juice if you think you need to go and can't. She said its natural and gentle....I just can't do prune juice..YUCK!
