coughing and port pain
Yeah, it was defeintly weird. Maybe it was just the noises some say their band makes when food starts going through. I mean I did go from totally empty there, it could have been a shock. Hasn't done it today, and the port area isn't hurting anymore when I cough either. Now I just have to worry about peeing my pants when I cough really bad. One thing about being sick...not hungry...so trying to eat like I'm supouse to and stay away from the carbs. Can't drink Water right now though, it has a "funky" taste, probally because I'm sick, but been drinking decaf, sugar free tea and sobe lean drinks. melissa

What does restriction feel like?
I know you are joking about the margaritas, but I had a small glass of wine at a christmas party and OH MY did I get a major buzz. Alcohol I think I might give up forever. I was afraid to walk across the room in my heels cause I felt like I was going to stagger....I didn't even drink the whole glass. On the protien shakes...I'm thinking the first couple of weeks after surgery I was drinking like just a couple of oz at time, but like every 2 hours. I don't think I would have EVER been able to drink a whole shake. Get a cute shot glass to drink it out of. Good luck and Congrats on your surgeries. Melissa

Newly Banded And Not Sure I Did The Right Thing!!!!!!
If you like coffee frappachinos...try this: a scoop of your favorite chocolate (or vanilla) protien shake a teaspoon of instant decaf coffee however much milk you are suppouse to add to the protien shake (I liked carb countdown had just a bit more protien...every bit helps) a few ice cubes (you can actually freeze a batch of protien shake for this and get MORE protien in..thats what I did ...I actually used the vanilla that i didn't like much.) Put it all in a blender and blend till nice and frothy. I thought it tasted pretty good, almost like a coffee shop one. Good luck, I know it seems tough now...but in a month you will be feeling differently. I think part of it is we get all excited and worked up about having the surgery, we don't anticipate the recovery phase too well. And as far as exercise, I was walking quite a bit but I wore those sports tops...the ones like a cami that are a bit snug and it helped with the whole jiggling port area. You might could loose wrap like an ace type of bandage around the area just when exercising if its really uncomfortable. For me the port area was the longest to heal. Melissa

Charlotte January Chat Time
Oh Gawd, Kristen is trying to kill me. I bought the kids take out mexican tonight. And kristen had some of the massive burrito left over and offered me a bite. I know how good these are. The sauce was sitting open on the table and I dipped it in the sauce and took a bite. The sauce was so hot I think it fried my insides. I coughed so hard spitting out what I had just tried to eat and peed my pants. I thought I was going to die right then and there. And I'm no wimp when it comes to spicey stuff. Come to find out...she didn't eat any of the sauce. Then why was it open I asked and she says "I dunno" I don't trust that innocent nonchallant look. It cleared out my sinus at least, though I think I popped a couple of blood vessels trying to get over the coughing. I think I'm going to have to start wearing depends if this cough doesn't get better. Melissa

Insurance
I have United Health Care choice plan and had no promblems getting coverage. If you go to, I think Obesity Help.com you can look up I think NC lap band doctors and then you can see what insurance companies their patients that are registered had. But like someone else said, its probally based more on the particular plan than the company. Good luck Melissa

I've got this grumply burby, poppy thing going on right now...it sometimes feels like its in the stomach area...but other times it feels higher up on my chest on my left side. Is this the bronchitis stuff or is it just some weird band thing I haven't experienced yet. I went from eating pretty much nothing...so empty stomach to have about 4 oz of fish and a broccolli spear. That was around 3 o'clock. I have had drink since then...and it seems to go down fine. Melissa

Scaleobessionism
My scale does that. I bought it at bed bath and beyond YEARS ago. But know that it will change your bmi with your hydration level. All the little pad sensor ones do. So say you checked it going to the gym and then leaving....it would be different on the scale, but not really in actuality..ya know? It drives me nuts though...just like the other numbers on the scale, but I've managed to ignore that one, except once a week. Melissa

coughing and port pain
Right now...and for the past hour or two I've had this "gurgly burpy kinda jumpy sensation" and its driving me nuts...I'm not sure if it's bronch related or band related. It sometimes feels like its in the stomach area but others feels like its a little higher up, but still on that side. Its got me a bit worried...and hubby who knows me well said not to get worked up about it. It doesn't hurt just feels odd and unfamiliar. I ate real food for the first time since being sick today...Had about 3 oz of fish, and a piece of broccolli...I imediatly decided the broccoli was not going to feel right so didn't eat anymore. Scaleobessionism
Hi I'm Melissa and I admit to being a scaleaholic. I'm not as bad as I used to be. I used to weigh myself EVERYTIME i went to the bathroom. Always take off shoes, never with wet hair. And of course the morning ritual of going to bathroom stripping naked and checking the scale is standard practice. My husband has threatened to get rid of it if I didn't stop stressing over it. My solution, stress quietly so he doesn't know, and I loose my addictive aide. Years ago when I did weight watchers on really bad weeks, I'd try on different outfits to see which weighed more on me....so I could wear the lightest possible attire to be weighed there. And on weight in days didn't eat or drink anything after 2pm. Yep got my membership card right here, nice shiney gold one that the really serious addicts get. Melissa

