Hey there! Sorry for the delayed reply....I didnt see my notification until now!!! After a litttle back and forth with the insurance, I am finally schedule for surgery for October 8th. My last appointment with Bill was early May. I started researching and buying different protein shakes and need to go look at vitamins. I am also working to get my butt going on working out!!! How is the process going for everyone else?

Oh no!!!! My gosh how frustrating!!!! I'm so sorry!!!! You can totally still get it in this year though. I bet the month you have been waiting for approval could be counted as one of your supervised diet months. Insurance is so weird!!!! I got a call a little over a week ago from the office saying my insurance rejected mine because I needed to have a psych. eval.....but I had it almost 3 months ago now!!!! I don't know why they would even submit to my insurance without including that. They obviously knew my insurance would require it or they wouldn't have made me do it! I don't know if they have even resubmitted to the insurance yet or not. Is it horrible that I don't even care?!? I guess since I am not seeing some sort of doctor every couple weeks to satisfy the insurance requirements any more it's just not in the forefront of my mind. Good luck with the supervised diet!!!! I am planning to get back to the south beach diet after the weekend....of course, I say that almost every weekend!

No! I actually called the office Friday because it had been a month since I saw Bill. When I saw him he said it would take a couple weeks for insurance and that I should be having surgery about 6 weeks from that last appointment. Well, when I called the office, they hadn't even submitted my paperwork to the insurance. She was super nice and explained that she only does insurance submittals on Wednesdays and that she was simply working her way through the list and that mine should be submitted this week. I must admit that my confidence in the office is a bit shaken. I have never had a surgery so this is very scary! I think Dr. Korn is great and the office seems great but I am a bit frustrated will the PA, Bill. I asked him twice for a referral for a primary care doc and never got it....then the completely terrible info on the surgery scheduling....it's not a big deal....it just makes me not very trusting of him!!!! I am sick of putting all my summer plans on hold so I decided I'm not going to have it until early fall. It probably won't be scheduled until then anyway!!!! How about you? Any word? How are things???

Hey Amysosilly! I am exactly where you are at! I am seeing Dr. Korn and have done all the hoops. I had my last appointment for my supervised diet a couple weeks ago and saw the nutritionist a week ago. I am just waiting to hear back on insurance! When I saw Bill (Dr. Korn's PA) he said it would take 4 to 6 weeks fom my last appointment with him until my surgery date. I am getting really ancy because I thought I would have heard from insurance by now....I guess I will just have to be patient!!! Let me know when you get your surgery date....we might end up at the same time!

Ramble away!!!! I do the same thing! Who cares if Thanksgiving seems like a weird time. If it works for you and your partner then that is all that matters! I think it is smart! Especially if it helps you focus on positive stuff, like kicking of an awesome, healthier life! Family can be hard....reeeeeally hard! I have a lot of friends that have become my family.....family we choose for ourselves! How exciting to get the process started. How far out are your seminar and appointment?

Good for you! Exciting!!! I am in Boise. I started the whole process by going to a seminar at St. Lukes. I didn't know anything about the Bariatric center or doctors going in, but I found out they are a Center for Excellence which is a big deal I guess! The seminar was great....I learned sooo much! And it was nice to hear the facts and numbers from a real doctor and a real program instead of from the internet. Dr. Korn did my seminar and I limed him a lot and chose him for the surgery. And I hear ya about telling people. I told 2 coworkers that I was having lunch with one day....one more slender and athletic and one about my size. I actually got flak from the larger coworker and she told me we just needed to get together to ride bikes instead of having surgery! But then on the flip side, the other girl is over the top supportive! Anyway! Happy to hear that things are moving along for you!!!!

Hey! I am guessing from your use name you may be in Idaho? So am I! The 6 month thing is what many insurance companies require. They want you to follow a medically supervised diet for 6 months. Mine is 3 months. I didn't know what to expect for that and was devastated when I went in for my month 1 appointment and had not lost any weight. It sounds like different insurances are looking for different things. I think some want zero weight gain and others want a few pounds lost....I think they basically want to make sure that you can follow doctors orders. My doctor explained to me that yes they would love to see weight loss during the diet because it makes you healthier for surgery, but as long as I didn't a lot of weight, I would be fine. My doc has been more focused on using the diet and time to really prepare me for surgery.....getting a support system in place, learning about food choices, exercising EVERY day for 30 minutes, even if it is a light walk. It seems like such a long time at first but it goes by very quickly :-)

    Protein help!

I keep forgetting about PB3! Where do you buy it at? A couple people have told me about it.

    Protein help!

I am right there with you! I am sooo picky. The only one I have found that I like is Muscle Milk. But, it has to be blended with water and ice and I use about 1 1/2 times the liquid they say. It is decent like this. But if I add some sugar free chunky peanut butter, its awesome!

I have been seeing Dr. Korn. I really like him so far. They seem like they have a great practice. 3 more weeks and then everything gets sent to the insurance company. How has everything been going since surgery for you and your sister? Do you go to any of the support groups? I have been wanting to but I keep having scheduling conflicts!

I will be having mine at St. Lukes if it all gets approved....about another month before everything gets submitted to the insurance. I have been wanting to go the the support group but keep having scheduling conflicts for the one in Meridian. I think I am going to have to check out one of these others. We are new to town and knew no one before moving here, so I need all the support I can dig up!
