Every day I am on here snooping around, looking to hear how others are doing. I agree with the others that since discovering this site pre-op I have had to filter what I read, but I have gained so much support from coming here. Even though my recovery as gone fairly well, my heart goes out for those who haven't. Still, I want to hear from them too from time to time to see if they are all right. Newbies do need to be aware that opinions and mileage may vary, but it is the different opinions that make this site interesting.

I would have been lost without this site. I was on early and often presurgery. Just about every pitfall and positive that I have experienced has been shared by others here. It made my journey a bit easier.
There is nothing but experience that can explain things like post surgery gas pains or the new feeling of full.......having vets that have shared their firsthand experience is invaluable. Let's be honest....the surgeon,pcp,nurses,coordinator,etc........none of them have been through this 1st hand........we have........
Now there are some subjective things like diet and exercise and results,etc........we should all be taking them at face value and applying them as evaluated to our own experiences........

When you are on a social site, its always going to be opinions and advice....Good and bad, helpful and unhelpful....That goes for any social site!! I have been on this site pre sleeve and wish I would have had it in 2005 when I was banded. I love reading the good and the bad. I have not had any complications as a sleever and I was normal in 3 days. My only complaint is not being able to get 640z in and not being able to tell if I have a bm/gas at times
I have learned sooooo much on this site and I want to be encouraged and encourage others on this site...I can truly and honestly say I come here everyday to read post and progress and see people that are going through what I am going through and know that I am not alone and I have people that I can talk to and understand.

I can't wait to go shopping in a regular size clothing store and know that anything I see and like, I can try on. I don't have to go searching for the largest size on the rack, and hoping they have it.

I was constantly on a diet so often times I call myself going to salad bars where you pay per pound. I like all the different selections so I always wanted a little of this and that and well, my eyes are bigger than my stomach so I always overdid it and end up paying over $10.00 for lunch. Well when I am on solid foods after surgery, I can't wait to be able to go to a salad bar and get very little and be satisfied. I always admired the people who get the small containers and have very little in them. I can't wait for that to be me. lol

I am on day two of my pre-op liquid diet. I am using EAS Advantage Protein shakes. They taste pretty good and each shake has 17 grams of Protein, 2 grams of carbs and only 100 calories. I am allowed 800 calories a day so I at least have the 8 shakes to ration throughout the day. I woke with a headache today, but I think that is a combination of no caffeine and hunger. I really cannot wait until surgery day. Wish me Luck!

Perfectly normal to feel as you do...abnormal would be if you had no concerns about it at all!
Trust me, you are in for one heck of a journey and it is so worth it, for the few reasons you mentioned, plus so many more!
Good luck and Godspeed for a rapid recovery!

Well....I started the pre-op diet at 574 or so. This morning I was at 554. So 20lbs. in 12 days? I guess that is good haha. I lost the rest of the weight slowly over the past could years. The liquid diet is 100% Optifast with sugar-free Jello and popsicles allowed. It is hell mentally but I am getting through.

I will be 6 weeks post op on Monday & I have 1/2 of a Premier Protein shake every morning. Unfortunately I can only drink 1/2 of one because they are 11 oz & my new tummy won't hold any more. I drink the other 1/2 sometime during the day so I'm at least getting 30 gm of Protein from that. At the end of the day if my protein grams aren't up to 60 I will drink another shake or Unjury's chicken Soup or a small shake from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury or Syntrac nectar to bring my gram count up. I see my doctor next week & hopefully I will be able to eat "real" food such as chicken & fish. This should help with my protein grams. I know someone who had the sleeve surgery 3 years ago & she still drinks 2 or 3 shakes a day. She said it has made a difference in her skin elasticity. She looks really good so maybe she's on to something. I hope this helps with your question.

    Hi Dexter1118,
I am so sorry to read the liquid diet is hard for you. Truth be told, I think it would be hard for anyone to do for 28 days.
It may be hard for you but you are doing the damn thing. Congratulations on your 69lbs weight loss. That is awesome and it is definitely working for you.
I can definitely relate to that "just one last meal". If you don't mind me asking, what is your pre-op liquid Protein diet like? I am fascinated by your wieght loss and just knowing you will be eating this way for 28 days. Thanks and keep up the good work. You're doing great!!!!!

