SGL755 got a reaction from Imvalentine in May Sleever Roll Call
As my surgery was in Mexico I didn't have an aftercare service offered as I'm in New Zealand. I'm down 25 lbs since surgery on 03 may 2014. I have been in stall mode for past 4 weeks. I'm not sure why or how. I'm definitely changing shape and have dropped 2 sizes in clothing. I don't know how to get this baby kick started back in to action. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. I wasn't super heavy to start with but was on all the meds. Am off my bp meds and cholesterol has dropped significantly. So am still very positive, just feel a bit lost right now xx

    SGL755 reacted to Luigi5144 in Grocery Bill . . .
I am still pre op. too. in fact, I start my 3 month medical weight management on Tues. I began on my own though this past week. I am currently taking daily steroids for autoimmune disease and I am starving from sun up to sun down. Here's my thoughts on my last big grocery shopping last week. When shopping healthy, you pay more for convenience. Meaning the less you have to do when you get the food home to consume it. I still had to get the little things for my Autistic texture sensitive 9 yr old that I don't eat or drink. But, I bought the bulk boneless skinless fresh chicken breast package ( i get 8 big chicken breasts in it) and a ton of veggies and some fruits. When I got it home, I put each chicken breast into a freezer bag and put them into the freezer. Now, We generally eat more than a chicken breast between the three of us, but I've found that by freezing them individually, they thaw quicker. Which in my house can be interpretted as one less excuse to just get fast food. They are thawed in time to make for dinner. The veggies and fruits, I immediatly started washing, chopping (or tearing for the greens) and putting in variety of sized baggies, For example, a head of lettuce cost me under $1. By washing and tearing it up myself, I had a very stuffed gallon sized baggie full of lettuce ready to go. I tuck a paper towel in with it to keep it fresh longer. But, Our fave bagged salad is $3.88 per bag and you get half the amt. I got a bunch of celery. I washed it, and tore off all of the leaves and put them in a baggie in the fridge. The stalks, I made nice thin match sticks out of. Those I put into snack sized baggies. I probably made 12-16 snack size baggies of celery sticks. Same with the seedless grapes. I washed, plucked and scooped half cup size portions into snack baggies. I washed and chopped up two heads of cauliflower. I LOVE roasted cauliflower. I just toss a bunch of popcorn sized florets onto a cookie sheet. spray them lightly with some cooking spray and sprinkle them with dried italian seasoning. I bake until they brown just a bit. Anyways, same with the cucumbers, berries, zucchini, broccoli, and squash, etc. I spent less and did more prep at home, but as my Granny often says " I've got more time than money". LOL. It stretched my same grocery bill with same spending into what is now grab and go healthy food. We typically eat fast food or the likes of fast food 3x per week. Between my health issues and my special needs child's issues and therapy schedules, it's just become a way of life. We haven't eaten out since last Sunday. And we haven't gone without either. You'll have to factor in Protein shakes for your future. My husband is a work out nut. Seriously goes to the gym 7 days a week, plus runs. He goes thru a lot of Protein Shakes. But, I'd guess he spends about $40-$50 a month on the big things of Protein powder. I plan on saving that money for myself every week just by skipping the fast foods and the cokes or dr peppers here and there. I hope this helps a little.

First my NSV. After 20 years I can finally wear my "official" wedding ring. I was so excited I almost cried. I had to take a picture an text it to my husband. Yay! Also the same day my daughter decided to show me how far I have come. I haven't list any weight in 2 months (ever since the doctor started messing with my synthroid) and I was saying that I don't feel like I look that different. She had to prove me wrong and made a side by side photo. I have never been so excited to be proven wrong. In the first I was at my highest weight of 248 and the second is at my current weight of 177.