coughing and port pain
Thats basically what the nurse told me today when I called the office. It's more likely to move the band than the port...but thats only in extreme cases. She told me to get som Mucinex to help loosen up the crud I'm trying to cough up. She thought I'd be alright as long as I didn't have any gagging type of coughs. So far so good, but now I'm paranoid. LOL She said if I was still having port area pain after the cough cleared up then they would check the port. I hope this cough doesn't last too long...I really want to get a fill soon. Melissa

Karan: Thats great news on possibly getting things scheduled soon. And lexapro, worked well for Kristen a couple of years back. The doctor prescribed it for her specifically because its one of the only anti depressents that doesn't cause weight gain. Kristen has weaned off of it now...and I think all her moody stuff is normal teen stuff. Anyone want a teen? This morning her dad joked at her and she snapped...or growled "I'm not in the mood" Uh hello? Diane I started the one over in the Journal section....I can go there and talk to myself all day long...LOL Karah's doctors office had new murals all over the office when we went the last few times and it made me think of you...you have did any peds offices recently have you? Kim, how is curtis? Is he feeling better today? I hope the little guy gets feeling well soon. Angie, you feeling back to normal yet? And no popping anymore staples do controlled cheering for the panthers. Karah did something totally funny yesterday, apparently they started teaching them about nutrition at school. They brought home a really nice kit with flash cards, a video and workbook. Well she went and watched the video, while watching it she kept coming and asking for food. I figured she still doing her restock thing from not eatting much for two weeks. I go and check...and she has carrot sticks, apples and peanutbutter crackers all lined up in front of her two favorite stuffed animals. She was telling them if you don't eat this your lungs will be sick like mine. I laughed so hard I caused a coughing attack. Of course she ate so many "snacks" herself yesterday afternoon that she didn't have to eat the "intersting" stir fry Kristen made. LOL Oh and I talked to Dr. Baumans office...I so love them. They told me I wasn't likely to hurt my port by the coughing...but I could actually hurt the band if I had gagging coughs...which I don't. She recomended Mucinex that will help disloge the crap and let me get it coughed up. And if I still hurt after I'm better from the cough then they can check my port if I'm concerned. So if the cable repair guy ever gets here, I'll go to the drug store for some Mucinex. Melissa

No help for the wicked
My mom used to do stuff like that too. Who do you think put me on my first diet at 12. Who bought me the diet pills that eventually made me ill in my teens? Then guess what would be considered an afternoon snack when she didn't have me dieting? A hotdog. Not a apple...there was NEVER fruit in our house it seemed...and if there was it was mom's plums or peaches...not for us. My mom had a weight problem all her life and decided that she was going to fix me before I got too fat....in acutalty...I think she helped create the problem by forcing the yo yo dieting so early on. Congrats on your surgery. Melissa

The one piece of clothing every plus size girl needs?
A good bra defiently. It's the one thing I don't buy cheap anymore. I used to really like layne Bryants...and still do they last a long time. But my new favorite.....Fredricks of Hollywood's Water bra...they make them up to a D cup...can you believe it. It does better perking those babies up than any other bra I've tried. And though I've lost volume, when I roll them up they are still about the same size. :faint:I used to buy underwear, bras and panties once or twice a year when layne bryant had thier big bra and pantie sale. And I did just spend 60 bucks on panties from the last one. Yep the water bras will have to do me till I can get these babies fixed later I guess. Gotta get the tummy happening first though. Melissa

just a bit narotic.....
How come I can be so narotic....I'm up searching the boards looking for someone else that thinks their port could be screwed up by too much coughing. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow just to set my mind at ease..cause this fretting is going to drive me to divorce....poor hubby. Other than the cough and the sworeness that comes with it...I'm feeling much better. If I get through the night without a fever I think I'll be home free.

