  1. Surgery date was 7/1. I'm doing really well with foods, and haven't had any issues. My only issues are if I take that 1 bite too much and then I feel it for a little while. Still trying to get a handle on when that last bite should be the last bite. I've been eating lots of string cheese, some thin sliced deli meats, moist chicken breast, veggie burgers, tuna salad, egg salad & scrambled eggs, zucchini noodles, hummus, beanie weenies, FF refried Beans. So far, so good. I even had an office picnic this weekend and I was able to eat a hot dog cut up real tiny and mixed in some hot dog chili for extra moisture. It was fine and I didn't feel deprived that I couldn't eat the chips, burgers & Cookies. Oh, and I've really been struggling with the Protein shakes, but now that I can eat more foods I seem to be hitting my protein goals with only 1 shake a day (thank goodness)!

    1st July Sleevers

Working today, but when I get home tonight I'm packing for the hospital. My husband has to take me in at midnight and my surgery is at 8:30am!!! So excited and a little nervous. I've lost 8.5 lbs on the pre-op diet, but my TOM hit yesterday so I like to think it's really more.

    1st July Sleevers

How cool that there are so many of us on 7/1!! This pre-op diet has been kicking my butt. I will confess that the sweet everything was getting to me and I caved and ate a couple of dill pickles. Weird, I know, but I needed something NOT sweet. I probably should've just poured myself another cup of broth. Still, I'm down 8 pounds so far and TOM is approaching so I think I'm doing okay. Good luck to everyone. Let's keep each other posted and support each other through recovery.

    Insure nutrition

Not really sure. Probably have to get the prescription renewed and then it probably depends on whether your insurance has a cap on it or not. I just wanted to ask if anyone else out there is having a tough time with Insure Nutrition's turnaround time? I am soooooooo frustrated right now. It's been over a week since I found out I was approved and I was told that I would be receiving the shipping confirmation email, and still NOTHING. I've called to follow up and heard the "held up in the pharmacy" excuse that I've seen other posters here mention. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for their service, BUT seriously if they're going to advertise their services on sites like this they need to have the staff to support the business. I know patience isn't my forte, but seriously, when I'm told that something will be shipped and then a week later I'm still waiting it just makes me crazy!!!!!! AAAAGGGGGHHHHH! I'm really worried that it will arrive while I'm in the hospital and sit on my porch in the heat and then the shakes will get all nasty. We all know that heat isn't good for Protein........ Sorry for the rant. I needed to get that out though. LOL!!

    Eye problems?!

There's an archived article that addresses vision issues after WLS on OAC's website. It talks about Vitamin A deficiencies as a possible cause (but you can get too much Vitamin A, which also has effects on vision). You may want to ask about having your levels checked.
  9. I come from a mixed heritage background, with the Italian side of my family being the most recent to come to America just a few generations ago. Anyway, for those of you who are unfamiliar with Spumoni, it is one of my all time favorite Italian dessert flavors, and next to IMPOSSIBLE to find in the rural southern US where I now reside. Basically Spumoni is similar to Neopolitan ice cream except the flavors are Chocolate, Pistachio and Cherry instead of Vanilla, Chocolate & Strawberry. Anyway, I concocted a protein shakes with the flavors and I think it's AWESOME, so I'm sharing it with you: 8 oz. unsweetened Almond Milk 4 oz. water 1 scoop Chocolate Whey protein powder 1/2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 1 Tbsp Jello Sugar Free pistachio pudding powder 1 Tbsp Torani Sugar Free Black Cherry syrup Shake & Go!!! Sooooooo yummy! It's a flavor memory for me.

    Weight loss on pre-op diet

I'm one week into my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I've lost 7.5 lbs so far, but I will say that the first 7 came off the first two days (LOTS of water!). I'd like to lose another 5 before my surgery on 7/1, but we'll see.....
  13. I agree....can't hurt to ask! Good luck!
  14. Just got confirmation that my insurance approved it!!! I'm getting 4 cases of Premier Protein shipped to me, and scar cream completely covered by insurance!!! Woo-hoo!! They didn't approve Vitamins, so they're sending me the "gift" of chewable vitamins in the first month shipment. It should all be here before I get home from the hospital. So tickled.

    I hate this site :(

I'm still pre-op, but I have learned so much from this great community! Yes, everyone has different experiences. That's life, right? Still, knowledge is power and ultimately what you do with that knowledge is up to you. I choose to use what I learn here to form questions for my bariatric team (surgeon, coordinator, nut, etc). Ultimately, that is where my "final answers" come from, but this forum helps me to be prepared for various scenarios and ask the right questions.

Day 2 of pre op diet

I'm on day 3 of my pre-op (surgery 7/1), and I'm hanging in there with ya! All doctors seem to handle the pre and post-op rules for diet differently. My doc didn't give me anything specific in the way of shakes or broths, just some guidelines. broth was on my list of options, but it was up to me to find what I liked. I think the most important thing is making sure you don't go off track & keeping well-hydrated. From some of the posts I've read on here, some docs have people do strictly Protein shakes (sometimes even a particular brand) for the entire pre-op. I would say if you are unable to get down the broth the doc gave you, call and ask them for alternative so that you don't get dehydrated or tempted to eat something off plan. Good luck!
  19. On day 3 of pre-op diet, and I am ROCKIN' it!! Such a surprise....I really thought it would be so much harder.

    Abdominal Pain

Call your surgeon for sure. Do you have a gall-bladder still? I understand that some people can develop gall-stones after the surgery.....

    What is your dream job?

I have always loved to write, but I've never really believed in my abilities. Low self-esteem has really held me back. I believe once I shed this weight and deal with the emotional issues that brought me to where I am today, I have a real shot at living my dreams. I want to be a successful published author, whose books sell all over the world. Then I would have an excuse to travel...for book-signings! LOL! I LOVE to travel too.

    Kingsport, Tn

I'm in East TN and having my surgery on 7/1. Let us know when you get your date and keep us posted on your journey. I just started my pre-op diet on Tuesday and I think I was more scared of it than the surgery (I just didn't think I could do it). It's actually not been too bad. I went ahead and prepped freezer meals for my husband and son before I had to start the pre-op so I wouldn't feel like I had to cook anything I couldn't eat!!! LOL! I'm sure that has helped.

    supplies

I'm on my 2 week pre-op diet now, and my 3yo boy is my motivation for this surgery and for following doctors orders! I want to be the healthiest mom I can be. I want to be an active participant in his life and day-to-day activities, and not just an overtired lump on the sidelines. My dad had this surgery a year ago, and my baby boy was his motivation too. He lost over 100 lbs and has regained his life! He carries my baby on his shoulders now, and doesn't huff & puff when playing or working in the yard anymore. This surgery is a life-changer and I'm anxious to change my life! Good luck to you on your journey.
