I wonder what would happen if the US shut "the borders" on these lands and no longer allows importation of goods, dissallows "international" travel, shuts off all utilities, and shuts off all communication lines. I wonder how far this "we are not American anymore" mentaility will go. If they want to be independent, fine, but let's see how far they actually make it on their own. It's a publicity stunt.

I would not say Derick is a neo-Nazi. He is not advocating the death of anyone except those who have shown a overwhelming desire to do the same to him for a dissimilar reason. Radical Muslims want to kill anyone who is not a Muslim. People with Derick's mindset want to kill Muslims for self-preservation, not for the fact they are Muslim. Their adherence to Islam is just a side-effect to who they are. I do not recall Derick advocating the destruction of Jews, Mormons, Hindi, Daoists, Scientologists, ect. I just saw him reacting to a group of people who have declared jihad on him and his kind (anyone not Muslim). I understand his frustration, although I do not, in every case (I would personally help him shoot every member of Hamas and Hezbollah), share his destructive idea. Unless it has been effectively hidden, I do not remember a loud outcry from a lot of Islamic groups for many of the anti-not-muslim attacks in the last couple of decades, nor do I remember a whole lot of gratitude for support given for aid to majority Islamic areas like Indonesia after the tsunami. Hatred is bred from fear and/or ignorance. I would suspect hatred in this case was bred from fear and no one cares enough to not be ignorant, since learning about radical Islamic people doesn't do any good anyway. They'll still want to kill non-believers all the same anyway, so why bother? For those Muslims not wanting to be grouped into "the a-holes we need to kill" category, they'd better be more proactive in their actions/protests against their bretheren, or they run the risk of being considered one in the same.

He was 37. As far as all of the scenarios go; it is still a matter of triage and business. An insurance company that issues out money from a sympathetic point of view is not doing their job. If I have a 17 year old...better yet, let's use my 4 year old daughter as an example. She's sick, and has a 65% chance of living for an additional 6 months with a new liver, and probably about a 10% chance of living an additional year. Also on the list for a new liver is a 38 year old man who has a 98% chance of living an additional 10 years with a new liver, who should get it? My 4 year old is obviously the emotional choice, but she's not the objective one. Of course, if the insurance company wouldn't pay, I'd re-mortgage my house, sell my car, and do whatever else it took to pay for the surgery. That's one item I saw missing from both reported stories.

I don't care much for insurance companies either, but CNN reported one fact ABC did not. The UCLA doctors (the girl's doctors) told Cigna that she had a 65% chance of surviving 6 months with the transplant. While the report did not say so, in cases like this that means the long-term survival outlook was even more grim, and that was WITH the transplant. From a triage standpoint, she was not a viable candidate. While that doesn't make her case any less heart-breaking, there were other candidates who probably had far better long term prognosis with the transplant. Sad story.

5 year weight history is what BCBS used to deny me. I said F that, went ahead as a self-pay, then submitted anyway and have been paid for everything except the hospital stay. So out of a $23k bill, I've ended up paying about $13k. Don't lose hope!!

So, I'm wondering how long it's going to take for her boyfriend to get charged with statutory rape? In Louisiana (where she lives), it is illegal for her boyfriend (he's 19, not 18) to have sex with her. Since he's not a black kid getting a blow job, nothing will probably happen, like it did in Georgia. Just thought I'd stir the pot a little. I don't think anything was wrong in either case, other than a lack of judgement. Certainly nothing criminal.

It boggles my mind how any rational person could seriously believe the earth is 6000 years old and all dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time as humans. It baffles me further that rational people would base this falsehood on a book that is to be believed on faith alone. If the book would have been given to all people of the earth by angels from on high, or if the book mysteriously appeared at the bedside of every newborn, then I might be more inclined to believe its infallibility. Considering its multiple renditions and less than ethical beginning (men chose what it contained and what it did not), to base science on it is indefensible, except by the hopelessly deluded. I am not an atheist, but I am not a blind believer either. Saying the planet is 6000 years old is laughable. The people trying to say the earth is 6000 years old are doing it from a basis of trying to "shoehorn" their science into what they consider a fact: Genesis. Scientists trying to determine how old the is are always striving to learn more and question what is already known. While it is true science is guessing the planet is 5 billion years old, you won't find a single credible scientist who would say the planet is less than, say for argument's sake, 1 million years old. Even with that arbitrary number, I would venture a guess 99.9% of credible scientists would scoff at that idea too. For crying out loud, you don't even need carbon dating to do some of the dating. By measuring sedimentary layers a rough idea of time passage can be done, as well as studying ice cores. The point being, is how can I take seriously a candidate who believes, at his very core, that the points of creationism are indisputable and ignores science? I'm sure he is a very effective preacher and he sounds like a genuinely likeable guy, plus he's a ripper on the guitar, but as President? He'd have had a better chance if the president who preceded him didn't give Evangelicals a bad connotation. 20 years ago I would have never voted for Romney (my Methodist church told me they were a bunch of cultists), but I know better now, and he will likely have my vote. At least he has shown a tendancy to have views more appropriate for the national level.