SGL755 reacted to Madam Reverie in Soooo... Whad I miss?!
    Hello Darlinks.
I've been away for a bit. Did you miss me?! (That's a rhetorical joke, btw!)
Went on holiday. My first proper holiday in the sun since being sliced and diced.
So, what did I learn on my travels to foreign climes?
Water consumption. It is kinda important. Stops one from passing out and prevents your skin looking akin to that of a sun-dried prune. Beer and vodka-sprite. It is not a good substitute for Water. Despite it being entertaining, it gives you a headache and forces you to have to drink far more water to replenish and sustain hydration levels which then compromises food intake. It is also not as nice as Guinness. But then you all knew that. Protein. I was at an 'all inclusive' affair. I realised pesky chef's don't particularly like dolling out the Protein en-masse as it is expensive and they're trying to minimise costs. Consequently, I became that person who swiped 'the best bits', muscled people out of the way to get the extra piece of steak or last omelet being served in the mornings. Without sufficient protein I felt weak. It also compromised my ability to drink beer and vodka-sprite - and who needs that?! Puddings/Deserts. Are absolutely pointless and made me feel sick. The tube that is now my stomach has very much done its job, in that I do not tolerate sugary things well. I also found it dehydrated me, which then compounded the feeling of 'urgh'. Subsequently, if I wanted something sweet, I opted for water melon. Sweet enough, tasty and well, is largely made up of water! Huzzah! Sun tan cream. Before buying this, please have a little think about how much you will actually need. I, with my head up my bottom, bought enough lotion to slather up an entire herd of elephants. Clearly, as with most body-dysmorphics, I had bought what I would have previously consumed pre-sleeve. When my skin was three times the square footage. Consequently, I came home with three untouched bottles.< /li> hair Loss. Yes, weird, but a point I hadn't considered. If, like me, you lost a fair amount of hair; be forewarned. When you go out into the sun where your hair has thinned, you can easily get a burnt scalp- unless you protect it with cream or a hat or something. I got a burnt head and then a few days later had to deal with all the serious flaking going on. Not an attractive look; your partner picking out massive lumps of skin out of your hair like some chimpanzee grooming its partner when you're out for dinner in the local town or in pleasant company. Jewellery. Yes, I have lost weight. Yes, I wore jewellery. Yes, I drank vodka-sprite, went dancing and didn't realise till the next day that my watch, the one I'd been promising to get some links taken out of, had flung off my wrist at some point during the evening and was now lost. A diamond ring also flung off on a separate occasion, but thankfully, I spotted it happening and quickly reclaimed it. Don't put off getting your jewellery re-sized. Or, alternatively, and if you're going dancing - don't wear it. I was very sad I'd lost my watch. Still, gives me an excuse to buy a nice shiny new one.... Razors and shaving. Bit personal but hey, we're all sharers here. What a difference losing 60 odd pounds makes?! I could reach the places other razors couldn't previously reach and in record time, too! No awkward breath-sapping contortions, fuzz or badly-packed packets of rolling tobacco for me, thank you very much! Sweating and heat rash. Practically non-existent in comparison. What a difference. Amazing. Made my holiday. Prepare to be amazed. I was. Feeling attractive. Finally it happened. I realised I was thinner, healthier, happier and that even my hair is getting thicker, my skin is beginning to snap back into shape again - along with my boobs! I was humbled and left with a warm, smiley, fuzzy feeling. My bottom got pinched a lot, too. So I assume that my inner happy was matching my outer happy and that made 'him' want to grope me more If you hadn't already worked it out... I had a lovely time.
Here's hoping you, too, have a very happy, warm, fun-filled summer. Everything we've gone through? It's so worth it.

Shoot, I just do not get offended easily myself. I overeat and way under exercise. I have lost 100 pounds twice and gained it all back. At 47, I have no time to be sensitive to others remarks. That being said... DANG it is so hot here in AZ. I am going to have to walk in the health club. Thankfully they have air!

I'm in...I've been making it a point to get on my treadmill in the mornings for about 20 mins then walk with my family and dogs at night for about 20-30. I was sleeved 6/25 and am already down 15 lbs. I've spent most of my life fighting with my weight and always hearing the snide comments, but it's the fuel I'll need to get myself to the best possible me I can be for me and my family. And I'll be the first to admit to my less than active and overindulgent lifestyle

I think some people may be overreacting here, I think the message came from a good place. Some people may not like the delivery, but I did and that's why I joined this forum to see a wide variety of people expressing themselves.
This also scares me from expressing myself in the future for fear someone might not like what I have to say to the point Alex is "reminding" us of the forum rules because of the word "fatties"

I am so happy to read posts by WLS twenty-something year olds, but I am even more happy to read posts by the FABULOUS FIFTY + group of women and men who have taken charge of their health by FINALLY getting the right tool needed to deal with our weight issues. I may have had the surgery for totally different reasons than a younger person (maybe not)........ But, for the most part, look how much healthier we all are by getting a hold on all the weight related health issues and mobility issues we all faced or would have eventually had to face. Not to mention, how much better we feel in our own skin, now that it is not strectched out from here to there...... LOL

I bought a bikini .. Not 100% comfortable yet but I hope I will soon be able to strut my stuff.

Today's my 7 month anniversary for my conversion from lapband to sleeve. 90 pounds down and 60 to go. Feeling pretty proud of myself even though my weight loss has slowed and I'm still struggling with "just wanting to eat things". For the most part, I'm eating around 1200 calories, 85 gm of Protein and getting 100 oz or more of Fluid in. I've been walking about 3 miles a day four or five times per week. Know what? My dog has also lost some weight!!

Well lastnight I was in contact with the doctor and he thinks the headache was from the anesthesia and the nausea was from the headache. They called me in suppositories for nausea and that helped tremendously. They said if my fever was above 101.5 to go in. It never got above 100.9, then went away this morning! I feel SO much better.
The nurse and I have been texting all morning. She told me not to push the Protein yet until I feel better. I'm keeping my liquids down just fine!
The scale this morning said I've lost 20lbs!
    I'll take it

From my surgery on September 23, 2013 until now has been a long journey, and I have roughly between 30 - 40 more miles to go! The ride has been slow, but I've lost 75 lbs. along the way. Were there bumps and potholes in the road? Yes, lots of them! LOL But, I learned to shift gears to ease over the bumps, and go around the potholes! This journey is not only about losing weight, but more about changing the way I think about food, and as my thinking changed the ride became a lot smoother!

For me , carbs were my downfall. I recommend you read Gary Taub's Good Calories, Bad Calories. It completely changed my outlook. I now track carbs, not calories, and eat high fat and 70+g of Protein a day. I limit my carbs to no more than 15 g at a time, usually far less, and no more than 45 g per day. I started this a few months ago. I am never hungry. Have gone from size 8 to size 6. If you are addicted to carbs like I am, read the books on this topic and give it a try for a few weeks. I will eat like this for the rest of my life. Yes, I do have bad days when I indulge in high carb treats. But that is the minority, I enjoy it, then I go back to my low carb regimen. It works, that's all I can say.
