  1. @@canadian_girl No need to beat yourself up thinking you can do this on you're own. Many of us have dieted, lost weight and regained. For me loosing on my own was not realistic. ( tried it over and over) Living for you're kid's. I think you said it all in that statement. I don't believe risking death is selfish of you. You need to be in you're children's life for the long run. You're kids will get so much back by learning from you're example of what a healthy lifestyle is. They will be so elated to see you happy in you're life and in theirs. (what is selfish about that? ) No complications from obesity now. But how long until you start having more health issues? Enjoy researching surgery options. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.
  2. @@samuelsmom Wow a great perspective on this thanks
  3. Wow. This plate is $11.95 and out of stock until March. lol http://www.ncescatalog.com/Bariatric-Plate--Out-of-Stock-until-March_p_906.html
  4. @@Aribay1 I have tried the only Protein route. Yuck! I felt deprived. I found this on pinterest . 3oz of protein (always eat first) half a cup of vegetables and 2tbs of starch. Eat until the point of fullness. Loved this photo.
  5. @@jinxxy5 You're fitness level is off the chart amazing!
  6. @@jinxxy5 You are my HERO! Bad ass and beautiful.
  7. @@arcticmoonx129 Amazing job by the way! From having body issues from being morbidly obese to having body issues at a healthy weight I can relate. I am working with a therapist to try to get in a better place with my body. I am beyond thrilled with the weight loss. I also did not expect to still feel this way.
  8. @@Aribay1 Wow! You are a busy lady. It's frustrating. But it's all learning as you go. You are weight training so expect some weight fluctuations. Some things to try: I'm no expert just another sleever:) Try limiting you're carbohydrates. (breads rice potato) Carbs trigger hunger. Also slow down weight loss. My dietician instructs to add carbs once you have lost 75% of you're weight. try vegetables with you're Protein. Fiber will help fill you up and low calorie. I snack on veggies and pizza sauce when I cook. That seems to be when I get the munchies. Plan and pack good protein choices and Snacks. They will hopefully keep you satisfied longer than a shake (not that shakes are bad)For some the liquid just does not seem to fill you up. Satisfy cravings. If its salty or sweet have healthy bariatric snacks to get the craving out of the way. Probably things you have already herd. Hunger is different for all of us. I don't think you are doing anything wrong. It might just be finding what works to feel satisfied.
  9. @@jayhawk1965 8 months out Life lines: Local support groups, My doctors and bariatric pal Calories: about 1000 to 1300 Exercise: Five to six days a week an hour of cardio. 3 days a week an hour of strength training Challenges: Trying to settle into the reality that this is my life now. Eating and exercise still are the same for me after goal. Responses to weight loss: Mostly positive and supportive. Opposite sex treat you Very differently. (still strange) Some people are having issues with my weight loss. They are just not comfortable with it. Tips. Stay connected with you're support systems. No secrets do what you're doctors instruct you to do
  10. @@Elode I have to clean my hairbrush after each use. It's not clumps but a small palm full after cleaning my hairbrush. The part down the middle of my hair is where I notice it the most. My hair is so thin. Glad the hair loss is temporary. I'm trying all kinds of things. Hair extensions, Topix , biotine, shampoos and hair regrowth serums. Nothing working . I'm just having fun with it at this point. LOL when I wear extensions they are 22 inch long one's. Go big or go home..lol
  11. @@Elode Mine started at three months out. Its still going at 8 months out. I was told it lasts for 6 months. I'm crossing my fingers.
  12. @@zackly My surgeon suggested the sleeve because I'm a type one diabetic. I was prescribed Lantus and Novalog. I'm now Off Lantus and hardly using the Novalog. I rarely have high blood sugar levels. I now have low blood sugars. With the sleeve I'm still able to have sugar with no dumping syndrome. It helps when the lows hit I can use my glucose tablets. food is still a wonderful part of my life. Love that hunger does not overwhelm me. I can enjoy people around me. Check out the world according to egg face and inside karens kitchen ( Bariatic tab) to see that food is actually still amazing after surgery. Enjoy you're research. I hope you find what is right for you.
  13. @@Taylorla Cpap - Gone! Woohooo! Cholesterol medication - Gone Type one diabetic - Controlled (use very little insulin) Energy- Off the scale Mental heath - Amazing
  14. Liquid fuel also hydrates. Glucose tabs..not so much. other formulas have protein. I'm still looking for the right product to work for me.
  15. @@randoval As a type one diabetic I do have glucose tablets. They contain 4g of carb and 15 calories. They do raise you're blood sugar when you hit a low. After surgery I have had mind numbing low blood sugars. The liquid fuel has 21g of carb and 80 calories. Easy to carry at the gym and my running belt. I'm at the gym for 2 hours I drink them every half hour and keeps the low's at bay. I no longer have to use my glucose tabs after the gym. I'm able to do longer distance run's with out my blood sugar crashing on me. Glad my dietician suggested it
  16. @@tfarr Great advice already posted. I talked with my dietician. Even after eating a meal with carbs and Protein before and after a workout.. My blood sugar hit's major low's. She had me try liquid performance Goo/Energy a half hour into my workout. It is used by distance runners. This is the one I use..But, There are many brands and formulas to try. http://www.powerbar.com/Products/performance-energy-blends-apple-mango-strawberry
  17. @@Tanya Gif i do enjoy restaurants. (someone else cooks I'm happy) A few tips. Pull menu's up online. Helps you to know what they serve and you can make good choices. Most social gatherings have Protein and veggies (but you never know) Offer to bring a dish may help. Find one of you're favorite bariatic friendly recipes to share. It's more about the conversations and enjoying the people around you.
  18. @@GingerLeAnna Great topic.Rewards have bee an amazing thing. I would love to see everyone's reward ideas. Show them if you got them! (1) New make up/care products. I never took the time to work on my appearance before surgery I paint my toe nails now because I can reach them. (2) Clothing. I treat myself to new workout gear and clothing as my size changed. (3) A new closet. At goal I am now buying clothing pieces that I plan to keep. I love my new organized and decorated closet (4) Participating in events. 10K race, Concerts, vacations,Kayaking lessons, snowshoeing etc..Great rewards and staying active
  19. @@Dolores33778 Nice to see people with the similar stats. How are things for you being four years out from surgery?
  20. @@JennG25 Bravo! I wish I would have had the courage to do this when I was your age. I agree with Jamie. This is you're choice. Its going to be amazing.
  21. @@emk101009 Just some things to try: I keep veggies and dip on hand. dips I like pizza sauce or ranch. My hunger kicks in when I cook. The veggies seem to fill me up until meal time. Are there certain things you are craving? Salty or sweet? Keep small snack packs of you're healthy craving items. Sweet sugar free pudding .Salty I do a athens mini filo shell filled with turkey broccoli and white cheddar.
  22. @@Bleachie Welcome to Bariatricpal. So excited for you. What do you plan to do to pass time waiting for surgery?
  23. @@JamieLogical It may be hard. I would not worry. This is not easy and YES the farther out from surgery weight loss will slow down. Continue to work you're program. This will be a life long process even after goal. This is you're new life style and soooo worth it. Time frames do not matter. A healthy you does!