No help for the wicked
Don't know why this is the first time I've read this...since its be bumped so many times...but hey thanks for keeping it bumped. When I finally decided to have surgery my primary care doctor wasn't on board. Why? Because obviously I could just diet and loose. I had to take in a YEARS worth of fitness records I had kept, exercising between 1.5 - 2 hours a day, 5 days a week and not loosing weight. Part of that time I was on one of the national programs. (not weight watchers...i think highly of that program) and the counsler had told me when I wasn't loosing weight even though I was eating exactly what they said....Oh you are exercising too much. I trained for a marthon....how much weight did I loose....a couple of lbs...nothing to justify the amount of work I was doing. I was walking not running...but its amazing how much advice the fit runners thought they needed to share with my 250lb self. Had any of them EVER been 100lbs overweight? Maybe..but none of them claimed that. Finally after much detailed journalling on my food and exercise my doctor thought...Hey....you might have some kinda of promblem. How many years I had I been going to this doctor? about 10 years. How many of those years had I been asking for weight loss help and showing frustration...probally all 10 years. When he found the thyroid promblem...he said...ah now you will lose weight. Like it was some type of magic pill. He still resisted the idea of surgery....why because I was SOOOO young, and could still diet. HELLO, I've been dieting since the age of 12! People that don't have a weight issue...really do NOT understand. Melissa

coughing and port pain
Anyone know if excessive coughing ( I have bronchitis right now) can cause port promblems? Right now thats the ONLY area that hurt...well besides my throat. But my port area...its very bruised feeling. I told hubby about it...and of course he thinks I'm stressing over nothing. I'm 3 months out...so the port should be firmly in place by now right? Thanks for any imput on my silly question. LOL Melissa

Charlotte January Chat Time
I've been grumpy frumpy today...and part of its been the stress over the last few weeks. San Fran was great, but it made coming back to the teenager not getting out of bed for school and the 5 year constantly "bugging" her all the harder. Then I got mad because I lost weight...how funny is that. But the only reason I lost weight was because I'm eating NADA because I'm sick. Then I was like...in four months I have only lost 35lbs. I stressed over this for awhile. Then I like went over and checked out the reunion board on obesity help. Everyone there kept posting...at my 3 month check up (back to that in a sec) I lost 53lbs or 58lbs or...you get the picture. So i sulked more. Then it hit me..they said 3 months...so got looking and I'm not 4 months I'm 3 months. And I went back and looked and NONE of those that had posted were lapband patients. I don't visit obesity help as much as I used to...and forget its mostly rny patients. So I'm embracing the 35lbs which comes out to just a little over 11lb a month. I'm going to stop grumping and ask for a fill next week. I'm going to be thankful that I'm loosing and not gaining as I did in the months waiting for the surgery. I started one of those journals to grump into that Kathy mentioned. Kathy thanks for knocking some reason into me today...your nsv list is amazing. Diane you are always so supportive..thanks girl Kim, you are doing great, I keep wanting to do as well as you guys I"m glad Curtis is feeling better. My fever is down but the coughing is driving me nuts. My port area hurts...I hope I haven't coughed something wrong. Melissa

Just Scheduled. ?? after reading posts.
The only time I can't really eat bread is in the mornings. I'm very careful about what I eat in the mornings. Of course what I should be is very careful about HOW i eat what I eat in the mornings, because that's really the promblem. In the mornings I'm usually running about getting ready for work, getting the kids ready for school and I just don't conciouslly eat slowly enough and tend to get stuck easily. For me, a cup of decaf with 1/2 cup carb countdown gets in some protien and goes down fine. Then about 10 when I can slow down I grab a small snack. Lately that has been cheese, but I think I'm getting cheesed out. Now what I can eat according to the nutritionist is a whole different story, and I always leave feeling like I'm doing horriblly. Even though I'm not the fastest looser, I've lost 30 something pounds in just over 3 months. Thats better than couple a lbs a month I was gaining pre band. I haven't had a fill yet...so maybe the whole things I can't eat will change then...but I'm willing to sacrifice some food choices for continued weight loss. Unfortuantly chocolate always goes down easy. Melissa

In the funk
Not sure how this journal thing works...but going to see if it helps. I'm in a funk, first step is admiting it right? I admit I've been stressed lately. Immediatly after enduring the Mother in law....who no doubt is the most judgemental condecending woman alive, Karah, my 5 year old develops a cold. Oh great..and I suppouse to take my very first plane trip to San Fransico with hubby within the week. So turns out she has Pneumonia, but seems better so off I go to San Fransico...which was wonderful and one of the most freeing trips I think I have ever been on. Mostly, because I was on my own during the day to travel around a strange city using public transportation all on my very own. I've never done ANYTHING like that before. It was great to see, hey...I am capable. I know that sounds silly. Okay so get home, Karah is still sick, the dog has hurt his tail and had to go to the vet, and then I'm sick. I'm a little angry that all the work I've been doing to loose weight and nothing happens until I get sick. Then a friend points out I gotta look at nsv...so I start trying to find some. Isn't it funny how you can't think of any when you are looking for them? So I'm pldeging to myself...I will start posting my nsv in this journal. And once I'm over this cold, I'll start posting my food journal too.
