jodimarie got a reaction from LilMissDiva Irene in Do you hope to get smaller than your goal? Why or why not?
I am just going to come right out and say it...I want to be skinny. I was a small child and did not become overweight until after I had kids. I am 5'4" and I have a goal weight of 135; however, I have not been at that weight for about 30+ years. If and when I reach my 135 pound goal I am really going to have to evaluate whether or not I am done.
I know this journey is about way more than being skinny, but I still wonder all the time what it would be like to be that small.

I was feeling pretty down the past week or so. The scale isn't moving, Protein and Water not where they need to be, and still feeling pretty wiped out. I finally decided to go into my closet and try on a few pair of pants I bought but never fit into. And much to my surprise....they fit with no problem!! 2 sizes smaller too! :-) Then I decided to step on the scale and it finally moved! Only a pound but none the less....it moved! I think I am finally realizing that the weight will come off at its own pace and that I have to throw my expectations of how much I should be losing out the window! This is not a sprint!!! It is going to be a lifelong journey. It really doesn't matter how long it takes does it? Slow and steady will win my race. I am ready to embrace this thinking!

jodimarie got a reaction from Butterflyhigh in Post Op June 2014 Sleevers
I was sleeved on June 3rd. I had a little bit of a reaction to the anesthesia, which caused a lot of nausea and vomiting right after the surgery. I was up and walking right when I was taken to my room. The walking really helped with the gas. I could not ingest anything at all, even ice chips the day of the surgery because of the nausea. Day 2 was much better and I was discharged at 2:00 pm.
Since then I have been doing better every day. I have not taken any pain medication at all since the hospital. My incisions are all healing nicely and I am starting to lose the "super glue". I have started walking on the treadmill, very slowly but at least it is something. I am still on the full liquid diet with the addition of Protein shakes this week. Next week, I will add cottage cheese and eggs. I am not hungry and it takes me almost an hour to get the Protein Shakes down.
I have lost 14 pounds since the surgery and a total of 29 pounds since the pre-op diet. I never once had any "buyers remorse". I know that this is the best thing I have ever done for myself and I am looking forward to a very bright future.
Good luck to all of you other June Sleevers!!

You did not say that he was force-feeding you or humiliating you or refusing you access to the groceries that you need. So, going on that assumption, I would suggest that you find some creative ways to modify foods that you both can eat. There are many Paleo and Primal websites that offer recipes for that purpose: My favorite is Mark's Daily Apple. If your hubby is an enthusiastic meat eater, he will appreciate this concept as a compromise.
Also, instead of drawing a line between two camps, ask him to get involved in the process and help you experiment in the kitchen. My S/O is from Malta and thoroughly enjoys cooking in the Mediterranean style on his days off from work. He is perfectly willing to do the marketing and preparation, but I enjoying working side by side in the kitchen with him....I have learned so much more than my Midwest homestyle fare.
Yeah, he has some junk food on hand, but I just consider it all to be poison and stay out of it. But here is how we cope in the kitchen. We both like chicken breast, so he will grill it or bake it. Last week, he stuffed the chicken breast with a mixture of ricotta, frozen chopped spinach, and seasonings. We had fresh home-cooked green Beans with it We part culinary styles when I have a few berries for a delayed dessert, and he has some of his Cookies or crumb cake.
Another example is Breakfast. He will make ahead a couple of Breakfast frittatas, made in a pie crust and filled with a scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, or chopped sausage, and veggies such as peppers, onions, mushrooms, Tomato - even left-over steamed broccoli, and some shredded cheddar or American cheese. The only difference is that he eats the crust and I don't. Same concept for pizza. He eats the crust and breadsticks, and I don't. tuna salad??? He makes a sandwich, but I eat mine with sliced tomato.
We rarely eat dinner out any more. It's just not that special since there is much better food at home that is customized to perfection. Who ever does the cooking, the other does the dishes. So, pick your battles. So long as he understands that you had major surgery and need adequate time to recover well, offer to work out that compromise in the kitchen. My S/O keeps his stash of Pecan Sandies and potato chips under his side of the bed. I know it's there, but I am used to respecting boundaries. And chances are, he is not going to bother your unsalted mixed nuts.
I have thrown a couple of stinkers to the curb, myself, but your guy just sounds under-informed to me. If you are not able to openly discuss your healthcare with him, then you have bigger marital problems than just "What's for dinner? " If therapy is out of the question, then I do like the idea of coaxing him to a support session. My guy has been with me to several of my appointments and knows all of my various doctors by name and face. He is very aware of this whole process and what is yet to come. Hang in there and stand your ground. You may bring out the Prince Charming in him by asking for his help rather than his judgement. I wish you good luck and good health.

I had my surgery Tuesday morning. I also had problems with nausea from the anesthesia. I came home yesterday afternoon. The pain from the actual surgery is very tolerable. The gas pains not so much. When I lay down to sleep they come in waves about every 45 seconds. Instead of taking the narcotics, I found that taking one gasx and then walking around for about 5 minutes does the trick. I did this three times last night and I slept pretty well. During the day I have been walking as much as possible. I hope everyone getting ready for surgery is not too scared. It really is not bad and just think about how your life is about to change ????

Hi everyone. Had my surgery on Tuesday. I think it went well. I had some reaction to the anesthesia and was sick the first day. I was released yesterday. I couldn't wait to be home, shower, and sleep in my bed. I did have severe cramping the first two days but it is subsiding significantly with walking. Good luck to the rest of the June sleevers!

Yes- mine is June 20th. Soooo excited! Yet, nervous too. What helps me with the fear though is the power of hope. I gave up after so many failures at losing weight. But I didn't realize how dead inside I felt from giving up. Sure, I know that my VSG won't solve all my problems. I have to work it. But the difference is - by analogy - the difference between having a boat to cross the river and trying to swim without one. Hope is a powerful thing!

When I first tried to get authorization from my insurance company back in November 2013 for surgery, I was at 35. And the surgeon I was going with told me to make sure I did not lose anymore weight. So I ended up gaining weight just to make sure I did not get denied but got denied anyway.
I am tall and wear my weight well (if there is such a thing) and I also had a Tummy Tuck from years ago so my stomach is still flat.So of course some people frown upon wls as an option for me. But what people have to realize is that they do not know ones story and journey in life when it comes to obesity and weight management and dieting, etc. Yo-yo dieting is a contributing factor to enlarged organs. My sister died in 2008 of obesity and an enlarged heart. She was 28.
Judge lest not ye be judged people!!

    Hi,
The site creator wrote an ezine article about this exact topic a few weeks back regarding plateau's and if I recall correctly I think he mentioned like five different things one can do to get through it.
Other things that I have read were changing up the amount of calories consumed either more or less than normal. Changing your activity levels, type of activities and time of doing them and finally changing the type of foods you eat. I also remember something about attitude and sticking the course. I have my motto in my signature as remembering it's a marathon and not a sprint. Every day, week or even month that you do NOT regain any wait is a POSITIVE. Stick with your programs, tighten up your 'clean' eating and recommit, focus and stay positive. You've done great so far and best of luck in the upcoming 5k, I am still just trying to walk 1k LOL so put that into perspective and I hope you do well.

Had my VSG this morning 5/21/2014 so I am officially on the other side now. It all went so well, the surgery last about 2 hours, I will be in the hospital until Friday. Can't believe it finally has happened. Feeling good having some gas pains but I've taken 3 small walks around the nurses station.