Awesome job! I am the same, no hunger. I would say our blood sugar is level and that's why we are not having the incredible swings in hunger etc. Yesterday we had a pot luck lunch at work and I didn't eat anything. I "wanted" to eat, but I wasn't hungry. It didn't bother me too much - like I said, it was "want" vs. "need". LOL

Denise, congrats! I found the 2 weeks pre-op high Protein, low carb/low fat diet much harder than the liquid diet. Trying to preare that food and stay within the limits of the 3 parts was very difficult. The liquid diet is easy compared to that. On June 22 I will be done 3 weeks of pre op diet so far. Today I am 18.8 lbs down. Next week I am on Clear liquids. Still Protein but a non-dairy protein. No milk or any dairy. Hoping to lose 20 lbs before surgery which seems totally attainable!
Congrats to everyone for sticking with it. Mr Robb, weird that you don't have any pre op diet but lucky you. Hope its not hard after to make the sudden change!
Like Denise says, we are in the single digits now - just 9 days left!

Hi June 30 buddies, Hope everyone is doing well! I'm getting very excited. Will complete the 2 week portion. Of my 1200 calorie diet. Everything went well--except for an arthritis flair up from eating the bread and yogurt on the diet. Once I changed the diet to eliminate those things--all is well.
I've lost another 15 lbs! Stopped taking medications per surgeon's instructions and ready to start my liquid diet on Monday.
Anyone else having arthritis issues? Have others had to stop taking meds before surgery?

You may want to try something like sugar-free puddings or applesauce if you need something to satisfy the sweet taste. A far as foods, you can mix a little broth with mashed potatoes...just not too much, since you want to watch the starch intake. My nutritionist had me try black Beans pureed, but that was pretty nasty!!! However it did give me some ideas to try...like chicken with a little broth pureed was good. Try some of the good-for-you foods that you like, add a little liquid, chop them up and try them.

    Hello everyone,
I read so many stories about the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I was so scared and nervous and didn't think I'd make it. I kept thinking, how in the hell these NUTs and surgeons expect us to eat basically nothing for 2 whole weeks.
To the members who've yet to experience this well talked about "2 week liquid Protein diet", let me tell you my experience and hopefully it will ease your mind and give you hope. So I started my Protein diet on Monday 6/16 here it is Friday and I'm fine. I must say, it's not as bad as you all think it's going to be. I don't know if it's the types of protein I'm taking but I really really haven't been hungry. Not even head hunger. Mind you I have a 14 year old son I have to either cook or heat up food for every day.
I'm allowed 4-8oz Protein shakes a day, sugar free Jello & pudding, 1 -8oz of low carb yogurt, 1-8oz of skim milk, sugar free popsicles and unlimited amounts of non-sugary, non-carbonated, non-caffeinated beverages and broth.
I've been having 2-3 shakes and one serving of yogurt at night as dinner and twice I've had a cup of broth and twice I've had a cup of sf Jello. I haven't had any headaches/migraines or anything. I have not cheated at all, not a bite, a crumb or a lick of anything. Based on the stories I've read, I've come to the conclusion that it must be the type of Protein Shakes that are satisfying me and not allowing me to feel hungry. Actually, I have to force myself to have the third shake sometimes.
Just like everyone else, the anticipation and the unknown had me failing at the protein diet before I even began. I have to tell you though, the two times I felt weak was when I over did it at the gym and yesterday when I went too long (about 9 hours) without a shake. Other than those two times I was/am good. I just bought my son some McDonalds and I didn't even take a french fry. I used to always have at least two of his fries. I'm working at home today and you couldn't tell me I wasn't going to be home all day and not eat something I wasn't supposed to. Nope not at all. I had one Protein Shake and two sf popsicles.
So I'm saying all this to say, please don't stress over this 2 week protein diet. It may or may not be as bad as you think. I wanted to post this because I wish I read something like this before I started because I might not have stressed it as much as I did. Good luck to those of you who will be on the diet soon. I am so sorry this is so long but I needed to post my experience in its entirety.

lmbo. In my opinion, that's the best part of this phase. All this week, I must have gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom about 10-15 times. liquid in is liquid out. That is why we are losing so much so fast. We are not putting in fats, carbs, sugars etc. and flushing out alot of liquids and junk.
It's a good thing. Imagine if our bodies held on to all the liquid we've been putting into our body. That's why one of the requirements of any weight loss program is to drink lots and lots of Water.
It will all be over soon.