Mr. United States, United by Christ, is surging in the polls...and to think, the following is what he believes (he does not believe in evolution): The Bible teaches (in Genesis 1:29-30) that the original animals (and the first humans) were commanded to be vegetarian. There were no meat eaters in the original creation. Furthermore, there was no death. It was an unblemished world, with Adam and Eve and animals (including dinosaurs) living in perfect harmony, eating only plants. Sadly, it did not stay this way for very long. Adam rebelled against his Creator, bringing sin into the world (Genesis 3:1-7; Romans 5:12). Because of this rebellion, Adam, and thus all of his descendants (you and me), gave up the right to live with a Holy (sinless) and just God. God therefore judged sin with death. The Bible plainly teaches from Genesis to Revelation that there was no death of animals or humans before Adam sinned. (Consider just a few of the many passages, such as: Romans 5:12; Genesis 2:17; Genesis 1:29-30; Romans 8:20-22; Acts 3:21; Hebrews 9:22; I Corinthians 15; Revelation 21:1-4; Revelation 22:3.) This means there could not have been any animal fossils (and no dinosaur bones) before sin. After Adam’s sin, animals and people started to die. It was now a different world, one of death and strife. A world that was once beautiful now suffered under the curse placed upon it by the Creator (Genesis 3:14-19). But a promise was given (Genesis 3:15) that God would provide a way for the penalty of sin to be paid so there would be a way for man to come back to God. Why Do We Find Dinosaur Fossils? In Genesis 6, we read that all flesh (man and animals) had ‘corrupted his way upon the Earth’ (Genesis 6:12). Perhaps people and animals were killing each other; maybe dinosaurs had started killing other animals and humans. In any case, the Bible describes the world as ‘wicked.’ Because of this wickedness, God warned a godly man named Noah that He was going to destroy the world with a Flood (Genesis 6:13). God therefore commanded him to build a great ship (the Ark) so that all the kinds of land animals (which must have included dinosaurs) and Noah’s family could survive on board while the Flood destroyed the entire Earth (Genesis 6:14-20). Some people think that dinosaurs were too big, or there were too many of them, to go on this Ark. However, there were not very many different kinds of dinosaurs. There are certainly hundreds of dinosaur names, but many of these were given to just a bit of bone or skeletons of the same dinosaur found in other countries. It is also reasonable to assume that different sizes, varieties, and sexes of the same kind of dinosaur have ended up with different names. For example, look at the many different varieties and sizes of dogs, but they are all the same kind-the dog kind! In reality, there may have been fewer than 50 kinds of dinosaurs. God sent two of every (seven of some) land animal into the Ark (Genesis 7:2-3; 7:8-9)—there were no exceptions. Therefore, dinosaurs must have been on the Ark. Even though there was ample room in the huge ship for large animals, perhaps God sent young adults into the Ark that still had plenty of room for them to grow. Well, what happened to all the land animals that did not go on the Ark? Very simply, they drowned. Many would have been covered with tons of mud as the rampaging Water covered the land (Genesis 7:11-12,19). Because of this quick burial, many of the animals would have been preserved as fossils. If this happened, you would expect to find evidence of billions of dead things buried in rock layers (formed from this mud) all over the Earth. This is exactly what you do find. By the way, the Flood of Noah’s day probably occurred just over 4,500 years ago. Creationists believe that this event formed many of the fossil layers around the Earth. (Additional fossil layers were formed by other floods as the Earth settled down after the great Flood.) Thus, the dinosaur fossils which were formed as a result of this Flood were probably formed about 4,500 years ago, not millions of years ago. Somehow, believing the crap above makes me worried about his ability to be the President. Call me kooky.

My surgery was at 9:30 a.m., and I walked out, finally, at 8:30 p.m. I could have walked out at 4, if they would have let me. Hospital charged me for 24 hour stay though, as it is their minimum. That was a nice little $13k stick in the eye.

Some people just don't "get it." My personal trainer is awesome; the nutritionist at my gym? Not so much. When I told him my nutritional needs, he said, "My girlfriend is overweight and she mentioned getting surgery. I told her if she did, I'd break up with her." A-hole then went into a story about how he has helped her lose 50 pounds in the last year, blah, blah, blah. Whatever. He's a control freak and I never used him for anything past the initial free consultation, nor will I use him in the future. A weight loss adventure is just like a vacation. Take friends along from the beginning, because few others, including your friends, will understand or care about the path you went on, if you went alone.

hatmama....PB is a nice way of saying "vomit." You would be expelling both gas and food with a PB. A PB is usually, but now always, preceded by sliming, which is described earlier in this thread. Neither one is a lot of fun to experience. Rice is what gets me. Oh, and after my second fill, grits kicked my ass. It'll be a while before I try either one of those again.

sweaty? Nope. Now I am freezing all of the time. I used to go outside, in the middle of winter, with no jacket on. Not anymore!! The protective blubber is too thin now!!

