I got my approval last Friday morning and got scheduled for October 21st. I have so many emotions, happy, nervous, excited, all of it. Now that I have a date it is getting more and more real. I have to do a two week liquid diet, that's going to be tough.

I'm Oct 21st! I have my endoscopy Sept 18th, final class & labs on Oct 9th and start my liquid diet on Oct 7th. That is what I'm more worried about but I think it'll be okay. It'll be worth it in the end!

I dunno...don't remember. And THAT is the important point. I went from super morbidly obese to a normal weight and the details no longer matter. Not trying to downplay your concerns but rather offering you the long range view... we all move at a different pace..our own journey. The details are important at the time but the long view is..jus keep working that sleeve and you will get there!

I had to do some basic info, nutrition, and exercise classes on top of my visits with my regular doctor. I liked it all though, makes me feel very prepared

Thank you everyone! My husband and I were so excited, we were like kids at Christmas! Now that I have a date I see light at the end of my tunnel. I started the process in Jan 2013 but after a couple months we realized it was going to be too expensive for our family. Fast forward a year, new job w/better insurance and here we are. The wait has made me better prepared I think though! Can't wait to make my "Sleeved!" post

Aaahhh! So, I finally did my last labs (that my insurance required) on Tuesday and my surgeon's office called yesterday morning to tell me they had my approval! I can't believe it went so quickly. Great way to start my family's vacation I still have a few things to do before surgery (scope, one more class and a couple more labs) but it'll be here before you know it. My date is October 21st. (I have BC/BS Blue Choice of Iowa)

Well, Aug 19th was my one year surgeversary. My body has been taking me on new adventures. A few weeks ago I went to Colorado with some friends. This was my first real test since surgery last year. Coming from Louisiana and an altitude of roughly 200 feet above sea level, I made it to about 12,300 feet above sea level before the altitude just got to be to much for me. Physically though, I felt awesome! Knees felt great, heart felt good, everything was great! Only problem was my lungs at that altitude. Last year, I would not have made it half as far as I did. Dang lungs just couldn't handle it...lol Thats ok, gonna try again next year and hopefully have more time before the hike to acclimate to the altitude. I was upset to stop before making it to the top of Mt Elbert but once I realized how far I had gone compared to where I was last year, I was extremely pleased with myself and felt great about what I had accomplished. I am headed to Arkansas next month with my wife to do some hiking in the Ouachita Mtns. Can't wait!!
Here are some pics from Mt. Elbert in Colorado. I WILL make it to the top next time!.

I didn't tell coworkers but then again I don't sit with my immediate peers either. My time off was for a "procedure to help my back". And then when the weight started coming off I explained that I had been told to lose weight (to help the back) and started well before the surgery. And how I'm seeing a nutritionist etc. Everyone just wanted to talk about diet when they realized it was working, so that was easy and fun. I just told them what I'd learned in the process. It's all about the calories that get by the teeth!
i was also taking breaks to walk around the building and stuff, so people knew I was "doing stuff" to lose weight before they saw it happening.
    Good luck!

I am new to this site so I was looking for others from Iowa, I am just starting the process, I will be starting my 6 month supervised Diet and Exercise counseling this afternoon as required by my insurance. My surgeon will be Dr. Smolik, I am doing my counseling through the Mercy weight loss and nutrition center. I am very anxious to get things moving and really getting started in my weight loss journey.

FireWife678 reacted to Amy373 in Ladies: How much loss 1st week?
Isn't the amount one loses based on how much they have to lose? So one person who weighs 360 will more likely lose more than someone who weighs 220! I think percentages should be used to compare.

So not telling the world my personal business is why I have failed at my WLS??!?!? Darnitall! Why didn't someone tell me that a year ago when I had my surgery done?? I guess it's time to start spreading the news because having only lost 111 pounds so far, I'm clearly doing something wrong.

These lists are exactly right!! I have a couple I'd like to add:
--I won't miss the awkwardness that is me climbing on the back of my husband's motorcycle- or the looks I'm sure we get when we are out for a ride. Thankfully my husband doesn't care at all <3
    --Being the slowest walker in my break-time walking group;
--Being asked by small children about the "baby in my belly" even though I'm big, not at all pregnant looking :-/
--Feeling like I want to shower every 8-10 hours all summer
--The embarrassment of getting anything to eat but a salad in the cafeteria at work (I hate salad!!)
--People's "concern" over my health even though I am crazy healthy. I'm just fat. (I NEVER use the F-word!!)
I'm sure there's more things that I won't miss or that we all will not miss. But I think these things will be great motivation for all of us before and after surgery. Can't wait for my date, probably in the fall. )

In a heartbeat! Best decision of my life. Almost 80 pounds gone. Lost weight allowed me to find a lump in my breast. Stage 2 cancer. I wouldn't have found it so soon had I not lost the weight. The sleeve saved my life.
