  1. Surgery is a personal decision. it's not for everyone. Many people have changed their minds and backed out. Understand that they usually don't stay on a weight loss surgery chat forum. I needed along term solution. I'm still maintaining my weight over four years. I had no complication's and bounced back quickly from surgery. No regrets This is a big decision. Do what's best for you.
  2. Sleeve surgery 2014/maintaining. Starting weight for challenge 136 today's weight 133 # DAY 22 Something I'm going to accomplish? Tearing out my living room carpet and installing tile. More than one photo of my hobby: Urban exploring of man-made structures, usually abandoned ruins. Forbidden places
  3. @lark60 It’s great to talk with people years out. Sorry to hear about all the personal stress. Sounds like you have found what puts your body back into weight loss mode. Eight pounds down is fantastic. You can also inspire others struggling with weight gain. Welcome back, Jenn
  4. I'm four and a half years out. My two cents ? How do you get back on board? "What do you do when you lose control of your eating?" Some things to try. I understand the struggles you are describing. We already know what we should be doing. Getting back on track is a mental battle. What do I do to get back on board is detox off carbs and sugar, I accept that I will feel crappy for a short period of time. Give yourself small attainable goals to start. (Five pounds at a time) I give myself a loving kick in the @ss perspective. A person with cancer and months to live would gladly trade places for our weight loss struggles. Many reasons why people over eat. One way to manage it is to make a note in your food log when your off track and try to pin point your reasons or what you’re feeling After a year, Diet is not a one size fits all. Keto, intermittent fasting, whole foods, Going back to basics, paleo, vegan. The list goes on Whatever diet you choose, you need to know what calories and macros put your body into weight loss mode. (These numbers will be specific to you) Use your food log. Dial your calories back by 100 calories for a month, if the scale does not move dial it back again. When you are ready to maintain start moving your calories up to find the macros that stop your weight loss. I am female 5’5” I can gain on 1400/1500 calories. The numbers are different for each of us. Again, not a one size fits all. I could feel less restriction at a year out. I had to fill the extra volume with dense protein and as much veggies until I felt full. Honestly, its not hard to consume extra calories. It’s something I have to keep an eye on years out. Get rid of bars, shakes. Eating real food will keep you more satiated Dense protein Keep healthy sweet and salty foods on hand to satisfy cravings Remove temptation foods from your home Log, hydrate and get activity in Keep a veggie tray in the fridge for boredom and head hunger. Allow yourself to eat as much of it until full (I do this for night snacking) Pre – cook or meal prep. Make larger batches of foods and freeze them in smaller portions. Plan meals and try new recipes. Join a weight loss challenge. Feb weight loss on bariatric pal. Myfitness pal just give me ten days has many active participants. 5. Counting down the months until summer. How is everyone doing with their workouts? The cold weather has me feeling down. I’m getting focused on my gym routine. I was 144 pounds on the 16th. I'm back down to 133 pounds today. Eleven pounds in five days is crazy fast for me. I have not been in a tanning bed since the 80's. I started using one at my gym. I have to admit, my mood is better after lying in the fake sun.
  6. Sleeve surgery 2014/maintaining. Starting weight for challenge 136 today's weight 135 Feeling good about cleaning up my diet. No junk. # day 20 Feel good art.
  7. I understand the rant. I'm not a fan of this show either.
  8. @lori1963 @Screwballski Thanks for sharing your photos. My skin is very similar. Someday, I might get brave and share some like yours. These are my recent photo's. This is what mine looks like with clothing. Amazing what I can hide.
  9. Great loss. I love the dress.
  10. Sleeve surgery june 2014/ maintaining Start 136 todays weight 136.1 Day #19 Last years positive memory that I’m proud of - Two bucket list half marathons for my 50th birthday. Both were my first mountain elevation trail run’s. No junk - Check #sexy shoes
  11. I see fast and slow weight loss with each type of surgery. Many factors, age, sex, medical issues, hormones, medication and complications. 60% of your excess weight is the average weight loss with the sleeve. Whatever procedure you choose, try not to get caught up in how fast you lose. Even if you are a slower loser, you will still lose weight. Also, don’t compare your weight loss with the rates of others. It will make you crazy. Have I noticed weight loss can be slow with the sleeve? My weight loss was fast with the sleeve. I got to my goal of 140 in six months. I’m four and a half years out and maintain in the 130’s
  12. 6 months out I was at 900 to 1000 calories. (I’m a sleeve) Others here with Bypass have better advice on volume and calories for your type of surgery. I think most of us feel restriction be come less as you progress out from surgery. You may want to make some changes to manage hunger. Keep with in your weight loss calories and macros. The numbers are specific to you. Spread meals out 3 meals 2 snacks. Can increase it to 5 or 6 and still stay at your calories/macros) For me, I’m more satisfied on real food than protein shakes. Eat plenty of fibrous veggies to fill your extra room. Keep healthy sweet and salty items on hand

