    OOH! A new forum!

Hi everyone, my name is Cherie, I am 43 and new to this....I was just approved for surgery pending 10 more lbs. I have to lose first. I am having such a hard time losing that, and it is very frustrating....any suggestions anyone to take that last 10 lbs off, in less than a month, my surgery is pending on Feb. 25th. Looking forward to conversing with you all more. thanks
  3. I am having my first consultation tomorrow with Dr. David Geller of Louisville, KY and I was wondering if anyone has used him before or heard anything about this doctor. I have asked around the hospital and heard good things but no one that has had the surgery. Also I am traveling from Indiana to have this surgery, for anyone who travels 2 or 3 hours, how hard of follow-up care is this? Appreciate any and all info. Thanks.
  4. I am going to be banded in Louisville, KY, but want to try to keep my aftercare closer to home in case of problems. Does anyone know anyone closer to this area that can do this. I have checked with my family doctor and he doesn't, I am meeting with my lap-band doctor the 23rd of June, and will be asking him this as well. Just wanted some input about traveling for after-care. Thanks.
  5. Thanks Lu Ann, let me know how everything goes for you, I hope well. I just got off the phone with my insurance company and it sounds as if I can be approved, if I meet all the requirements, what's not to meet, they just approved this procedure 3 months ago for their approval. So MAYBE things are looking up. Keep me posted!
  6. Hello all, my name is Cherie. I have posted questions here before, but that is as far as I've ever went until now. I am a 41 year old mother of 3 beautiful daughters. They are the reason I am going to have the lap-band surgery, well them and myself. But it wasn't until recently that I realized all the things I cannot do or am self-conconsious about doing. Such as riding rides in amusement parks (weight restrictions), water parks, even chairs creeking when I sit in them, but most important to me, I have no lap for my youngest to sit on. So I took the first step and I am seeing the doctor for my initial consultation on June 30th. I am soooo excited. Anyway I would really appreciate any and all information, tips and so on to make this as smooth journey as possible. So again, Hello to all and I look forward to chatting with you. Thanks Cherie.
  7. Thanks Lu Ann, let me know how it goes at the doctor. I just got off the phone with my insurance company and it sounds as if all will go through. I meet all the requirements and my insurance company just approved the lap-band procedure 3 months ago. So MAYBE everything will go through smoothly, 24 days til consultation and counting. Good luck on yours.
  8. Thank you everyone so being so kind. I am looking forward to moving this thing along as quickly as possible. I now weigh 235 lb., gosh I've never told anyone that before, and my goal weight is 150 or whatever makes me more comfortable. Once I reached 200 it was like I couldn't stop then. I am already over 200 so what difference does it make. I know all the mistakes that I made, but that doesn't make the weight go away. Anway that is all behind me soon, I hope, I haven't met with the doctors or my insurance hasn't approved yet, so I better not count my chickens yet. But hopefully all will go well.
  9. Hi, I am a 41 year old female, and I am trying to decide on having this surgery. My mother had gastric bypass surgery. I seen the recovery time involved, which I do not have that amount of time available. I work full time, my girls are very active, so down time is a big factor. I am 5'4 and weigh 232 lbs., I know that I have to do something, dieting has never worked, walking has not helped so now I am talking to my doctor about other options. I would really like some input from others that have been through the lap-band surgery. I am leaning that direction verses the gastric bypass, but am concerned about never eating certain foods again. The thought of throwing up often, is not pleasing either. Also I am one that likes a glass of wine, now and then, can you ever drink again? I know that isn't as important, but it is a total life changing experience, would like more information, from ones that have been through this. Thank you.

    Hoosier (Indiana) Banders Need Help

Hi, I am from Evansville, IN and I'm looking into having the lap-band done. I have been talking to my family physician. I have not found a doctor yet that I feel comfortable with. Any suggestions anyone???? Also, what about healing time, from the ones that have had this done. How long before they felt up to going back to work or normal activities?
  11. It's me again, I have more questions. Is there a guideline to go by as far as losing. Do you normally lose say 2, 3, or 5 lbs. per week. Is there some kind of regularity? How often do you have a get a fill? Does that hurt? What about after surgery, how long was everyone down before returning to regular activities? Pain, how bad? Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for the anwers I am receiving. It's as if you all are 1 big family. I see my doctor today to get the process started, can anyone give me an idea of how long this usually takes, before the actual surgery? Thanks again. Oh, and by the way, would like to clariy. I am only drink once every 2 or 3 months. But I didn't know if I could even ever do that again. Thanks for answering.
  13. I am just beginning this research process, would like any and all help. I live in the Evansville, IN area and would be willing to travel to IL, KY or TN. Which ever would be better. Any suggestions?? Thanks. Cherie
