auntjanny reacted to MichiganChic in 5 months and rocking it out! from Michigan
That's a good way to look at it! When I had my sleeve in December 2012, I made it my business to make 2013 all about ME. It worked really well for me, lol! So then, I also made 2014 all about me, and I still like it. My family is used to it
Good luck on that pre op diet, it's important, and I know you'll do it! I was on liquids for two weeks because my BMI was so high, and they said it would shrink my liver. I found it difficult, but I did it without cheating, and it gave me the strength I needed to know that I could handle what was to come. I really didn't know if I had it in me before that, and I found that success begets success. The better I did, the more I learned I DO have what it takes. Now, at almost 2 years out, I need to draw on that experience because it gets much harder the longer you are out from surgery.

auntjanny got a reaction from stephh in Sleeved on Monday 9/22. What I wish I had known!
I am happily home sipping on Crystal Light. I was sleeved robotically on Monday. I have read a few WLS books, been a frequent reader here at BP, and have attended support group x2. I was not prepared, as stupid as it sounds, for how huge a surgery this was!! My post op groggy lasted almost 20 hours, so I feel as if I lost some time and was behind the eight ball.
Getting up and walking was easy. I was given a belly binder and that helps keep all the pieces to gether. Walking cannot be over emphasized. It moves the excess gas all around decreasing back pain, or wherever it chooses to manifest itself.
Bring as little to the hospital as possible. Chapstick. It cannot be overemphasized!! just bring chapstick. I wore the same clothes home that I arrived in and that made things simple.
Do the deep breathing and coughing. I developed a fever pretty quickly that was over 100 and it was an added distraction. My blood sugar went up to 199 so I was put on insulin. Despite no history of diabetes, this is not uncommon.
Truly, each "day" gets better. significantly better. The nausea was so terrible I could not imagine it going away, but, I have not had an issue with it since home.
    Best wishes to all.

I am 5' (first thing in morning), surgery this Monday. It is impossible for me to imagine at this point smaller sizes. My closet lacks a single piece of clothing that is "too big" on me. This could be really fun!!

    @FedUpwithBeingFat
I understand completely. I felt happy, excited, nerous and a bit terrified the night before surgery. Still, it was the best decision I've made relative to long term health because diabetes runs in my family. Three pieces of advice: 1) start right away to walk as often and for as long as your body tolerates. It kept my soreness to a minimum and helped work out the anesthesia from my system. 2) Rest. Your body will need time to recover. Give yourself a break so it can put itself back together. 3) Give yourself time to adjust mentally to your new portion sizes. It looks ridiculous to see a few spoonfuls on a plate. It's stupid to admit this but when I see so little food I start to rebel mentally. I need to switch to saucer or salad plates but for the time being when I think I'm going to have a hard time, I drink a Protein shake instead. I beats dishing up enough food for the old me and then having to put it back.
Good luck tomorrow. Please post when you can to share your progress. I'll think of you tomorrow!

I had 6 month required. No gains was the key. I lost very little. Learned so much the last 6 months. No regrets for the wait. I feel as if "I gotz this" is written across my soul. The mental prep over the last 6 months has been HUGE and helpful!!

Luana, the stomach is located behind the liver sorta. The dr would like your liver to shrink so it's easier to navigate around it making the surgery safer for you. Be glad, I didn't even get one real small meal. I was on two weeks of all liquids only. I lost 10 lbs in two weeks.

I am scheduled for Monday also. Surgery at 1000. It is a scary thing to thing of happening to your body. Take the other advise listed and think of the benefits. We will be able to live again and be happy! My fear is the surgery and recovery itself. I am ready for the changes. Think positive. We will be fine. Looking forward to your post postoperative.

Hey kindle...it's not that we have negative people in our lives. Well at least in my case..I know people in my life would be supportive my not telling many people is a personal choice we have made because we don't think it's many people's business and would rather not hear the negative if they have something to say...I have tried to lose weight for about 10 years and have been up and down more times then I can count, so I don't think I'm "taking the easy way out" or "giving up" like some are afraid to hear I just don't think it's anyone's business what I choose to do with my
Life and how I choose to improve it

Also! Remember that the better you do pre-op, typically the better you'll do post op. Use this time to prepare your mind and get in a mode of eating to sustain your body, to feed it vital nutrients, especially Protein. You want to maintain a status quo, not gain or go backward right before surgery!

There are those folks in this forum who can expess the need for counselling with your doctors and nutritionist much more eloquenty and clinically than I can, so I will move on to what my original thought was when I first read your post.
Perhaps you need to think of the next phases not as a pre-op liquid diet and a high Protein diet bereft of your former culinary favorites, but as war! You are literally in a fight for your life (and your quality of life) until you reach your expiration date. Those of us who are in our sixties can attest to the fact that excess weight which is inconvenient and embarrassing in our thirties turns into arthritis, joint replacements, high blood pressure, strokes, immobility, heart attack, etc etc and the list goes on.
You are at a point where you can make so much more of difference now, and have a much longer, healthier, happier life. You will be more able to travel, enjoy family and social activities and become more present and involved in the world around you. At some point, the excess weight that is inconvenient can turn you into a shut-in as I am now, due to a stroke brought on by high blood pressure brought on by excess weight brought on by lack of control over my stomach's desire to hijack my brain.
If I can encourage you to do anything, it would be to find a private moment alone with your thoughts and without distraction. You are grown and no doubt smart and capable in many ways. Take on the devil on your shoulder and you be the one in control of your health and your future by being in control of you dietary choices, against all odds.
How would you encourage someone else who is two weeks behind you in this journey? This is one time in your life where you MUST NOT get tired of being strong. You deserve to be healthy and happy and active, but good health will not come knocking on your door. You are going to have to chase it down and put your name on it.
Please don't think of the pre-op liquid phase as a burden to bear. It is a right of passage and will be over in a few days. After you have your surgery, you will learn by doing and become quite adept at making smart choices and weighing and measuring and tracking. You can look forward to becoming a champion at this, well able to encourage others with confidence.
I cannot believe that come Christmas, I will pass my first year since my sleeve surgery. There were rough spots to be sure, and times when I thought I am not losing fast enough, but the scale keeps going downward, and I will take that as a good thing. Keep your chin up and trust in yourself to do a great job at this. You can always come here for encouragement when you are having a dark day.

Last night I decided to try putting my nectar Protein in the blender with ice and Water. I liked it much better but it was very frothy. This morning I put 8 oz of water and about 6 ice cubes in the blender and crushed the ice. Then I put the nectar protein in my shaker bottle, poured the ice water in with it and shook it up. Makes it nice and cold! Kind of like a slushy.