  14. Have not seen an update in a while. How are you doing?
  15. Your surgeon knows your medical issues and medications you take. You might want to discuss what type of surgery would work best for you. The average weight loss is 60% of your excess weight with the sleeve. My experience, hunger does not go away with surgery. First stages, hunger is less. As you progress out you will notice you can eat more in food volume. You will have real and head hunger.
  16. Here is all the topics on KETO that people have posted on this site. I have not seen a Bypass or bariatric specific keto forum. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=keto Im not sure if you use a food log. Myfitnesspal has many keto specific forums and support.
  17. @lori1963 Will this diet get rid of your stomach area? Yes and no You will lose weight and pant sizes. If you hold your weight in your stomach area you may have loose skin to deal with after weight loss. insurance may help cover plastics if you have documented rashes or mobility issues.
  18. Yep, Shoe sizes changes. I also had to resize my wedding set and my necklaces are smaller chain length.
  19. Wow, I see myself in much of what she said. I still have a chip on my shoulder how society views obesity/my body as unacceptable. Who am I now after weight loss? I have the same core values that I had pre-surgery, I have a warped sense of humor that I never want to lose. I can do all the things that my weight stopped me from doing. My health and outlook on life is better. I don’t see much changing in society. The medias standard of beauty makes me angry. It's more messages that we are not enough. The world is full of judgmental people. After weight loss, you will be judged on other things besides weight.
  20. I use them for on the run quick meals. I keep meal bars in my car for emergencies when I can’t get a meal in. Once I could hit my protein goal with real food, I took them out of my diet. (instructed by my dietician)
  21. I am not a fan of shakes and bars. They never keep me full. I can consume healthy whole foods, keep within my calories and feel more satisfied. (make sure my suggestions fit your plan) Sweet: I eat my meal first and then I dip strawberries or apple in Sugar free Hershey’s cholate or Carmel syrup. Eating my meal first keeps my fruit in smaller portions. Dannon light N fit yogurt. Love the Carmel apple pie flavor. Great calories and protein count. Salad greens, shredded chicken, berries with skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette (Optional a bit of crumbled blue cheese and deiced pecans) Salty: Jerky, chicken fajitas or taco salad (no tortilla) Scrambled egg or egg whites. with jimmy dean turkey sausage, green peppers and onion. Tip egg whites are lower calorie and higher protein count. Fills more space in your sleeve and no guilt. lol This is my dietician’s recipe website for food ideas: https://insidekarenskitchen.com/recipes/bariatric-friendly-recipes/
  22. Once you add sugars and carbs back in your diet, you crave them more. Ugh it's difficult to detox off it and start over. I have to kick my discipline in and accept that I am going to feel crappy and cranky for a while until it’s out of my system. I get temptation out of the house I keep healthy sweet and salty options on hand I set goals and join weight loss challenges for motivation and accountability I log my crappy choices.
  23. People respond to your positivity and increased self-confidence. Healthy is seen as attractive. It’s sad that I feel more valued in society because I am at a healthy weight. I see a difference in how I’m treated. A few things I experienced. Some positive: Strangers look me in the eye and smile more I’ve had attention from the opposite sex, Unnerving at first when you have been invisible. Men hold doors open more often Sales people seem more helpful I’m excepted as a part of the fit gym crowd. Many do not know I was formerly obese. Job opportunity’s/promotions have been offered. Some negative: Some close friends no longer associate with me. It reminds them of their own struggles. I have been judged by a few people in my local support group. (stopped going) I fell in the lower BMI category. Comments. “you didn’t have to work as hard” “working out/running as much as you do is an eating disorder” “if you gained some weight you would look less skeletal” An unsupportive family member “you know you’re just going to gain it back” She is my motivation to never gain it back. Years out, life becomes normal. I don’t notice how differently I’m treated anymore. The compliments and focus on your weight loss are over.
