I am using NJ Bariatric Center, Dr Goya and Dr Montes. I was recommended there by my PCP. They have been wonderful during the pre-op process. What impresses me most is that they take the time to sit and answer any questions. No rush, no attitude.

I had my surgery at overlook. I had someone stay with me overnight. I didn't think it was necessary but it turned out, I did feel better having someone there.

When I was preop, this was the thread I came back to over and over again. The fact that I weighed 325 (as high as 330's) was the shock I needed (along with rapidly deteriorating health) to make a change. When I started researching WLS I would come to this thread and read, and re-read just to convince myself of the possibilities that existed. It's hard (preop) to believe in yourself enough to see the possibilities I think. I just wanted to come back to say thanks to all those who inspired me on this thread. I hit "onederland" today. It was strangely anticlimactic in a way. But I've been waiting a long time to see that number. My one year Sleeversary was last Friday 3/13. There were moments when I thought I'd fail. I have 25-30 to go. I'm beyond grateful for a second chance at life. And those who shared their stories on this thread were a huge part of getting me there. Thank you - especially to Cowgirl Jane. To all those starting out: BELIEVE IN THE POSSIBILITIES! Keep reading, keep healing, keep talking, keep believing. It's so worth it.

I am 0.2 BMI points away from no longer being "morbidly obese"; soon I will just be "obese." Yay?

My highest weight was 491 at the end of Sept 2014. I lost about 70 lbs in 2.5 months on my own, had surgery on 12/17/2014 at ~422lbs and have lost about 53 lbs in the two months since. (My 2 month anniversary was yesterday.) About 120 total. Very happy and know I have a long way to go but am super optimistic about getting there!

Just want to throw my hat in here and wave to you all. I hope to be an "over 400 lb success" some day. I was 491 when I started, lost around 70 lbs prior to surgery (all in Oct, Nov, and Dec), and am almost 3 weeks post op (surgery date Dec 17) and have now lost 96 lbs total. Over the weekend I was able to buy a 400 lb capacity scale (15 dollars at costco) and consider that a victory in and of itself! I am no longer in the 400s for the first time in several years! Just 240 lbs more to go!

The ablility to really feel the hugs from my family. I mean, I can wrap my arms around them. The ability to go from the basement to the second floor without falling out. The ability to bend without pain and to get off the floor without any assistance. I get up at 430 am now to work out and stay up until 9 pm. I have so much energy now, it's amazing. I went grocery shopping the other morning around 8. I was in there for like 2 hours and then came home to put the food away. I was on my feet until 12 and I was not in pain. I was still runnng around the house doing stuff. Before surgery I could not stand longer than 30 minutes without being in pain. If the scale does not move, I will not fret. These non scale victories are awesome and I am able to enjoy my life.
I can also fit some XL shirts now, YES!

When looking at pictures on the wall of your home, a newer friend of yours stops in front of a "older" pic of you and asks, "Is this your brother?" Completely not letting on that the large person in the photo is me, you just reply, "Yes, but he is dead now." (This was followed with my wife jumping in to explain the whole situation... really funny when it happened)

Hello to all those I have not yet met. In answer to your question regarding how much of my stomach did they take, I don't know. My surgeon doesnt give %'s.
In answer to Willy.....don't be discouraged! Your body has to figure out what is going on. I have a general trend that I don't lose for about 3 weeks, then I drop some, then repeat. As long as we are doing what we should, that is all we can do and it will be ok! I also noticed that it was at the times when the scale was NOT moving that I noticed the most difference in clothing. It sounds a bit weird but it's true. I haven't lost anything for about a month now. I try to not weigh often so that I too do not become discouraged. It helps that I feel so much better than I did.
    Onward! we can do this!!

Oh for loves sake. This is a PROCESS. NO ONE is better than the other. No one has all the answers. We are all overcoming addiction and yes, eating disorders (because you don't become morbidly obese and need WLS w/out having an eating disorder.) The flippant "why have the surgery if you're just going to cheat/not follow directions/etc?" get me so upset because that is being judgemental--almost just as judgemental as the people who told us when we were fat "why don't you eat less?" "Why don't you not eat junk?" except it's worse. We all know better.
To answer your question, no, it isn't weird. If it becomes habit, I think it would be, but you're so newly out of surgery I think you're still finding your footing. We all make mistakes and have slip-ups. It's about the overall effort and what each of us makes of it. It's all our choice.

Went to visit my father who had been hospitalized last weekend. It was the first time I had seen my family since July. Walked into the hospital room to see my mom, my brother and sister in law, my niece and her boyfriend all sitting in the room. They all got quiet, and just waited for me to introduce myself (they thought I was one of the medical staff). It took at least 30 seconds for my brother to recognize me. Lol, 75 lbs less of me to recognize. My moms mouth was just hanging open. LOVED IT!

I just had my sleeve this morning. I'm lying in the hospital bed, feeling quite good actually. Minimal pain, some gas in my shoulder that subsided a bit when I took a walk. I hope I continue to feel ok. I had a short bout of nausea earlier but my doc is managing it well. The staff here is wonderful, and despite my pre surgery meltdown this morning, I'm glad I did this (so far. We'll talk again when they take away the morphine).
