getnhealthyintx reacted to AR40 in Things I won't miss...
Had to add a few to the list:
I won't miss having others assume I am dumb because I'm fat.
I won't miss trying to make myself small so they don't notice how big I am.
I won't miss hating myself all the time and blaming all things on weight when I know it's not true.
    I won't miss feeling invisible.
This was hard to write but I'm glad I did...

I'm new to the site as well. I'm scheduled for the sleeve surgery on May 13th, 2014 and I'm a nervous wreck, but excited at the same time! I haven't told many people because I've gone through the process before, and after I was approved for the surgery by my surgeon, I discovered that my insurance wouldn't cover it. However, now, I'm back on track and I've only told those who have been supportive. Many of my friends aren't happy that I'm having surgery and it's upsetting because I just need everyone to be supportive about it because I'm excited. I've struggled my entire life with my weight and health and this is finally something that would make me happier and most importantly, healthier. I'm also concerned about how I'll be treated by people once the weight starts to come off rapidly. I spoke with someone who said some of her friends became very distant... I'm hoping that doesn't happen to me.

Fear of negative comments was a major reason I didn't want to tell anyone I was having surgery. If I could have, I'd have done the whole process without anyone ever finding out. But I was surprised that my parent's first reaction was one of support when I told them.
But I believe some people make negative comments and want to hold you back because they don't want to be left behind. If you don't succeed, then they can feel better about their own failures.
Now that I'm more than a year post-surgery, I don't feel any twinge of regret and telling people is no big deal. I've never had a negative comment about my surgery, but if I do get a negative comment, I'm just going to tell them that I needed surgery because I couldn't lose the weight on my own. I was waaaay past fixing my weight problem by switching to diet Coke! And if they feel they can lose the weight through diet and exercise, then good for them.

So I told my cousin I was getting this surgery done & she flat out said how stupid I'm being & how all I need to do is exercise & eat healthier. What I find funny is she is overweight herself & is criticizing me & my choice to become healthier. I've struggled with weight issues since a child & so has she, so for her to tell me that.. Really pisses me off. I told her maybe I should try another diet pill or two & see if that worked then gain the weight back just like her. All she said was "well it works I'm not that big!" I don't want to say she is "Jealous" but it feels like it everytime the topic is brought up. She is one of my closest cousins but has always been very greedy & self absorbed but she is my cousin. I know I don't need her approval or anything it's just very irritating to hear her negativy. I gues she just won't hear anymore about it even though she is the one to ask all the time. Anybody else have someone like this around? Luckily another cousin of mine has had the lap band surgery & is completely supportive & has been successful! So I guess it sort of balances out..

First things is realize you are human and mistakes will happen, don't get down and especially don't let it convince you to give up. You didn't get to this point over night and you can't fix it overnight. We all had cheats of some sort preop and postop but the important thing is to realize your mistakes and learn from them. Good Luck, and stay positive.

I'm a newbie here, but here goes.....
I've always felt 'chubby' even at 145 in my high school days compared to all my 115lb friends. Time passed, I was a size 8/10 in my twenties, then I met my husband and have ballooned to 215! I LOVE fashion, love clothes, love to shop.....well I DID. I'm tired of dieting and never losing, I can't even call myself a yoyo dieter because I never lose! I lost 2 lbs one month and gained it back in a weekend! So this is a gift to myself....my consult is scheduled Jan 8 - I'm a self pay and I believe every penny of it will be the best money I EVER spent. I can't wait to shop again and wear heels. I'm tired of being the 'fat girl with a pretty face' - WOO that felt good to let out!!!!!!!

Many straws: Here are a few...
    1) falling and not being able to get up off the floor
    2) watching the EMT's faces when they lifted me and knowing what they would say to each other later.
    3) Husband left after 38 years of marriage.
    4) Not one response on Match.com
    5) Being treated like a 2nd class citizen at the doctors office.
    6) Looking at photos of myself
    7) Wheelchair at big airports.
    8) Having to stop when climbing steps.
    9) Airline and theater seats.
    10) Always being charming and "jolly"...that's what fat girls do.

Hello all! Mysurgery is scheduled for May 3rd in Tijuana with Dr Valenzuela at Hospital MI Doctor. She only required me to do a 7 day pre op diet but none the less I am currently climbing the walls. I never imagined how hard this would be. Lol. But it will all be worth it!!!
    Good luck to you all!!!!

10 months post-op update! 95 pounds down, 3 lbs to go to get to original goal, 8 pounds to get to new goal. I know it's not a great pic, but I seriously need to invest in a full length mirror (now that I don't hate looking at myself--ha!). Oh, and excuse my mess!!!

I have a regular dr. pepper once in a while with no problem. For those that want the taste without the carbonation, go to Sonic and order a diet (whatever soda) made into a slush. They make it into an icee type drink using the flavored Syrup, but not the carbonation. It taste the same, and has the same caffine without the bubbles. Just a word or warning though there are a few calories in the slush mix, but not enough to derail your progress. I lived on diet dr pepper slush with cherry and vanilla when I was on the liquid only phase in the first days post-op. The cold liquids helped with swelling and also kept me hydrated.
