  1. April - Sorry to hear about the falling out with your roomates. I hope you find a nice, inexpensive place for you and your daughter. I went for all my blood work yesterday. The woman had to stick me 3 times because she couldn't get a good flow. They took 7 tubes of blood from me! I had know idea they were taking that much. I am waiting for the surgery center to call me back with those results and schedule my seminar that I have take on eating with the lapband. I am on my way and very excited! I don't know how I am going to live my life without the foods that I am used to eating but I am ready to get rid of the control that food has over me! I just can't wait until the day that I can walk into a none plus sized clothing store and buy whatever it is that I want.
  2. I try to remind him everyday that I love him and how wonderful our life is going to be once I've lost the weight. We were talking the other day about getting bikes and riding the bike trail. I would NEVER put myself on a bike right now but by spring of next year I am sure I will feel differnt about that. I've also mentioned that sex would be better as well. He knows that I am not comfortable with myself and because of that my sex drive in pretty much non-existant. I've told me several times that once I start feeling better about myself I am sure that it will increase and of course all those differnt positions I will be able to get into. lol I guess that's all I can do is just reassure him over and over again that I love him and that I am doing this for us, our family, not just me.
  3. I am to be banded on November 1st and my husband had been very supportive. When I first looked into be being banded my insurance did not cover it. I decided at that time I could not afford another loan. It's been a year since then and my husband and I were discussing the possibilty of taking out a loan again. I called the local surgery center and they ran my insurance. To my surprise BCBSF is now covering lapband. I was very excited and booked my first consultation. Now that the date is getting closer my husband has been making comments towards me about it. He will say things to dicourage me and then make comments that I will leave him when I lose the weight. He was really supportive in the begining and was just as excited as me. Now, I he is becoming very insecure, defensive and worried that I am going to up and leave for some hot, new guy! I keep telling him that I am not having this surgery to start my life all over. I am doing this so I can enjoy the life that I have. Have any of your husbands/wives felt this way? How do I convince him that I am not going anywhere. We have been married for 3 years, have a 2 year old daughter and great family so I don't know where he is getting this from. Thanks! Vanessa
  4. Hey Swimmer! Where were you banded? I am having mine on Nov 1st by doctor Warden of Surgical Specilists of Louisiana. I'm not sure about the whole band slipping but that does make me nervous as well. I am excited about being banded but nervous as well. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out.
  5. Hey everyone! I am planning to be banded on November 1st. Went for my first consultation yesterday and I don't need anything but blood work done. My insurance has to approve of course but he said that should only take about a week. He told me to pick any Thursday starting in October so I am thinking November 1st would be the best for me. I am soooo excited and nervous at the same time. My, how my life is going to change! Have any of you been told of a pre-op diet? My doctor said that it's not necessary. Well, good luck to you all !
  6. I had my consultation with the doctor who will doing my lapband today. He seemed very nice and everything is a go. I don't need any test run and as soon as my insurance approves the procedure I will be on my way. I am shooting for November 1st. I am really excited! I can't wait! I've read on here that some people were put on pre op diets but he said that I don't need to be on one. Please tell me your suggestions about this. Thanks! Vanessa
  7. 2-3 Weeks..That is quick! My insurance will be covering it so I am sure it will take longer than that. I'm not sure if my job is going to let me take some time without pay to get it done this year. I may have to wait until next year when I have vacation time. I am going to talk to my boss about it after my consultation.
  8. Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa and I am in Covington, LA. I was born and raised in St. Bernard Parish, I'm sure you all know what Katrina did there. Anyway, I have my first consultation with Dr. Warden of Surgical Specialists of Louisiana. How long did it take you from first consultation to being banded?
  9. Tricia K. I am having my first consultation with Dr. Warden on Septemeber 21st in Covington. How has your experience with Surgical Specialists of Louisana been? Vanessa
  10. I have my first consultation on September 21st with Dr. Warden of Surgical Specialists of Louisiana. Anyone else out there know about this doctor or office? Thanks! Vanessa
  11. Just wanted to see if there was anyone out there from the New Orleans area. I have my first consultation on September 21st with Dr. Warden of Surgical Specialists of Louisiana and was wondering if there was anyone out that may have used this docotor. Thanks! Vanessa
  12. Good luck on making a decision whether or not to get banded. I am sure you will choose what is best for you. From what I have heard you can not eat and drink at the same time. I've even heard that you should wait until about an hour after eating to have something to drink. The reason behind this is that the liquid you digest will just flush the food right down defeating the whole purpose of the lapband.
  13. I think I have told everyone I possibly could have about it, except for the people at work. Everyone I have told is in total support of me. I am going to tell my co-workers about it all after my consultation. I wont be able to have the surgery until next year because I don't have any vacation time until then.
  14. Wow! So nobody at your work knows about the lap band? They are going to be shocked when they start seeing all the pounds coming off. I am with you on the getting up and moving around. I had a c-section in 05' and the next day I was up and running all over the hospital. The nurses and my family kept telling me that I needed to take it easy but I just wanted to get back to my normal self. I had a fast recovery from that so I am sure I will do good with the lap band.
  15. Thank you for that information Jenn! I going to print those questions out right now. I've noticed that you were banded a week ago. How is the healing process? I am looking to only be out of work for a week so I was just wondering if that was possible.
  16. Hello everyone! My name is Vanessa and I am new to this board. About a year and half ago I looked into to lap band but my insurance didn't cover it and I couldn't afford. Since then I have gained more weight and I've now decided it's time. I started to look into the process and to my surprise my insurance will now cover it! :whoo: I have a BMI of 44 and I have my first consultation with the Surgical Specialist of Louisiana on September 21st. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should ask the doctor? Also, how long was it from your first consultation to the day you had the surgery? Thank you in advance for your replies and I hope to become a frequent visitor.