My personal trainer gave me the best advice ever last week, when I was a little hesitant about talking about my band. He said, "Don't ever feel embarrassed about your band, and ignore people who ever try to bring you down over choosing surgery. You did what you had to do for yourself, and no one else can understand your decision. You are getting thin; you are looking great, so fuck 'em if they don't like it." Great words, especially coming from a guy who weighs 185 with about 8% body-fat and says he's never had a day in his life where he has worried about his weight.

I know the feeling about people not paying enough attention, when you talk about sizes and such. My mom asked me about clothes for this holiday season, and I said get me size L (down from XXXL and XXL), as I am getting a lot smaller, and I will continue to. Well, she went ahead and got me XL shirts which are almost too loose now, much less what they are going to be like in 2-3 months. Oh well. At least I'll have a fun time getting an entirely new wardrobe, after New Years!!

I've had three surgeries, and here are my experiences. 1. Wisdom teeth, in the oral surgeon's office, and I "woke up" heard people talking, heard the doctor get irritated at someone for me being awake, then back to happy-land...never felt any pain. 2. I had a deviated septum fixed in an ambulatory care center (strip-mall surgery). It was one moment "lights-on" to "lights-out" back to "lights-on". Unlike the wisdom teeth surgery, I never felt any passage of time. The surgery was about an hour, with some pretty invasive things done (think of dozens of sutures inside your nose...not nice) and I only remember the doctor talking to me prior to surgery, then asking me loudly to wake up, when it was over. I was already in recovery. It was weird as I felt I had only blinked my eyes and it was over. 3. Lap-band. First time I've ever been wheeled into an operating room. It was a bit scary, and it was DAMN cold. I was freezing, and the warm blankets were a nice touch. Anesthesiologist told me I'd go down soon, and so I did. Time passed for me in this surgery, and I can't swear to it, but I think I remember gagging on a tube as I woke up, then the next thing I remember I was in recovery. The gagging on a tube thing was fuzzy enough of a memory that I didn't bring it up to the doctor, but I did have a sore throat, so maybe I wasn't just dreaming.

I'm a non-Mormon, and Romney is my front-runner. His religion is a non-point, because he's still a minority. He'd never be able to get a "Mormon agenda" going with the government set up like it is. Huckabee, on the other hand, is one scary mo-fo. His vision of the United States, "united under Christ" is terrifying, and his conviction that evolution does not exist is just ass-backwards.

" Actually, you'd be subtly predjudiced. Racism is defined as using a position of power to exert power over another person, based on race. Having a pejorative view is not the same thing. A person can be hopelessly predjudiced and still not be a racist. Here is an example: A white policeman pulling over someone for being BWD (Black While Driving) is a racist. The policeman's wife saying she likes her husband pulling over black people because she hates n*****s is a predjudiced bit@h, but she is not a racist. The distiniction is needed, when having a discussion over race. I heard this distinction outlined by a black radio host, and it stuck with me. He said racism and racist are terms not to be overused, as they lose their meaning.

That's just wrong on so many levels. It's one thing to be attracted to someone you shouldn't(hell, I've got some smokin' cousins), but it is entirely another to actually proposition someone you KNOW you should not be talking to in such a manner. That is just crass beyond belief. To bad when he asked you for a threesome you didn't say, "Why would you want to disappoint two women at the same time?" :scared:

A couple of quick points: There is no war in Iraq or Afghanistan. There is an occupation. There is no such thing as a nebulous war, like "The War on Terrorism" or "The War on Drugs." Call it what it is. Taking proactive steps against items we do not like. I don't mind that. I don't even mind a lot of what we are doing, other than the fact it should have never been started...that's a different discussion. Calling it a war, however, pisses me off to no end considering my penchant for studying history. In addition, if we are truly going to continue down the idiotic road of "pre-emptive war" to meet our national goals, then please stop calling our defense budget by that name and start calling it the offense budget. It's just semantics, but since this administration likes semantics such as "enhanced interrogation techniques" over such succinct terms as "torture," then having an offense budget makes sense or even "Enhanced Democratic Thuggary Budget." Just because we are right doesn't make it right to impose our will. In their mind they are right too. We need to go back to "talk softly and carry a big stick" days. Let them talk smack all day long, but if someone attacks us then we obliterate them. Don't bomb, invade, and occupy. Obliterate. Sand makes nice glass.
